A small part of me feels aggrieved that he didn't. He used to be so generous.......

Why are you American?

mumblechum · 15/09/2009 13:31

What's a push present?

stubbyfingers · 15/09/2009 13:31

what's a push present?

LoveBeingAMummy · 15/09/2009 13:32

Maybe he didn't think you deserved one

LoveBeingAMummy · 15/09/2009 13:33

Its a present because you have 'pushed' / had a baby

southeastastra · 15/09/2009 13:34

dump him

diddl · 15/09/2009 13:34

OMG!

That is the most revolting thing I have heard of!

A "push present"! Yuk!

mumblechum · 15/09/2009 13:34

Seriously?

Can I ask dh, 17 & 15 years later, for one now? With interest

InMyLittleHead · 15/09/2009 13:35

Google informs me that a push present is a gift a DP/DH gives his DP/DW after she's given birth. I think it is an American thing.

Generosity isn't all about material things. You do have a baby after all - pretty amazing present.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 15/09/2009 13:35

What a silly name. YANBU though, I didn't get anything, but didn't expect anything either. I might make it clear that a present is expected next time

mumblechum · 15/09/2009 13:35

Oh, actually I had Em.CS both time. So do I get Slashed Open Presents??

IdrisTheDragon · 15/09/2009 13:36

I'd have felt weird if DH had given me a present after DS and then DD were born. Suppose if you were expecting one it would be a bit disappointing not to get one though.

ShowOfHands · 15/09/2009 13:37

Of course YABU. Hideous idea. Am not opposed to the buying of presents at any time but the expectation. Yak.

MoonTheLoon · 15/09/2009 13:38

LOL at mumbles Slashed Open Present!

ilovemydogandmrobama · 15/09/2009 13:38

If you get a push present, does he get one too, for um, the thing he did 40 weeks prior

ShowOfHands · 15/09/2009 13:38

Did you give him an ejaculation present?

Dizzyclarebear · 15/09/2009 13:39

Did you drop hints about friends who got really nice 'push presents'? Did you prime a mutual friend or family member to ask him if he was going to treat you to something nice and sparkly as a thank you for giving him a child? If not, YABU - men rarely think of these things themselves.

(BTW - I don't think I'll be getting a push present, but then we are in the middle of buying a house, DH has said he'll get us a new big American style fridge freezer I really want and a new sofa rather than taking the old one to the new house, so I think expecting some sparkles might be a bit grabby)

KeithTalent · 15/09/2009 13:39

cjones2979 · 15/09/2009 13:41

YABU !!!! Why should he buy you a present for giving birth ?? It would obviously have been lovely if he did, but why do you feel so put out that he didn't ?

I gave birth to DS2 on my birthday, and didn't even get a birthday present, let alone a "push" present !!! I had been in hospital with pre-eclampsia for 2 weeks, DH was working 6 days a week, visiting me every night & also looking after DS1 through the summer hols so didn't get a chance to get out to get me anything so it didn't bother me, and he did take me out a few days after DS2 was born to buy me some beautiful jewellery.

crankytwanky · 15/09/2009 13:41

PMSL Mumblechum.

Erm, I think YABU, yes, unless he specifically said he would.

I knew a couple who had decided on a "push present" before they had even married. (A sapphire ring.) They never had children though and are now divorced.
Was a bit boaky though.

charleymouse · 15/09/2009 13:41

DH wanted to get me a pressie I told him I would rather the money went towards funding my time off work. So I suppose I did get a push pressie by default then, just nothing tangible.

Tidey · 15/09/2009 13:44

I don't like the term 'push present'. I think mumblechum's 'Slashed Open Present' suggestion is good or 'Sorry your fanjo's been turned inside out present'.

What would these gifts consist of anyway? Some thing nice and romantic like a diamond ring? Or a pack of jumbo maternity pads?

stubbyfingers · 15/09/2009 13:46

Ooh, I want A Slashed Open Present too!
