AIBU?

..to really take a dislike people who I only know as paragraphs on a webpage??

I've namechanged for this, and won't name any of the MNetters that I'm referring to (so please don't either!). BUT, do you ever find the same MNetters on threads you are commenting on - and they always disagree with what you think??

This seems to happen to me alot and I find myself really disliking them, which is ridiculous. Sat here on my computer, they aren't even real people, just paragraphs of text on the screen so how can I dislike them so much??!

Am I the only one that gets this? Or are there more of you out there that are just as irrational as me?

I don't really remember names a lot of the time, and I have to admit to getting quite vexed and confused with all the name-changing. Can someone explain the purpose of it to me?

a few posters i can't stand...vast majority are really cool...and one or two i'm probably in love with..

don't like flouncers...what's the point.? just leave if you don't like it..

don't like people who never admit they might have got something wrong.....plus people who take things way too personally and carry arguments from thread to thread...

amen

I love a good flounce, proper hair flicking required though.

But once someone flounces, when they come back I tend to write off most of what they say. Internet messageboards are just not worth getting your knickers in a twist over.

morloth...if you're going to flounce....do it in style...don't come back a week later...too sad.

There are plenty of people whose posts I utterly disagree with (those who never use short cut ingredients in cooking, those who insist on clarke's shoes), however nobody really annoys me.

There was one poster who I came very close to dislikingm, however she turned out to be a long-running troll (clue: Barry Manilow)

Everyone else is lovely

i am agreeing with you btw...not accusing you of flouncing once a month...

I'm too stubborn to ever flounce. That would mean they had won.

Whoever they might be...

Ooh flouncers corner makes me laugh.

I mean, a whole topic for the sensitive to go to and say 'that's it, I'm off'.

I mean, what's the point? Obviously to encourage everyone else to post 'oh please don't go' and other vomit-enducing posts.

Nobody ever leaves here, ever. Fact.

I got what you meant daftpunk. I never flounce, if I find a board/thread pissing me off I just stop going there. Internets is fun time for me, so if it isn't fun, there is no point.

Morloth · 25/08/2009 13:28

GetOrfMoiLand, I am convinced that is the real reason for a flounce so everyone will beg them not to go and tell them how special they are.

I find it very hard to resist baiting people when they do this stuff - so I don't try (to resist that is).

Morloth - I love it when someone bowls up and says 'well f* off then!'.

They are like the equivalent of the girl at school who used to take herself off into the corner and sigh meaningfully, sending darting little glances towards everyone else. Everyone would go up to her 'oh what's wrong, poor you' etc. Attention seeking.

flouncing IS nobbish (hence my nickname, having deregged and lost my old one)

but when you've been here for nearly 4 years, made really close connections and been to fucking hell and back with the same posters, it becomes more than just "fun time"

people get upset, lose their tempers, do irrational and stupid things like flouncing

and a flounce thread isn't usually a calculated attempt to get people to say "oh no, we love you" so you can sit and read it and simper

usually (IME anyway) it's a "I''m seething, I'm hurt and I need to vent about it" like many other threads on MN

You shouldn't get that involved with a messageboard Greensleeves - way too many crazy/mean people about - like me for instance.

Flounce threads are all about whining and wanting to be told how special the flouncer is IME. Hence flouncers almost always returning.

In any case as I said I love a good flounce, some people are very very good at the dramatic and that is always entertaining.

No, YOU shouldn't get that involved with a message board, because YOU think it's a bad idea and not worth it

I on the other hand have got a huge amount out of my close involvement with MN - despite the downsides and the times I've got hurt - some of my best RL friends are people I met on MN

It's worth it to me

which is why I am here under this ridiculous nickname knowinf damn well that people like you are curling their lips and thinking "what a twat, flouncing and then crawling back"

is it cold up there on the high ground?

Wasn't directed at you at all Greensleeves - I didn't notice that you had flounced. Glad you're back, FWIW, you always stand out as a nice person to me.

The high ground is excellent, which is why everyone wants to be on it.

I suspect that those who do flounce for effect rather than for information iyswim, are those who don't get enough attention anyway. Well known posters don't need to. After a while people will notice and comment. Greensleeves left because she was highly incensed. Twas a moral and outraged flounce not a 'look at me' flounce. I think.
