To be a bit annoyed that my cleaner made herself a cuppa?

Have had a cleaner for about 8 weeks. On first visit I offered her a cuppa as I was having one but she declined and said she always brought her own drinks with her [pointed to cool bag].

I usually let her in and clear off with the DCs while she's there but last week I came back a bit earlier than normal and noticed she'd made herself a brew.

I'm not really pissed off but it's niggling at me. Isn't there and unwritten rule that they shouldn't go in your cupboards/drawers?

shocking she should see your kitchin cupboard when she's seen your bedroom, your dirty loo and works in this heat.

I work as a nanny and always make the cleaner a cup of tea and viceversa - maybe I should check with my boss

I have also been known to nibble some chocolate cake out the larder too

knockedgymnast · 19/08/2009 20:39

I would love to be able to afford a cleaner.

malung · 19/08/2009 20:41

Are you for real?

masonicpixiesreadthedailymail · 19/08/2009 20:43

I think you should let her drink the dregs from yr cups

and maybe leave a pot of gruel for her to help herself to

Rindercella · 19/08/2009 20:46

At last...after all the DM crapola, this thread has restored my faith that MN will, eventually, get back to its normal self

OP, YABtotallyU.

bellavita · 19/08/2009 20:50

You are being very mean.

HolyGuacamole · 19/08/2009 20:54

Oh FFS. Get a life. Send me your address and I'll post you a teabag to make up for it.

hf128219 · 19/08/2009 21:01

You are obviously not used to staff.

When you are not there they usually try on your undies - and nick your face cream too.

LedodgyDailyMailstinksofpoo · 19/08/2009 21:03

How did you notice she'd made herself a brew? Did she leave a dirty cup? If so then that's a bit out of order considering she's meant to clean but if you counted the teabags then YABU.

Jujubean77 · 19/08/2009 21:04

Public flogging I think an apt punishment, ideas far above her station and very impertinent to drink a whole cup of tea.

foreverchanges · 19/08/2009 21:06

yabu get your head out you orifice

DesperateHousewifeToo · 19/08/2009 21:10

Unless she was drinking it whilst sitting on your sofa wearing your agent provocateur undies, having lit your Jo Malone candle and using your 'exclusive hand made just for you' face pack, I don't see any problem at all.

I think you are quite strange to be annoyed about this tbh

She'll probably leave fleas in our beds as revenge for your stingyness

Lifeinagoldfishbowl · 19/08/2009 21:10

yes how do you know? Did you feel the kettle? Count the teabags

AnyFucker · 19/08/2009 21:10

I'm the only cleaner we can afford in my house, although DH has started hiding the kettle before he leaves in the morning....

AnyFucker · 19/08/2009 21:15

...tis

theyoungvisiter · 19/08/2009 21:16

Hang on, did I read this right

"I've never had a cleaner before (this one's going once I get over my op)."

You are sacking the woman for using a teabag?

Not if she gets there first, I bet.

theyoungvisiter · 19/08/2009 21:17

or does OP refer to an operation, rather than original post?

I hope so...

LadyHooHa · 19/08/2009 21:18

YAB completely and utterly U. I would worry if my cleaner didn't feel that she could help herself to a cuppa at the very least.

AnyFucker · 19/08/2009 21:19

I reckon this cleaner is already cleaning the toilet rim with the OP's toothbrush

pranma · 19/08/2009 21:23

YABVU of course she is allowed a tea break-maybe she forgot hers, maybe she was thirsty I feel embarrassed for you!My cleaner always makes herself a cuppa. It started when I was on chemo and had to ask her to make me a drink.I insisted she had one too and now she always makes a cup whether I am in or not.
