to think that people claiming that BNP voters aren't racists are being disingenuous?

I don't get the argument "that these people aren't racist, but they vote just BNP".

For me, If you vote BNP, you are a racist. I know this is guilt by association but I think it's fair. What's more, making excuses for those who choose to support these hatemongers makes it more acceptable for them to do so.

I know I wouldn't vote for a party when I didn't know their policies and if I did, I'd feel pretty ashamed that I voted without bothering to find out. To be honest, anyone who votes for the BNP and claims that didn't realise they'd just cosied up to facists needs to give up voting for good.

OK DP, so if they are a legal political party and totally above board, why was there such a furore when the list of their members was published on the internet?
Why was their "secret" HQ in Burnley secret in the first place?
If they are legit, why hide, why be so ashamed?

Lizzylou · 29/10/2009 18:28

No, the BNP are not rascists at all

daftpunk · 29/10/2009 18:30

BIWI...of course i'm not suggesting that...i was speaking generally...

the fact is, alot of white people do feel like second class citizens... they are sick of seeing positive discrimination going on, are they not allowed to speak out about their frustrations..?

should they just shut up and put up with it...?

daftpunk · 29/10/2009 18:32

lizzy...you can post as many links as you like...politicians have seen them all.....they are still a legal party..

that is a fact.

filthymindedvixen · 29/10/2009 18:35

''quite a few posters have told me they will no longer talk to me, and don't want anymore to do with me....i think that shows a lack of maturity and ignorance on their part, as the only way anything gets resolved is though talking and understanding...

i would never stop talking to anyone.....it's a shame it doesn't work both ways....''

Really? you would never threaten another poster with this if she did something you didn't like?

Short memory.

electra · 29/10/2009 18:36

What is positive discrimination? Examples please, backed up with evidence.

I think this buzz phrase is propaganda.

daftpunk · 29/10/2009 18:37

what are you talking about..?

daftpunk · 29/10/2009 18:39

it's ok vixen...think i know..

moldies.?

i meant stop talking about something important...

GrimmaTheNome · 29/10/2009 18:49

DP, have you looked at what LizzyLou just linked to? I was going to link it myself
well why not. Its a current thread of the sort of shit an MNer had to face on her own doorstep.

bodycolder · 29/10/2009 18:51

electra if you get a sensible coherent answer to that I'll eat my witches hat.You are too smart for this although I too can become a bit of a dog with a bone in this issue

daftpunk · 29/10/2009 18:57

electra; i don't have to back anything up.....6% of voters have done it for me....

oh..and vixen....i've grown up alot since last december....time you moved on aswell

BecauseImWorthIt · 29/10/2009 19:04

Nobody is saying people shouldn't be allowed to complain about discrimination of any kind.

But why do you have to do it by joining a party that is racist? By voting for them you are aligning yourself with their views.

You can't just pick and choose the bits that you want.

bodycolder · 29/10/2009 19:06

BIWI spot on you can object to many aspects of how this country is run without going all out and alienating and insulting a whole section of society based solely on race and cultural differences

electra · 29/10/2009 19:07

daftpunk - no you don't have to back it up, so in that case I will draw my own conclusion - that it's likely a load of bollocks, otherwise you would.

bodycolder - yes you are right, I have spent waaay too much time on this - 'dog with a bone' just about sums me up!

bodycolder · 29/10/2009 19:09

When you are passionate about something and well read and educated on the subject the fun is in the backing it up otherwise debate and discussion would die!

daftpunk · 29/10/2009 19:09

BIWI.....can you tell me why such a racist party is legal...?

i don't understand that bit...

help me out

fmv · 29/10/2009 19:20

oh yes baby, look at you now, all grown up....

Lizzylou · 29/10/2009 19:27

Look at the link, DP. It is from an MN thread.
A young Mother getting abused by a BNP supporter on her own doorstep as her baby is mixed race.
My SIL is white, her baby is mixed race, she is pg again. I would HATE to think some narrowminded bigot could do the same to her.

daftpunk · 29/10/2009 19:29

ok..lizzy...i'll read the link.

I thought you'd gone from this thread Daftpunk Do you really think you have anything else to add? Going from one nonsense comment to another - they're not racist, they are legal. Is that the best defence you can come up with? And for the record, they are not currently legal. Their membership policy has been found to be breaking the law and they've been forced to change it (kicking and screaming)

I will happily, did you use the term "harass", I will use "challenge" you on here (obv with debate only) everytime I see you post about morals and politics. I know what the BNP stand for, as I think you do and I also know what their views translate as in RL. Like most nazis I've come across - got the backbone of a jellyfish.

daftpunk · 29/10/2009 19:42

you are entitled to your opinion MM.....just like i'm entitled to mine....

why it's good living in a democracy that allows freedom of speech....

daftpunk · 29/10/2009 19:45

think it's taking things abit far calling me a Nazi though....

BoysAreLikeDogs · 29/10/2009 19:46

monkeysmama when you say you are going to harrass or challenge DP 'here' do you mean on this thread or on MN as a whole?

scarletlilybug · 29/10/2009 19:46

I think all the confusion about the legality (or otherwise) has come about because of a new law (The Equality Bill), making its current membership criteria illegal. The BNP finally agreed to hold an AGM to change its consitution to change its membership criteria and said it will not accept new members in the meantime. London County Court accepted this undertaking. If there were to be a General Election next week, the BNP would be allowed to field candidates.

Some of you may be interested to know that this same bill advocates positive discrimination in favour of women and ethnic minorities.
