To HATE those fecking "My heart belongs to Grandma" t-shirts?

I love my ILs, I really do. But they arrived this weekend with a t-shirt which says "my heart belongs to grandma" on it for my DS (2). It's going straight in the charity shop bag. Who makes these monstrosities? His heart does not belong to grandma, thank you very much. If it belongs to anyone other than him, it belongs to me, thanks very much!

Jeez. Feel free to add your most hated slogan t-shirts on here too. Feel my pain!

not a fan of the cheap nasty slogan tops, but i like noaddedsugar, dd has a faeries rock one and ds has spit on that tissue and ill call social services and enjoy milk (in coke design) Oh and they have big brother, little sister, i love them!

And i cant believe dora got a mention on here and HSM and hannah montana didnt? havent you seen some of the sylish dresses and skirts you can get?

Lozza70 · 20/10/2009 18:57

I really don't like the boys are 'little monkeys' girls are 'little princesses' ones but some are cute. DS has a great I wanna be a DJ one in black from Future Freak.

laweaselmys · 20/10/2009 18:58

Some of them are awesome. DP loves ThinkGeek and spends ages picking stuff for DD to wear. He also likes creating his own babygros at Weebl's stuff.

I'd much much rather see kids in slogan'd tees than having everything farkin' pink anyway.

What annoys me most is that the cheaper the clothes are the crappier the slogans. Why punish the short of cash?? Tee-shirt making bastards evil dooers.

notnowbernard · 20/10/2009 19:14

Despite my earlier protestations, I did see one a while back which made me chuckle -

'I'm not the Messiah I'm a very naughty boy'

Not sure I'd have parted with cash for it though...

BosomForAPillow · 20/10/2009 19:30

A friend told me she had an "I'm with the M.I.L.F" babygrow. So wrong.

adelicatequestion · 20/10/2009 19:35

I was horrified to see a 9 yr old t shirt when shoping with DD that said

"This bitch bites"

I thought it was horrible and so inappropriate for a 9 yr old.

FishInMyHair · 20/10/2009 19:38

I don't like them but I did take a plain t shirt to a sign place where I got them to print
"I'm going to be a big brother"
on it. We took a picture and emailed it to family and friends to let them know we were expecting dc2.

PeedOffWithNits · 20/10/2009 19:40

worst i ever saw was "when i grow up I want an ASBO" embroidered on a baby bib - complete with stick man sitting collapsed against a lamp post with can of lager in his hand, a black eye and stars spinning round his head. as I walked past the stall, I commented how sad it was and the lady who makes them said "yes, i was asked to make one to order and now they are one of our biggest sellers"

who the hell buys that crap??

Wigeon · 20/10/2009 19:41

Cannot bear slogans which are apparently just for girls or just for boys.

Hate hate hate the ones which are for girls and are pink / I'm a little princess / too cute / I'm a fluffy bunny and the boys ones which are blue and say I'm so messy / I want to drive a big truck / I'm a little monster. Current hate is focussed towards the bibs in Sainsburys with these messages on them. GIRLS CAN DRIVE TRUCKS! And my girl is certainly messy and sometimes a little monster. Never a fluffy bunny. Or a princess.

DH says the pink ones might as well say I'm a little prostitue and the blue ones say I'm a little thug.

Don't get me started on all the other gender-stereotyping I've come across (by companies) since having a little girl . The subject of numerous other threads here I'm sure.

PeedOffWithNits · 20/10/2009 19:43

I've said it before on MN and I will say it again, i will not buy anything that requires people to read a slogan emblazoned across my DDs' backsides (they are 7 and 9)

utterly vile

ProfessorLaytonIsMyZombieSlave · 20/10/2009 19:43

In general I dislike them, but I do have a soft spot for "I void warranties" from thinkgeek.

Wigeon · 20/10/2009 19:45

Just to be clear, the was about the gender-stereotyping, not about having a girl! I'm very happy to have a girl !

FromGirders · 20/10/2009 19:50

HeadlessWombat - one of my mindees comes along with a t-shirt which reads:

AB/CD (and underneath) For those about to read .. .

which I have to admit I do rather like.

chegirlknowswhereyoulive · 20/10/2009 19:51

I think they used to be a bit cute. Now they are not. There are too many and they are too steryotypical or just sexual.

