We went for tea yesterday at Wagamamas.

There was a family behind us, including 2 children - about 2 and 4 maybe.

I looked round after they had left and under the table they had left food, crayons, paper and two empty juice cartons.

I was a bit that they just left without even picking this all up off the floor.

Surely I am NBU?

Is Wagamamas a restaurant?

If so then YABU. I wouldn't get under a table and pick up all the bits of food that children had inevitably dropped. I pay to eat out so I don't have to do the tidying up afterwards.

Did you scrape your plates and wash up afterwards?

oooh i left loads of wrapping paper on the floor, when i had birthday celebrations at wagamama's i shall hang my head in shame but we did recieve really poor service

however would not expect the parents to pick up the food

I might have picked up the crayons, but the other stuff is what happens whwn families eat out.

I would have picked it up. No child should be allowed by their parents to throw juice cartons on the floor - whether they are paying to be there or not.

Blimey maybe I need to lower my standards! I really did not think I was BU.

Hando - no food left to scrape - too yummy! but we certainly cleaned the food off the floor that DD had dropped.

janeite - phew. I agree - you wouldn't let them do it at home, height of bad manners to do it out where someone else has to pick it up.

I often take the dc's (2.10& 1) to Wagamamas and I always pick up the debris they chuck on the floor.

We go there so often the staff are really sweet and always say they don't mind picking it up, especially when it's quiet, but I cannot just leave pile of noodles on the floor and saunter out.

To clarify, it was mess from my DD, not just random mess...

Kids make a mess, and if it's a family restaraunt they'll be used to it. I would've picked up the worst and put it on the table but I imagine the people that work there are used to it.

I've never been to Wagamamas but I'm with the OP. I think it is highly inconsiderate to leave the sort of mess that children make. I always give high chairs a quick once over with baby wipes and pick up any crap that has fallen on the floor.

I worked as a waitress through sixth-form and university and there is a huge difference between reasonable mess and unreasonable mess.

Eating out as a family is not an excuse to turn it into a chimps tea party.

I can't BEAR to see people,clearly with no pride in themselves, leave a table in that kind of state. IMHO if anyone thinks that to leave a public place like that is acceptable, they ought to stick to their correct level, somewhere with troughs ideally.

I've seen it on planes too, many times, the business class section. If I were ever minted enought to be flying up the front of the plane, and had to share it with animals that left it in that state, strongly worded letters would have to be written.

There's no way I'd pick food up from the floor, though I would pick up the other stuff & encourage my DC to do so as well.

I understand that keeping 2 small children under 5 under control in a restaurant is not easy and spillage is inevitable.

However, leaving behind colouring sheets and juice cartons on the floor is inexcusable.

Eating out isn't an excuse to become a slob. Surely we giver our kids rules to follow at home so they can help make our lives easier. Why should we be so arrogant as to assume they shouldn't have the same consideration for restaurant staff?

YANBU to think the family were out of order. It's just slobbish, yobbish behaviour.

I have a 22mth old dd - we always have a mess on the floor under her chair and surrounding areas! Depending on the extent of it, I pick it up with baby wipes and either put it on a finished plate, or sometimes even fill a nappy bag with random bits of rubbish and find a bin for it.

The food depends on what we are talking about. A few bits - I'd leave. Loads of big pieces -- I'd use a napkin and pick up the worst. I have done this from the table also.

I wouldn't scrape food off the floor but certainly wouldn't let my dcs throw juice cartons on the floor. If dcs were v. little, I would just pick them up for them.
The same goes for empty popcorn bags left on the floor in the cinema. Yes, someone will come and clean it, but it's just an impolite thing to do.

The other thing I learned as a waitress is that there is a direct correlation between the amount of mess left by a family and the size of the tip. Much mess usually equals miserly or no tip.

YANBU - I would be embarrassed to leave that amount of debris in my wake. I wouldn't allow juice cartons left on the floor in my house, why would I allow it in a restaurant?
