To HATE those fecking "My heart belongs to Grandma" t-shirts?

I love my ILs, I really do. But they arrived this weekend with a t-shirt which says "my heart belongs to grandma" on it for my DS (2). It's going straight in the charity shop bag. Who makes these monstrosities? His heart does not belong to grandma, thank you very much. If it belongs to anyone other than him, it belongs to me, thanks very much!

Jeez. Feel free to add your most hated slogan t-shirts on here too. Feel my pain!

I love these sorts of things. Have a babygro that says 'Ooops, I've crapped my pants' on it and it's by far my favourite.

Anything twee is horrid but love some of the ones I have read on here!

StableButBeheaded · 23/10/2009 00:47

I'm afraid I went through a phase of loving these when I was expecting & when DS was a baby. Probably induced by the excitement of finally conceiving a much-longed for baby. I had the 'Santa Doesn't Exist' one, but only used it once then decided it might prompt awkward questions from older kids, so that was the end of that.

Someone earlier in the thread asked where to buy it: Nappyhead. They are the company that did Davina McCall's famous 'Big Mutha' maternity top that she wore for BB

We also had the 'sleep is for the weak' tee shirt which usually drew questions on where to buy it.

I'm not so keen nowadays & actively hate any referring to sex/prinessses/bitches/princes/little monsters/yummy mummies/attitude. Tend to still like No Added Sugar though and Twisted Twee. I like Twisted Twee's Wheel of Fortune. Go To Bed, Go To Bed...

Only ones DS has now is a Snuglo top that says 'Uber Cool' in big letters, and one by Australian brand Well Spotted that says 'Good Boy' then underneath in really small letters 'terms and conditions apply'

StableButBeheaded · 23/10/2009 00:52

I also like Well Spotted's 'Your Jedi Mind Tricks Won't Work On Me'

WormsMinedMyCadaver · 23/10/2009 07:53

We received a 'locally grown' babygro and a 'give peas a chance' one which were acceptable - well that is to say we passed them on to someone else. But the 'I may be little, but I'm THE BOSS' t shirt went straight to charity shop without passing over either of my children's bodies first!

It's a bit like those bloody car stickers with 'baby on board/bitch on board/knackered parent on board' etc. You either love them or want to ram the car hate them.

Fillyjonk · 23/10/2009 09:01

No point trying to justify yourselves

They are all tasteless and vile

so.

CoffeeMum · 23/10/2009 10:17

Zoonose, thank you very much for bringing up that point about that Lactivist t-shirt. I didn't have the energy to make the point at the time, and I don't want to get off thread and onto the bf-ing debate. I would say exactly the same, as one who was unable to breastfeed [for anyone who doesn't believe it...trust me, it's true]

I'm gutted enough every time I see a mother breastfeeding their baby, I don't need to see that baby also wearing a t-shirt that simultaneously a) states a sentiment i agree with 100% anyway [breast is best], and b] makes me feel shitter than I already do about not being able to provide it for my own baby.

Thank you

A few months ago I was thinking of selling a few slogan tshirts casually. I want to CAT people about the sort of thing they'd like/wouldn't like. If you don't mind me getting in touch with you please can you say so on here

nappyaddict · 23/10/2009 12:31

zoonoose and coffeemum do you also hate the "I love mummy milk" one?

nappyaddict · 23/10/2009 12:31

Or what about "I love norks"

CoffeeMum · 23/10/2009 12:39

Nappy addict - it's less about me hating that t-shirt, more that it just upsets me really. But hey, i'm a big girl, i can take it! And I suppose it's one way to put across the 'breast is best' message, which i do absolutely subscribe to.

I find 'I love mummy milk' and 'i love norks' fine actually - much gentler than the 'from any old cow' slogan. First is sweet, second is quite funny. Still positive about BF-ing...but without the harshness that I perceive in the 'from any old cow' one.

nappyaddict · 23/10/2009 12:44

So you would find a tshirt with breast is best on ok?

I agree the any old cow one is a bit blunt and harsh sounding.

CoffeeMum · 23/10/2009 12:49

Yes - do it in a larger size, and i might get it for my DH

No seriously...i think 'i love mummy milk', 'i love norks' and 'breast is best' are all fine. Yes, i'd feel a bit of a twinge when i saw them on a cute little baby, but hey, i get that anyway whenever i see anyone bf-ing, and it's not like i'd dream of wanting people to hide that.

MamaLazarou · 23/10/2009 13:47

No, I wouldn't let the baby go naked. I just believe that band t-shirts should just be worn by people who actually like the band. I wouldn't wear a Cliff Richard t-shirt just because my mum likes him.

ScreamingMormolykeia · 23/10/2009 14:30

Admit it MamaLazarou you like Cliff, it's not your mum at all, it is???? Mwah ha ha ha ha haaaa!!!!!

Sorry.

I love the "any old cow" tshirt, and the one that goes

BRE
AST
FED

I think most of her tshirts are very clever.

Might look for the Jedi Mind Tricks one, does it come in adult sizes....?

ScreamingMormolykeia · 23/10/2009 14:31

(DD2 has the "Still Breastfeeding and Proud of it" When asked what it says she will tell you "I has booby from my mummy!" she's three, awww!)

LetThereBeRock · 23/10/2009 14:32

No sane person would wear a Cliff Richard t-shirt,not voluntarily.

MonstrousMerryHenry · 23/10/2009 15:22

LetThereBeRock. I am shocked by your anti-Cliff vitriol. You, a rock fan and all. Shame on you. The man is rock n roll in slacks. A sex god in comfortable shoes. Irresistible.

LetThereBeRock · 23/10/2009 15:25

LMAO.

You're right.I should be ashamed of myself. I have seen the error of my ways and am off to buy the Cliff calendar now. Hopefully there'll be a nice topless pic in there for me to drool over.

MonstrousMerryHenry · 23/10/2009 15:30

Ohhhh have you seen those calendars? OMG they are a work of inspired genius. I think I actually collapsed with laughter the first time I saw one.

LetThereBeRock · 23/10/2009 15:37

I have. They're great aren't they? In a 'So bad they're good way'. I particuarly love the string vest.

Who buys them? And why? I'd love to know.

From the 2007 calendar according to Google

Another

The only place I can imagine those going is either in the bin or on my dartboard.

MamaLazarou · 23/10/2009 18:26

I admit it - around the time of Summer Holiday ... I would've let him.

LetThereBeRock · 23/10/2009 19:30

Surely you aren't that desperate? No one is.

PlasticBandit · 23/10/2009 19:46

I'm sorry to report a sighting of this: Playboy bunny logo with "boy toy" printed underneath, on a 6 year old girl. I abandon all hope.

marenmj · 23/10/2009 20:45

re: playboy bunny tee - I was looking for a pic of one of those for the "reasons I hate peta" thread. I knew they existed but couldn't find any which makes me wonder if it's unlicensed merchendise.

PlasticBandit · 23/10/2009 20:59

I am sure it is unlicensed. I certainly hope that no reputable shop/trader would ever sell such demeaning stuff. If I were brave enough, I would ask her Mum where she bought it.
I am not brave. Nuff said.
