Agree DailyMailPoo woman. Can you imagine if you were the wife?

AIBU to think that it is very weird of my MIL to break into my house and cradle my husband in the middle of the night?'

WTF

angrypixie · 10/09/2009 22:15

Ninks You might be the first person I know who's even heard of the song. You are my new best friend.

Giltz · 10/09/2009 22:16

You are my sunshine, gets me everytime reminds me off my grandparents. He used to sing it to her when she was ill

Ninks · 10/09/2009 22:18

lol - just played it to DH and he hasn't either which is unusual.

Bloke has a spectacular mullet in the You-tube vid!

Georgimama · 10/09/2009 22:18

Silly me. Of course, Oscar Wilde. I do recommend The Little Prince though.

mummydoc · 10/09/2009 22:18

sorry haven't read the whole thread as blubbing too much my 3 top blubby songs apready mentioned:

morning town ( terry wogan played recently and i bawled so much i drove into the ditch- luckily on a lane and not goign fast)

slipping through my fingers ( was painting dd1 bedroom when heard that on her mamma mia cd - cue paint splatteres everywhere had to replace the carpet)

i hope you dance ( the ronan keating version was in charts on my way to hospital to have dd2 induced)

and to add one

i don't want to miss a thing ( by airosmith , this was number 1 when dd1 was born and i remeber it playing in the lift on the way up from labour ward to see her in NICU , everytime i hea rit it brings that moment back in such sharp focus it takes my breath away)

mummydoc · 10/09/2009 22:19

og god crying so hard now just thinking about it

HarrietPotter · 10/09/2009 22:20

YES! I LOVED that song when I was little even though it made me cry every time I heard it! Am so glad I'm not alone as none of my friends now have heard of it (the penalties of being friends with those much younger than oneself)

mummydoc · 10/09/2009 22:23

oh no missed off 2 litle boys - that sets me off aswell - basically i cannot be trusted not to blub most of the time

paisleyleaf · 10/09/2009 22:27

gallusbesom, Tim Curry? I'll have to look out for that.

Georgimama, I have also read 'the Little Prince' ... quite a special book.

Saucepanman · 10/09/2009 22:28

STOP IT!

Am having a blub, no idea why I opened this thread! I was ok until I read the first line of Slipping through my fingers, I remember the first time I saw Mamma Mia I nearly choked trying not to cry at it. And my baby, 4yo dd, started nursery today, so I am bawling away.

Can't even think about 2 little boys- the names of the boys are the same as my two, I discovered after ds2 was born, 9 months after ds1 was stillborn

Am off to snivel self to sleep, before dh notices and pronounces me mental. And sniggers

saintmaybe · 10/09/2009 22:29

This is a vera lynn song, from wartime

God, it makes me blub

Sleepy little eyes in a sleepy little head Sleepy time is drawing near
In a little while, you'll be tucked up in your bed
Here's a song for baby, dear

Goodnight, children, everywhere
Your Mummy thinks of you tonight
Lay your head upon your pillow
Don't be a kid or a weeping willow

Close your eyes and say a prayer
And surely you can find a kiss to spare
Tho you are far away, she's with you night and day
Goodnight, children, everywhere.

Soon the moon will rise and caress you with its beams
While the shadows softly creep
With a happy smile, you'll be wrapped up in your dreams
Baby will be fast asleep

Goodnight, children, everywhere
Your Mummy thinks of you tonight
Lay your head upon your pillow
Don't be a kid or a weeping willow

Close your eyes and say a prayer
And surely you can find a kiss to spare
Tho you are far away, she's with you night and day
Goodnight, children, everywhere

Georgimama · 10/09/2009 22:31

Oh, morning town - sob

Train whistle blowin' makes a sleepy noise
Underneath their blankets go all the girls and boys
Rockin', rollin', ridin', out along the bay
All bound for Morningtown, many miles away

Driver at the engine, fireman rings the bell
Sandman swings the lantern to show that all is well
Rockin', rollin', ridin', out along the bay
All bound for Morningtown, many miles away

Maybe it is raining where our train will ride
All the little travellers are warm and snug inside
Rockin', rollin', ridin', out along the bay
All bound for Morningtown, many miles away

Somewhere there is sunshine, somewhere there is day
Somewhere there is Morningtown, many miles away
Rockin', rollin', ridin', out along the bay
All bound for Morningtown, many miles away

Rockin', rollin', ridin', out along the bay
All bound for Morningtown, many miles away

mummydoc · 10/09/2009 22:31

doesn't anyone know a childs song about rainbows and dreamers - my dd1 had it on a cd called "australian kids songs" which has been lost - it used to make me cry

FfreckleFface · 10/09/2009 22:32

SolidGold - Bloke cries at Night Garden (and would KILL me if he knew I was posting it on tinternet). He has been off playing soldiers since March, and has it on his iPod to remind him of little Ff.

