to wonder why another MNer would randomly send me a CAT message asking me to indulge in slagging off other threads?

Never heard of this MNer before (but then I have only been around here for a year and regularly posting for about 6 months). Claims to be posting under a new name but was previously someone else on here - whose name I have seen on threads - and asks me to indulge in some slagging off of threads. Ignored message and then find myself being referred to as "poncetastic" on a thread I posted. Can accept the accusation....probably am a bit poncetastic at times....but all seems very strange "coincidence".

AIBU to wonder question posted in title of thread?

AIBU to think this is pathetic behaviour?

AIBU to think that this kind of trolling etc happens all too often on MN?

(am trying to steer clear of starting a thread about a thread issues here ).

Good grief - some people really do need to get out more. Sorry you've been the victim of some numpty's CATtiness TRMJS. If it's any consolation, I've had emails threatening me with physical injury IRL this week because of a proposed residents' parking zone...

There are mentalists with no sense of perspective everywhere unfortunately.

Perhaps Setsquare would care to come and defend herself. I'd be interested in what she has to say regarding this.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 23/07/2009 00:21

Mamazon guessed correctly.

Yes, Nancy, that's exactly the kind of feeling I have now - that its all getting bitchy. Didn't used to feel like that and so weird to randomly single people out.

This person also claims to be Cod. I don't know anything about Cod apart from remembering seeing the name on posts from last year.

I was pretty sure it was her - but got up to 99.99% certain following a post today about speeding tickets

Thanks everyone .

You have put my mind at ease. I know it sounds stupid but I have had to deal with some real crap via weirdos and the internet recently and this kind of sent me a bit over the edge this evening, wondering if I am some kind of psycho magnet!!

OP posts:
famishedass · 23/07/2009 00:25

I'm lost - is it cod, or someone pretending to be cod?

ThePlanningCommittee · 23/07/2009 00:26

TRMJS - "I have had to deal with some real crap via weirdos and the internet recently" - you're not a councillor by any chance are you...? ;)

I don't honestly believe she meant it bitchily - 'poncetastic' is the kind of word lots of MNers use of themselves and their friends in a jokey way.
Emailing you to try to get you to bitch about other threads would be off though; and if she didn't know you then downright weird (could she have thought you were someone else?).

blinks · 23/07/2009 00:35

there was a thread today where she was horrid to the OP and then everyone rounded on the OP for defending herself... my inner radar was a-beeping at the time.

LackaDAISYcal · 23/07/2009 00:38

lol FAQ, maybe I should have said only the very seasoned MNErs have that sort of posting ability

Saucepanman · 23/07/2009 00:38

Just came on here all pleased with myself to hint at who it was and see you all have beaten me to it! I'll not give up the day job for a life as a detective just yet....

VelvetPlum · 23/07/2009 00:42

Oh lordy, and today had been looking so promising!!

I honestly think she's just trying to make pals with you, if you can overlook the nature of the invite, its quite cute really

cornsillk · 23/07/2009 00:44

Why would someone cat someone that they didn't know to ask them to slag off a thread? Very strange. I don't know what's gone on, but could it be someone copying somebody else's obvious posting style to cause trouble?

BitOfFun · 23/07/2009 00:48

I'm sure it was just a slightly clumsy attempt to be friendly towards you - I don't think she is malicious at all, just sparky, and is often very kind actually. IMO.

Kathy - yes, poncetastic is an MN favourite It's not that I am seriously offended by her comment - it's a word I like to use myself! Am just wary of being drawn into something which I don't want to be part of and wondering if all my posts are going to be targeted in a similar fashion now. Also, was genuinely interested to know if anyone else had been a recipient of a similar CAT (didn't even know what this was until I received one today......still not entirely sure other than it was going to cost me £5 to reply by same method so ended up replying by email).

I did ask if she thought I was someone else (MrsJohnSimm, for example ) and she said no, it was me she wanted to contact

TPC - no, am not a councillor! Was related to psychotic and poisonous relatives making nuisances of themselves. And that is a huge understatement!

I have no idea what the hell this thread is about.

expatinscotland · 23/07/2009 00:56

And I'm Slim Shady, yes, I'm the real Shady, all you other Slim Shadies are just imitating.

KristinaM · 23/07/2009 01:12

FWIW i thought your thread was a perfectly normal " style and beauty" one and not at all poncy

cherryblossoms · 23/07/2009 01:21

And I'll second KristinaM. At the risk of being creepy, I do love your posts in S and B. (Sort of wish I had CAT so I could say that a bit less publicly. It's a bit ... crush-y. )
