To HATE those fecking "My heart belongs to Grandma" t-shirts?

I love my ILs, I really do. But they arrived this weekend with a t-shirt which says "my heart belongs to grandma" on it for my DS (2). It's going straight in the charity shop bag. Who makes these monstrosities? His heart does not belong to grandma, thank you very much. If it belongs to anyone other than him, it belongs to me, thanks very much!

Jeez. Feel free to add your most hated slogan t-shirts on here too. Feel my pain!

'I luv mess...and mess luvs me!'

Although I did like

"Daddy drinks because I cry"

crazylizzy · 20/10/2009 13:21

"All mummy wanted was a blow job"

And yes, it was for real. I've also seen "They shake me"

Disgusting and very poor taste

troutpout · 20/10/2009 13:25

yanbu
I hate all slogan t shirts
I saw a 4 year old boy with a t-shirt that said 'lock up your daughters' on it
Niiiicce

LittleOneMum · 20/10/2009 13:30

Actually, some of these have made me really laugh!

It reminds me of one which DS got when he was born which said 'Mummy's new man' - DH hated it and I haven't seen it around really. Bet he hid it!

Also saw "Be nice, don't forget who chooses your nursing home"

Found that one rather amusing

MamaGoblin · 20/10/2009 13:42

I had one from my SIL (given as a 'joke' ) that said:

(in BIG letters)
I LOVE FAST CARS
(in smaller letters)
Chocolate
(in teeny letters)
and mummy

Nice! He wore it once, it's just gone in the charity shop bag.

(I do covet the one off Amazon that says 'Spit on that tissue one more time and I'm calling Social Services' but I don't think I'd ever dare put DS in it.)

crankytwaaaaaahhhhnky · 20/10/2009 14:05

Ok on the whole, ick.

Although I have a black & red striped punky one from Stardust that has "Pixie" on the front in a Pixies style winged font.
I heart that one, and have just got him some checked trousers to go with it.

There are some kinda funny ones about. Sassy/bratty ones make my toes curl though. And don't get me started on the Playboy Bunny logo.

Morloth · 20/10/2009 14:12

undercoverelephant "Children are not message boards for unfunny cutesy crap."

Shit?!?! Really? That's us screwed then. We just ordered a couple of onsies from thinkgeek.com, along with a "No, I will not fix your computer" t-shirt for DS.

So children are not toys then? Bugger.

lucky1979 · 20/10/2009 14:36

Someone has threatened to buy me one she saw which says "Yo ho ho and a breastful of milk" for my as yet unborn DC which makes me feel squicky and I'm not sure why - and I am planning to breastfeed!

notanumber · 20/10/2009 14:54

Yes, I do agree.

Except....I did see this hilarious babygrow with an image of Bob Dylan on it with the slogan "Time I need a changin'" written underneath.

It made me laugh a lot.

BigusBumus · 20/10/2009 15:05

DS1 had a t-shirt when he was 1yr that had
"I love Remote Controls and Keys" on the front, which was quite funny and cool at the time - it was 2002 and there weren't really any of these slogan tops about then.

We were also given the "Mummys New Man" t-shirt when DS2 was born, which he wore for a couple of weeks, but i always felt a bit weird about him being in it. I don't like slogans at all.

kissyfurschaos · 20/10/2009 15:31

DS had a lovely vest with 'Mummy's Little Prince' on, I loved it but EVERYTIME he wore it his nappy would leak... maybe he was trying to tell me something. It is spick and span now and in his memory box.
Whilst browsing at a carboot sale in a less desirable area there was a stall printing TShirts. Talking to the owner she admitted to printing one for a six month old baby girl with 'Nanny's Little Bitch' across it at the request of a chavvy grandmother

McDie79 · 20/10/2009 15:49

Hmm would'nt actually buy any myself but have dressed DD in the various slogan adorned gifts she got, 'I love Mummy/Daddy' etc

Told my best friend that I hated carachter and slogan t-shirts,so of course she sent me one with a 'my little pony' on it saying 'Daddy I want a pony'
(I actually quite like it now tbh)

MorrisZapp · 20/10/2009 15:55

Must admit I've seen a couple that have made me laugh. 'Can't talk, won't talk' in Next, and 'Granny magnet' in a local shop.

