Slipping Through My Fingers is genius. Esp when you think that English isn't whatsisname's first language.

And have you seen a photo montage of Agnetha & whatsisname & their daughter along with the song?

Georgimama · 10/09/2009 21:26

angrypixie but very very good choice of song.

Georgimama · 10/09/2009 21:28

Does anyone else have wine to hand, by any chance? And a DH/DP who is out?

fruitstick · 10/09/2009 21:30

Yes me

I was supposed to be sorting through my paperwork!

jamandjerusalem · 10/09/2009 21:31

Ha! Is my webcam on??

Was gonna ask, does anyone's DH/DP have the same reaction to these songs? Thought not!

angrypixie · 10/09/2009 21:32

The Alan Parsons Project
Old & Wise

This will be one of the many songs played at my funeral.

As far as my eyes can see
There are shadows approaching me
And to those I left behind
I wanted you to know
You've always shared my deepest thoughts
You follow where I go

And oh when I'm old and wise
Bitter words mean little to me
Autumn winds will blow right through me
And someday in the mist of time
When they asked me if I knew you
I'd smile and say you were a friend of mine
And the sadness would be lifted from my eyes
Oh when I'm old and wise

As far as my eyes can see
There are shadows surrounding me
And to those I leave behind
I want you all to know
You've always shared my darkest hours
I'll miss you when I go

And oh, when I'm old and wise
Heavy words that tossed and blew me
Like autumn winds that will blow right through me
And someday in the mist of time
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine
As the final curtain falls before my eyes
Oh when I'm old and wise

As far as my eyes can see

paisleyleaf my dd listens to the Happy Prince every night read by Tim Curry and I have to leave the room in floods of tears!

For me it is 'when you loved me' from Toy Story 2, Pictures of You by the Cure, Amazing Grace (dd's name). Embarrassingly I still can't listen to 'About you now' by the Sugababes after it was sung at Max's funeral on Hollyoaks

fruitstick · 10/09/2009 21:32

Has anyone read 'No Matter What' to their DC?

It is a cruel and unusual author that would spring that on an unsuspecting parent at bedtime!

Follow it up with Owl Babies and I head straight for the gin.

jamandjerusalem · 10/09/2009 21:37

I want Every Time We Say Goodbye by Ella Fitzgerald at my funeral

I think it's the most beautiful song ever written.

Or Always on my Mind by Elvis on the way in, and then the Pet Shop Boys version on the way out

wuglet · 10/09/2009 21:47

Fruitstick - you think "No Matter What" is bad?
Ever read "Love You Forever?" - DD calls it "The book that makes mummy cry" - because I do, every time I read it to her.

PolkSaladLucie · 10/09/2009 21:51

I've already chosen my funeral songs!!

The Long and Winding Road is one, and the other one I want, is Highwayman, which always gets me. A lot og Johnny Cash stuff does.

I also want a bit of Boss Hoss, as a giggle moment in the service!

Georgimama · 10/09/2009 21:51

Happy Prince? Do you mean the Little Prince? By that French guy (Antoine de St Expery if memory serves)? If so I am so excited to encounter someone who has heard of it. It is blubworthy.

preciouslillywhite · 10/09/2009 21:52

I want the Pet Shop Boys' Go West at my funeral. The 12 inch mix...

And Lean on Me by Bill Withers.

They'll all be in tatters

Lulubee · 10/09/2009 21:53

Oh god, I'm another one sitting here sniffing loudly and slurping wine. This one I love to bits, I played it to my mum and she fell in love with it too, only then she said she wanted it to be played at HER funeral (morbid woman) and that makes me cry when I think of it now!

Adele to make you feel my love

angrypixie · 10/09/2009 21:55

I hate Love you forever.

I feel like it's trying to manipulate me.

preciouslillywhite · 10/09/2009 21:55

...plus Pet Shop Boys' "Wouldn't Normally Do This Kind of Thing" at our wedding, to be followed by ABBA's "Day Before You Came"

Lulubee · 10/09/2009 21:55

Also, was at Glastonbury a few years ago when they had Rolf on doing his turn. When he sang Two Little Boys I was mortified to feel myself welling up. Felt a bit better when I glanced around and saw that at least half the group I was with were wiping away a sneaky tear

PolkSaladLucie · 10/09/2009 21:57

wuglet - is that the one Joey reads in Friends? It's lovely. I can't read "What colour is love" when hormonal, I adore the book, but it does pull at the heartstrings -

"What colour is Love? I'll tell you little one. It's as dark as the night and as bright as the sun. Imagine a colour and love is right there. Love is every colour, every thing, everywhere. What colour is Love? Every colour, all around... because nothing else matters when it's Love that you've found".

gallusbesom · 10/09/2009 21:57

Georgimama Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde - sob!

PolkSaladLucie · 10/09/2009 22:00

Ow - The Happy Prince! At the end, with the dear little sparrow - sob!

and The Little Match Girl is another one...

LedodgyDailyMailstinksofpoo · 10/09/2009 22:03

Love you forever is sad although it also makes me go a bit on two counts.

1.the mother waits till he's asleep to tell him she loves him.

  1. She goes round to his flat at night on a bus when he's an adult and lets herself in to sing to him when he's asleep ffs.
Ninks · 10/09/2009 22:08

angrypixie thank you so much for that. I taped it off the radio, (most of it anyway) by chance when I was a teenager and never found out who wrote or sung it. Lovely - and he has such a haunting voice...

Ninks · 10/09/2009 22:09

Old and Wise that is.

wuglet · 10/09/2009 22:10

Yes I have to agree with point 2 there - wtf kind of weirdo crosses town to climb in their grown-up child's window to pick them up.....

If only I could be this blase when she dies at the end

movingnow · 10/09/2009 22:11

Has to be Rolf with "Two Little Boys", it was my first record, age 6.
