To HATE those fecking "My heart belongs to Grandma" t-shirts?

I love my ILs, I really do. But they arrived this weekend with a t-shirt which says "my heart belongs to grandma" on it for my DS (2). It's going straight in the charity shop bag. Who makes these monstrosities? His heart does not belong to grandma, thank you very much. If it belongs to anyone other than him, it belongs to me, thanks very much!

Jeez. Feel free to add your most hated slogan t-shirts on here too. Feel my pain!

i am a bit contrary about this issue as i really detest some t shirts, especially ones with sexual connotations for tweenies, teenies or mothers actually come to think about it...BUT i had a fab one for my DS when he was about 2 which was khaki with a mod style target on it with Granny Magnet underneath.....

BornToFolk · 20/10/2009 16:22

MrsBaldwin, go to H&M for plain baby's t-shirts. Loads of colours and really cheap. Only go up to 12-18months though. For older kids, M&S do a pack of 4 plain coloured long sleeved t-shirts with different coloured arms for £10.

I kind of like that "Santa doesn't exist" one. I don't think it's cruel.

DS once had a t-shirt (also from H&M) that said "Still living with my parents" that I loved. I hate the "cheeky monkey"/"little princess" crap though.

lisianthus · 20/10/2009 16:22

Morloth- I love Thinkgeek! I am on the verge of buying DD one of their black "Self Rescuing Princess" shirts. I like that message much more than the pink sparkly-type stuff.

OP - YANBU when it comes to some of the ones described on here though. That shaken baby one = urk.

When I have kids they'll be wearing AC/DC t-shirts asap. Not because it's trendy but because I love the band so much.

Some slogans aren't utterly revolting. But the ones referring to family members are grim. M&Co are the worst for them. You look through their stock and spot something in a nice colour, then pull it out only to discover it says 'Daddy's Little Puke Machine' or whatever.

Think someone bought DS one that said 'Here comes Trouble' or something similar, I wasn't fond of the idea that boys = trouble or monsters and girls = princess or fairy.

TheHeadlessWombat · 20/10/2009 16:37

LOL. No he had bad taste in clothing so I wouldn't either. The western look is so last year.

Seriously though we all dress our kids to our own tastes and preferences so I don't see the big deal in my baby/toddler wearing an AC/DC t-shirt.
Besides my first son will be named for an AC/DC member.

I'd rather have them wearing an AC/DC t-shirt than the tantrum t-shirt mentioned above or anything similar.

marenmj · 20/10/2009 16:39

DH has Ramones bodysuits for DD. What does she care? If it gets him excited to get her up and dressed that's all that matters. He's also trying to get her to like ska. More power I say. The Nine Inch Nails indoctrination can wait

I only draw the line at the teenage-hooker-in-training.

marenmj · 20/10/2009 16:42

oh, and fyi - the shaken baby one is from a company called tshirt hell. They specialise in offensive tshirts (a couple about rape come to mind).

They thrive on the attention.

Shellseeker · 20/10/2009 16:47

DD had a t-shirt which said "Don't come too close...I've just done a poo!"
I only put her in it a couple of times 'cos I did think it was quite funny but nobody else did, so then it went in the charity shop bag!

TheHeadlessWombat · 20/10/2009 16:50

Ramones bodysuits? Very cool.

mrsbaldwin · 20/10/2009 16:51

BornToFolk - H&M - aha! That's about the one shop I haven't been to.

TheHeadlessWombat - ACDC t-shirts. Now this is a whole new ballgame to the main debate. My DH said he fancied getting baby DS an ACDC T-shirt.

Despite DS looking something approximate to a Rubens cherub atm, blonde hair, blue eyes, the lot and so in my private opinion gonna look crap in a black outfit, I had a surf about to see what was out there.

I couldn't find anything I thought was halfway decent tho. ACDC didn't seem to have official merchandise that went as small as a babygro. There was some other stuff on a website called BabyPunk or somesuch but I didn't like that much - thought it looked cheap and nasty, much like the slogan T-shirts of the main issue here!! (maybe this is the point of being a punk - I know ...)

So perhaps what I am saying is ACDC need to get some organic pupa fleece T-shirts done - and then we can all buy them

TheHeadlessWombat · 20/10/2009 16:53

Well if I find anything suitable MrsBaldwin I'll let you know.

Bleh · 20/10/2009 16:59

I find the "party, my cot 2am" and "mine is a bottle of the house white" a bit annoying, but that's just me. When DB was a teenager he had an
I'm with Stupid
=====>
t shirt, which we all found endlessly amusing.

sunchild77 · 20/10/2009 17:06

I hate slogan T-shirts and ones with 'characters' on Dora the fecking explorer annoys me the most.

Did have a bib with "HugsDealer" written on it once though, thought that was just about acceptable..

coolma · 20/10/2009 17:45

Particularly unpleasant are the baby football outfits. I would quite seriously have left dh had he gone through with his threat to buy mini leicester outfits for our two when they were first born. I will admit howeverm that I had a t- shirt made for myself which read 'Do You Know Who I Am?' hee hee.

Longtalljosie · 20/10/2009 17:56

YANBU generally - but I do have one I was given, which I love - and baby DD is wearing today... it says "I do all my own stunts".

And it's true, she does

WUGYouLETMeBiteYourNeck · 20/10/2009 18:00

Agree with most but will join the "but my choice is OK" chorus with DDs babygro
"no-one puts baby in a corner"

shockers · 20/10/2009 18:03

I really don't like slogan t-shirts for children, esp ones that are brattish or say little devil etc.
Someone once bought me one with "Who are these kids and why are they calling me Mum" on it. It did make me chuckle at the time but I never wore it.
My mum bought one for my daughter in a sale was organic cotton) it had "Undercover Genius" on it. Dd has SEN and it didn't feel very appropriate.
I do LOVE the Bob Dylan babygro though!!

nzshar · 20/10/2009 18:07

Have to admit to buying one for ds when he was little (about 5 years ago) that said "spit on that tissue and I'm calling social services". Made me laugh so much as its what my mother used to do all the time to wipe our faces right up till the age of about 12 and I hated it. Had a good giggle with mum about it. Though must say hate hate hate the messy/naughty/trouble boy ones.

evansmummy · 20/10/2009 18:16

Saw a babygro on a website that said "MuthaSucka" on it. Thought it was quite funny but would never dare put my child in it!

oldraver · 20/10/2009 18:27

I think the Muthasucka, in the style of The Godfather is from FutureFreak. I was looking to replace DS's Future DJ shirt but its been discomtinued

grownupbabes · 20/10/2009 18:38

Hate them all but... when I used to be quite broke so and was grateful for clothes...
I just put them on the DC inside out The DC were too young to notice.

YanknHeadsOffCocks · 20/10/2009 18:45

Hate most of the slogan stuff, particularly those for boys that say 'I'm a little shithead' or similar sentiments.

But before he was born, we got DS a vest that says 'I listen to Led Zeppelin with my daddy'. DH was playing Kashmir to him in utero, so it was very appropriate. They're actually singing together as I type (well, DH is singing, and 8 week old DS is cooing).