I was in the USA once and went into a shop that sold tiny t-shirts. They all had slogans on them, and things like Swarovski crystals and fake fur trim. The slogans were things like 'I'm the top bitch in this house' and 'spoiled bitch' which had me on the verge of righteous fury, until I realised I was in an upmarket pet shop and the t-shirts were for dogs

Still tacky though.

FaintlyMacabre · 20/10/2009 15:57

I saw one with
'Saw it
Wanted it
Threw a Tantrum
Got it'

On a 4 year old girl. Nice.

MorrisZapp · 20/10/2009 15:58

I saw heaps of them in the US, macabre - actual kid's one I mean!

'If Mom says no ask Grandma' etc.

oldraver · 20/10/2009 15:58

OMG we had inficted on us were bought a Hooters bib and something else. I mean why oh why. It was from my Dad and Mum made such a fuss about it and how she had taken my Dad there and it was everso 'risque'

We also had something similar to the Grandma's heart, a tacky dingy blue thing form the US.I think I cut it up for dishcloths recycled it. I'm dreading what she will bring back next time

The only slogan ones I like for DS is his 'Future DJ' one and the My Mummy likes chocolate but loves me more'

Ronaldinhio · 20/10/2009 15:58

yabu

there is nothing wrong with any free clothing and any fule knows that the child didn't buy and isn't wearing it through choice

get yourself a my heart belongs to mummy t shirt and wear it when the in lawa are around...see if they get the hint

(my mother constantly buts itng shit loads of it and won't listen to reason some days they are like an upsy daisy explosion!)

SmallSCREAMCap · 20/10/2009 16:04

I nearly bought DS a brown babygro that simply said "Handsome." in Helvetica across the front.

Apart from that, I like them on babies about as much as I like them on adults (i.e. I don't).

mrsbaldwin · 20/10/2009 16:05

Slogan T-shirts vile vile.

But there are more with slogans (and stupid pictures) on than not, especially for boys IMO. (One I saw last week for a baby had three animals with the title 'work friends' on it. What does this mean? I'm not sending the baby out to work just yet ...)

Anyway my theory is that this means shops think they can charge more money.

I wanted plain white or coloured long sleeve t-shirts with no adornment whatsoever for size 6-9mo. Could I find any - that weren't made of organic handspun pupa fleece and cost £22.50 each - no, of course not!

LittleOneMum · 20/10/2009 16:09

This has reminded me of a very cruel toddler t-shirt I saw in a catalogue last year. It said something like:

Santa Doesn't Exist
But I can't read
so it doesn't matter

SmallSCREAMCap · 20/10/2009 16:10

It's so true, MrsBaldwin

I just want plain vests and t-shirts for my kids but it's so difficult to find.

Boys clothes tend to have more pointless slogans ("My little car," "Here come the robots," "Dinosaur parade," etc etc), but worse still are the perfectly nice girls' dresses, blouses, jeans and tops which are spoiled by a dollop of sequins and lace or something unironable in one corner.

Often think it's odd how you have to pay more money these days to get something plain with less work on it.

TabithaTwitchet · 20/10/2009 16:18

I hate anything written on my daughter's clothes, particularly dislike cutesy ones like 100% adorable; Daddy says I'm gorgeous just like my mummy; princess in training; Mummy loves me more than chocolate etc.

I also loathe "In case you are wondering, I'm a GIRL!", which we were given as a present. I use it instead of a bib when we are eating something particularly messy

Don't like the bratty ones but at least they are trying to be funny; some seem to just have some vacuous, cutesy words stuck on the front which have involved no thought whatsoever.

chickbean · 20/10/2009 16:19

I spend quite a lot of time removing extra patches from t-shirts and trousers - makes them look a lot more expensive when I've finished (especially as they all fray if you leave them on).