I blame the spice girls. My DD was little when they came out and suddenly you couldnt get any girls clothes that didnt say 'girl power' on them. This sentiment seemed to morph into 'I am a bitch' , 'Sexy bitch', 'Spoilt bitch' etc etc.

Boys stuff always seems to go on about what little bastards they are and how they spend their whole time getting dirty and beating people up.

I do admit to getting DD one made up when she was ill which said 'Princess Neutropaenia' which will mean nothing to most of you but a lot to us. She also had a baseball cap with 'LEAVE ME ALONE' on it. (I would never of allowed that normally).

ThePinkOne · 20/10/2009 20:34

I always think the '50% mummy 50% daddy' ones are a bit We know what happened, you don't need to flaunt it!

I was also given a 'probably the cutest baby in the world' t-shirt for DS which I can't bring myself to put him in. He is, of course, but no need to spell it out to the parents of all the other poor babies

andirobobo · 20/10/2009 20:57

I make a point of not buying slogan tops - my DS may be a cheeky monkey but I dont want to advertise it! I love stipey tops and plain tops - but they are getting harder to find.

GreenMonkies · 20/10/2009 21:03

It depends on the slogan.

I hate the "bitch" or "princess" ones, but both my girls have worn Lactivist tops, (this is my absolute favourite) or tops which say appropriate stuff on them.

For us growd-ups we like Truffle Shuffle, I am currently wearing this to death, DP buys them for me, and they often seem to feature female super heroes like Wonder Woman, which I'm sure is how he sees me !

neenz · 20/10/2009 21:22

Most of them are harmless! I don't mind 'cheeky monkey' etc, hate anything with princess on though, and offensive ones - no.

My DS has one that says 'My mummy is yummy'

Someone gave it to us but I confess he has worn it a couple of times

rubytwokids · 20/10/2009 21:44

I was about to post and say that I hate them too, but then I laughed out loud at 'I do all my own stunts' and 'I void warranties,' so clearly I hold double standards!

heatherlh · 20/10/2009 21:52

Agree with lots of the people on her re pretentious princess crap/cheeky monkey boy stuff and anything dodgy/sexual on children is just plain wrong (and shouldn't be allowed IMHO).

Have to confess DD has had some slogan t-shirts, some have gone on eBay (but no one wanted them there either!) but there was one that dear Sainsburys had made a bit of a boo-boo on. It was supposed to say "Daddy's little star!" on it, with all the letters in different colours, however the "s" in star was a pale brown colour and the "!" kind of ornate and from a distance it looked like it said "Daddy's little tart". Hastily added to charity shop bag...

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 20/10/2009 21:52

I think some are awful, but some are funny.
I have always loved the "Spit on that tissue one more time and I'm calling Social Services" one.
When on holiday, I saw a shirt stating "aren't you glad I'm not your kid" which although I would not have purchased, I did giggle what with DD going through a really stroppy tantrum phase!

5inthetomb · 20/10/2009 22:02

DS2 has a Mr Men Tshirt saying "My dad is Mr Grumpy" and DH has one saying "Mr Grumpy". I think its quite cute. Wouldn't buy ones with naughty/cheeky/mischief on for my ds's though.

DS2 has ASD, and although I probably wouldn't buy it, there is a Tshirt you can buy fro the NAS that says "Autistic by day, deadly ninja by night". .

DragonMamiCooksPotatoes · 20/10/2009 22:03

Sorry - been out all evening. Hooters is a chain of American bars which are staffed entirely by young women with large chests. (Don't google it if you're at work - that way disciplinary action lies...) I'm not sure if they're actually topless or not (think possibly not) but the point remains that it's not what I see as a future career for my daughter.

Why anyone would think a t-shirt advertising a soft-porn venue is appropriate for a baby is beyond me. Hence the t-shirt burning.

overmydeadbody · 20/10/2009 22:08

I want this t-shirt for DS.

overmydeadbody · 20/10/2009 22:10

I did laugh at "I am not the messiah, I'm a vey naughty boy"

DS doesn't have a single slogan t-shirt, not even anything with the shop name across the fornt (Next are the worst for this but I don;t shop in next ever ever ever as I hate it)
