To be a bit annoyed that my cleaner made herself a cuppa?

Have had a cleaner for about 8 weeks. On first visit I offered her a cuppa as I was having one but she declined and said she always brought her own drinks with her [pointed to cool bag].

I usually let her in and clear off with the DCs while she's there but last week I came back a bit earlier than normal and noticed she'd made herself a brew.

I'm not really pissed off but it's niggling at me. Isn't there and unwritten rule that they shouldn't go in your cupboards/drawers?

What on earth might she find in your cupboards if she is only making herself a cup of tea?

YABU

I think this is the first time I've replied in an AIBU thread, so let's say

YABVU.

cupcakesinthesnow · 19/08/2009 20:12

YABVU!

Maybe she forgot her cook bag of drinks. Maybe she just fancied a hot drink!

Getting the tea/coffee/sugar in order to make a hot drink is hardly rifling through your drawers fgs!

LaTrucha · 19/08/2009 20:13

Like the 'they' in the last sentence too...

HaggisNeepsnTatties · 19/08/2009 20:17

I think this is a wind up ladies. And Schubert I have replied on the other thread you started.

Get a life

branhasnocommentfortheDM · 19/08/2009 20:18

I predict that very soon the (previously unknown to me) OP will come back and reveal herself to be the cleaner in question.

I read far to many AIBU threads.

blinks · 19/08/2009 20:20

rub her nose in the cutlery drawer next time you see her and she might think twice..

ssd · 19/08/2009 20:20

I hope she used the servants entrance?

OK OK OK! I was just a bit surprised because she'd been so adamant that she always brought her own supplies I assumed she preferred it that way.

So you would all agree that it is fine for anyone doing work in your house just to help themselves? I've never had a cleaner before (this one's going once I get over my op).

OP posts:
ssd · 19/08/2009 20:23

hope she gets a better employer

HaggisNeepsnTatties · 19/08/2009 20:24

Making a cup of tea is hardly 'helping themselves'...if however she is rifling through your underwear drawer and cleaning your loo with your toothbrush then that is a different matter.....

NorbertDentressangle · 19/08/2009 20:24

Don't worry about it.

Deduct it from her wages (along with the cost of the electricity shes used to hoover)

Thunderduck · 19/08/2009 20:24

YABVU. I'd hate to feel that my hypothetical cleaner would feel that she couldn't make herself a cup of tea and even have a biscuit with it.

ScuseMe · 19/08/2009 20:26

Fucking. Hell.

Who said common decency was dead?

expatinscotland · 19/08/2009 20:28

My mum's cleaner is from El Salvador. My mum's a native Spanish speaker, too!

Lupita comes 3x/week and, when she comes on Wednesday, my mum makes a nice lunch for them to have together.

She's helped her when her grandkids were sick, helped her with immigration issues, helped her when her car broke down.

YABU and mean.

LaTrucha · 19/08/2009 20:29

Right now, if someone came to do my ironing I'd be so grateful she could rifle through all our undie drawers if she wanted to. And have a gold plated teabag.

expatinscotland · 19/08/2009 20:30

Domestic staff just don't know their place these days, I find .

messalina · 19/08/2009 20:35

What's the problem? Do you keep your sex aids in your crockery cupboard?
