to wonder why another MNer would randomly send me a CAT message asking me to indulge in slagging off other threads?

Never heard of this MNer before (but then I have only been around here for a year and regularly posting for about 6 months). Claims to be posting under a new name but was previously someone else on here - whose name I have seen on threads - and asks me to indulge in some slagging off of threads. Ignored message and then find myself being referred to as "poncetastic" on a thread I posted. Can accept the accusation....probably am a bit poncetastic at times....but all seems very strange "coincidence".

AIBU to wonder question posted in title of thread?

AIBU to think this is pathetic behaviour?

AIBU to think that this kind of trolling etc happens all too often on MN?

(am trying to steer clear of starting a thread about a thread issues here ).

OP posts:

exactly ggirl, not the crime of the century. and i could be slagging you off via email Right This Very Minute kingrolo and you'd never know about it. unless the person i sent the email to ill-advisedly started a thread about it on MN and you put two and two together.

If the OP thinks its so wrong to encourage people to slag off others, why did she post a thread encouraging everyone to slag off (havent said "slag off" since I was at school 20 years ago) one person??

AitchTwoOh · 23/07/2009 13:10

hang on, i've just read what you wrote in more detail. so you've already asked this person what it was about on a thread here? not to mention the fact that you have her email address and could ask her privately?

this is a bullshit OP.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/07/2009 13:11

yes, a stirring one

AitchTwoOh · 23/07/2009 13:12

AND you started it in AIBU, the most-read part of the site. this is extremely nasty, infinitely more so than having a giggle about someone's crappy taste in shoes.

brimfull · 23/07/2009 13:13

I agree with aitch.

OP is being a mean girl in very sneaky mean girl way .

so the OP should just stay quiet and not let people know there's something fishy going on?

oh sorry - I forgot - it's a long standing member with high status we're talking about isn't it

SpawnChorus · 23/07/2009 13:13

I'm cringing for whoever CATed the OP tbh. How mortifying! If it is Cod, then I'm surprised...I didn't think behind-the-back bitchiness was her style.

FAQ - for me its not about the member having "high status" , she has never been pleasant to me, but I am still defending her because this seems much worse than the original "offence"...IYSWIM?

AitchTwoOh · 23/07/2009 13:15

what is going on, exactly, FAQ? mrsjohnsimm apparently has already taken it up with the poster in question on here, this is just an optional nasty extra. very mean girl, i agree gg.

foofi · 23/07/2009 13:16

MN seems to have gone bonkers lately. Suppose if it was Cod her ususal sarcastic tone might have been misinterpreted by op as malicious?

I really think we should wait for the "suspected" poster to put her side of the story across. I doubt it was meant as it came across but of course as we haven't seen the original message then we can't really comment.

SpawnChorus · 23/07/2009 13:17

Hmmm, AItch, I disagree. I would be hurt a the thought of people secretly laughing at my style threads off-board. Whoever CATed the OP is unlikely to be hurt by this thread. Embarrassed for being exposed as somewhat juvenile and bitchy perhaps, but not hurt.

slyandgobbo · 23/07/2009 13:17

. Agree with Aitch and ggirl.

FAQtothefuture · 23/07/2009 13:18

oh come on there are a handful of "old timers" that have always been shit stirrers (newer members posting the same stuff would be labelled as trolls), they were doing it when I first arrived on MN years ago, but it's ok because they're venerated members so aren't doing it maliciously.

TheFallenMadonna · 23/07/2009 13:18

It's something I could live very happily without knowing about TBH. Rather reminds me of work, where no-one can send an email chasing something up without copying in pretty much everyone else. Hate it.

FAQ- yes, I agree actually, but can only speak for myself, in that I dont consider her to be "venerated" with "high status".

slyandgobbo · 23/07/2009 13:20

I have never really ntoiced that FAQ. Maybe am obtuse. But also if you "know" someone, you may have a better sense of what their motives are than you would if someone you do not yet know does a similar thing?

FAQtothefuture · 23/07/2009 13:20

well I don't consider anyone to have that status on here- but it is the general view of some I think that there are some that are higher and mightier than the rest of us .

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/07/2009 13:21

yes, that did used to put me off this place a bit, so i DO hope it isnt starting again.