It makes me cry too, but for different reasons (i.e. not feckin Iggle Piggle AGAIN!)

Georgimama · 10/09/2009 22:34

I'm with you all on the ITNG theme - it's tragic.

LetThemEatCake · 10/09/2009 22:35

do you mean the one that Kermit the Frog sang? gets me every time, would love to sing it to the children, but my voice gets all thin and reedy and blubby!!

Why are there so many
Songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side
Rainbow's are visions
They're only illusions
And rainbows have nothing to hide
So we've been told and some chose to
Believe it
But I know they're wrong wait and see

Someday we'll find it
The Rainbow Connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me

Who said that every wish
Would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star
Somebody thought of that
And someone believed it
And look what it's done so far
What's so amazing
That keeps us star gazing
What so we think we might see

Someday we'll find it
That Rainbow Connection
The lovers the dreamers and me

Have you been half asleep
And have you heard voices
I've heard them calling my name
Are these the sweet sounds that called
The young sailors
I think they're one and the same
I've heard it too many times to ignore it
There's something that I'm supposed to be

Someday we'll find it
The Rainbow Connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me

mummydoc · 10/09/2009 22:38

Cake thats the one - but on our cd it had a lovely male singer singing it

LetThemEatCake · 10/09/2009 22:40

I'm Australian - have heard both versions, I think. Agree that Kermit's is not quite as touching...

mummydoc · 10/09/2009 22:41

my laptop is about to fuse and fizzle from being wet wih tears - the rainbow/dreamers osng was on acd i played to dd1 when we lived abroad and it was a very difficult time for me - i sobbed and howled along to it most days as i was so homesick

preciouslillywhite · 10/09/2009 22:43

what about this

Lily Allen singing about her Mum.

When the kids play this in the car I have to put my sunnies on. And sob as quietly as I can...

pranma · 10/09/2009 22:44

thank you ponders and angry pixie-just come back and enjoyed a little sob

ohfuschia · 10/09/2009 22:45

Some more that make me blub - 'Who Knows Where The Time Goes?' (most versions), 'Tank Park Salute' by Billy Bragg (reminds DP of his lovely dad sadly no longer here, especially spellbinding live) and 'That'll Do' by Peter Gabriel (from Babe:Pig in the City )

Got to agree with Bright Eyes as well, why I do it to myself every time I see that Watership Down is on I'll never know

AngelikiGR · 10/09/2009 22:46

Another one with big tears pitter-pattering on my laptop and my DP looking at me like that .

Two songs that ALWAYS make me cry are When A Child Is Born and You Are The Wind Beneath My Wings.

When A Child Is Born
-----
A ray of hope flickers in the sky
A shiny star lights up way up high
All across the land dawns a brand new morn
This comes to pass when a child is born

A silent wish sails the seven seas
The winds have changed whispering the trees
And the walls of doubt crumble tossed and torn
This comes to pass when a child is born

A rosy fume settles all around
You 've got the feel you 're on solid ground
For a spell or two no-one seems forlorn
This comes to pass when a child is born

Its all a dream and illusion now
It must come true, sometimes soon somehow
All across the land dawns a brand new morn
This comes to pass when a child is born

All across the land dawns a brand new morn
This comes to pass when a child is born

------------

You Are The Wind Beneath My Wings
---------

It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way,
you always walked a step behind.

So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strength.
A beautiful face without a name -- for so long,
a beautiful smile to hide the pain.

CHORUS:
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it,
I would be nothing with out you.

(CHORUS)

Fly, fly, fly away,
you let me fly so high.
Oh, fly, fly,
so high against the sky, so high I almost touch the sky.
Thank you, thank you, thank God for you,
the wind beneath my wings.
