To think that health professionals should not call me MUM

DD had her jabs today and the nurse kept on calling me "Mum" even though I said to her that I did not want her to call me "Mum". I told her that it was a biological impossiblity that I was her mother.

I have two children and I am happy for me to call me Mum, but I do have a proper name and I think health professionals should use it.

Which side are the introverst?

beckysharp · 21/08/2009 23:38

Poor Aitch, all alone in a serious discussion now while we all talk about pets ...

Think in honour of this thread I may change my name to MrsBeckySharp...

chichichien · 21/08/2009 23:39

My vet stares at me and says, 'don;t feed her so much'. In my head I am screaming, 'tell the chuffing cat, not me! I'm not her mum'

edam · 21/08/2009 23:40

chichi, this particular vet has on several occasions conned my mother into taking on animals that other owners have abandoned AND into meeting the ruddy vet's bill run up by said owners who did a runner!

So I am sure she is always very careful to call my mother Mrs XXXXXXX (the walking cheque book).

chichichien · 21/08/2009 23:40

I asked a numbe rof questions to cat re lawyers earlier on, ones that I was quite interested in, not being familiar with the system. No answer. SIlencio

AitchwonderswhoFruitCrumbleis · 21/08/2009 23:40

i'm no introvert. but no fucker's to call me mum unless it's a child of mine. [jeremy kyle]

exactly swc. i think you've had an unreasonably hard time on this thread.

more controversially, i tend to assume that anyone who calls me 'mum' (and isn't my actual progeny) is just a bit thick...

chichichien · 21/08/2009 23:41

Maybe when I get landed with a hefty bill, the vet will develop respeck and professionalism and call me MrsDog

edam · 21/08/2009 23:42

Oh, and to the vet who called becky 'Rex's Mummy'. I wouldn't have gone back, either.

AitchwonderswhoFruitCrumbleis · 21/08/2009 23:42

oh yes, sorry beckysharp. am at a loss when it comes to pets. and by pets i mean cats.

beckysharp · 21/08/2009 23:42

I'm very extrovert. But very keen on formality.

swc you are quite right about confidence.

chichichien · 21/08/2009 23:42

You can talk about any pets you like, aitch. Pets is funny

beckysharp · 21/08/2009 23:43

Indeed edam. Now that really would be one for jeremy kyle ...

my pal's cat is a diabetic. she's got to inject him twice a day. (obviously i think she should just put the mangy beast down).

is that the kind of thing?

mariemarie · 21/08/2009 23:44

Just a quick reply, then I am really bowing out. Aitch - you missed my point earlier - HPs address their patients by their name, just as swc addressess her clients by their preferred name.

This discussion is about how the HPs address the patients mum. Thought that was perfectly clear.

To compare how a HP addressess patients mums with how a lawyer addressess their clients is just plain silly.

MillyR · 21/08/2009 23:45

My introvert theory is not holding up then.

Which is a shame, because I like to blame extroverts for the destruction of our society. On this HCP issue it seems they are not responsible.

beckysharp · 21/08/2009 23:45

perfect aitch! ... pop over to the pet forum now, you'll be well in

night all ...

AitchwonderswhoFruitCrumbleis · 21/08/2009 23:45

no it isn't, god, not even slightly silly. lawyers are only in charge of your freedom, hcps are in charge of whether you live or die. i really need them to understand manners and how to read notes and respond to patient needs...

yeah yeah yeah, diabetic cats.

My vet told me recently my cat might have asthma. I ask you. As if I could be bothered with an asthmatic cat.

chichichien · 21/08/2009 23:48

yep, they do call teh patient by their name. This was one of the questions I raised earlier, re how often alawyer is in this situation.

edam · 21/08/2009 23:48

yes aitch, nice start, but what does the vet call her? Bet it's not 'Tiddlesmummy'.

My original point about vet a long time ago, was that vets are equally dealing with the adult who is responsible for the patient, with people who are anxious, stressed, under pressure - and they manage to avoid calling me 'Mum'. So it's clearly not impossible...

AitchwonderswhoFruitCrumbleis · 21/08/2009 23:48

lol YES chichi.

and yet she seemed on the verge of tears when i pointed this out. [erk]

mariemarie · 21/08/2009 23:48

Flippin eck, you'll be sayin that a firefighter should be asking how you would like to be addressed next, before he/she gets their hands on your arse to rescue you from a blazing window. Erm, excuse me, how would you like to be addressed?

chichichien · 21/08/2009 23:49

Does your cat call you Mum, edam?

If not, you are talking rot.

If so, phone Britain's Got Talent..
