to wonder why another MNer would randomly send me a CAT message asking me to indulge in slagging off other threads?

Never heard of this MNer before (but then I have only been around here for a year and regularly posting for about 6 months). Claims to be posting under a new name but was previously someone else on here - whose name I have seen on threads - and asks me to indulge in some slagging off of threads. Ignored message and then find myself being referred to as "poncetastic" on a thread I posted. Can accept the accusation....probably am a bit poncetastic at times....but all seems very strange "coincidence".

AIBU to wonder question posted in title of thread?

AIBU to think this is pathetic behaviour?

AIBU to think that this kind of trolling etc happens all too often on MN?

(am trying to steer clear of starting a thread about a thread issues here ).

OP posts:

don't you think she just mistook you for her friend with a very similar name and sent you a friendly CAT by mistake??

Tamarto · 23/07/2009 12:38

No one but the OP knows what this person said as all we have is the OPs take on the CAT.

It doesn't matter if someones posting style hasn't changed as that isn't a seach option so outing her because she's not making enough effort to stay hidden is a ridiculous arguement.

slyandgobbo · 23/07/2009 12:38

I like a jape too.

this is a supremely stirry thread IMO

PuppyLoves · 23/07/2009 12:40

She asked if she mistaken her for someone else fanjos and was told she hadn't.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/07/2009 12:40

oh i see, then sorry. But that would have been my first conclusion, not to post about it.

Anyway that will teach me to read whole threads before posting

PuppyLoves · 23/07/2009 12:41

The moldies are here defending - what a shock

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/07/2009 12:42

i hope you don't mean I am a moldie, I have never been asked to join and don't really know much about it.

(Checks watch) Ah yes the biannual bashing of a regular poster was due to start today.

PuppyLoves · 23/07/2009 12:44

I wasn't refering to you or anyone in particulr Fanjo

PuppyLoves · 23/07/2009 12:45
TheFallenMadonna · 23/07/2009 12:45

How can you not have been referring to anyone in particular?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/07/2009 12:46

well thats good. I am a newbie really

Just don't like stirring threads of any type, is all.

if you did mean me (and I suspect you did) its actually quite funny as I am so far from being a moldie, in fact the poster in question in the OP has only ever spoken to me twice, to call me a wanker.

HolyGuacamole · 23/07/2009 12:52

I'd say it is rude to cat someone you don't know unless you've asked first, and even more so if it is to sir up trouble. It's not a crime or anything, it's just school girlish and immature.

What if OP had replied to the cat in a way that slagged off the thread and then the person who originally catted, posted that reply on here? And what if the person being slagged off was a really popular member? Everyone would then be thinking that OP was out of order for joining in and slagging someone off.

I'd say it was sneaky thing to do, either way, the person who done the catting has gotten the attention they seek.

Niecie · 23/07/2009 12:54

Seems a bit strange to me that somebody who is allegedly changing their name daily for the purposes of anonymity should CAT somebody they don't know to stir up trouble by asking them to slag off other threads.

Why would somebody do that? Weird.

A bit attention seeking and needy.

brimfull · 23/07/2009 12:56

tis all harmless fun imo
I don't see what all the fuss is about

PuppyLoves · 23/07/2009 13:00

I don't think I'd find it harmless fun if a troop of posters turned up on my thread just to attack me

DebiNewberry · 23/07/2009 13:01

I think if you are going to do this, you (op) need to go the whole hog and post the msg sent to you.

AitchTwoOh · 23/07/2009 13:02

how strange that you'd start a thread about this rather than wait for MNHQ to investigate.

it sounds to me like she was being friendly and having a laugh... no need for the forensic examination.

KingRolo · 23/07/2009 13:03

It's only harmless fun if you're not the OP of an innocuous thread who gets slagged off for no reason.

Yes, it's only the internet but there are real people behind the MN names.

brimfull · 23/07/2009 13:04

poncestastic or chicken is hardly slagging off though is it?
