to wonder why another MNer would randomly send me a CAT message asking me to indulge in slagging off other threads?

Never heard of this MNer before (but then I have only been around here for a year and regularly posting for about 6 months). Claims to be posting under a new name but was previously someone else on here - whose name I have seen on threads - and asks me to indulge in some slagging off of threads. Ignored message and then find myself being referred to as "poncetastic" on a thread I posted. Can accept the accusation....probably am a bit poncetastic at times....but all seems very strange "coincidence".

AIBU to wonder question posted in title of thread?

AIBU to think this is pathetic behaviour?

AIBU to think that this kind of trolling etc happens all too often on MN?

(am trying to steer clear of starting a thread about a thread issues here ).

OP posts:

oh bloody hell this is ridiculous. yes you are being mean therealmrsjohnsimm.

PortBlacksandResident · 23/07/2009 12:10

i think it would be a good idea to cut and paste the message - after all ".....and asks me to indulge in some slagging off of threads" doesn't sound very innocent but it's hard to tell from description.

was this slagging off of threads behind the scenes on CAT or was it an invite to gang up on posters? It's a bit wishy washy at the mo.

VelvetPlum · 23/07/2009 12:11

I dont think Therealmrsjohnsimm has done anything wrong at all, I dont really think setsquare has either.
It seems unfair of people to have a dig that she started this thread - I think it was an attempt to deal with a situation (which she didnt choose to be in) she felt uncomfprtable with in an honest, open way.
If all disputes were dealt with in such a mature, matter-of-fact manner then the world would turn into a massive rainbow coloured smiley. Or something.
She is also not responsible for posts other people make on this thread.

LIZS · 23/07/2009 12:17

I find the timing of this coincidental to the other thread(s). That was started up by someone apparently disinterested yet fascinated, wonder if this is too ?

TheChilliMooseisPerplexed · 23/07/2009 12:19

Velvetplum, you've made me think. You're right, the OP has done nothing wrong. She was a bit miffed at what had happened with regard to the CAT message.
And we don't know setsquare's motives. As BoF said, it may have been a clumsy attempt at friendship.

PuppyLoves · 23/07/2009 12:21

This is ridicouous.

A certain poster is causing trouble and secretly asking others to back her up. This is not shocking as shes been doing it for years.

Even less shocking is the people that have turned up to defend this behaviour. Had this been a newbie then all hell would have broken loose.

The worst thing is that said poster is sitting back, reading every word of this and loving it and those that are defending her know that as well.

YANBU OP but by starting ths thread you are just playing into her hands

Is this all about style threads?!

PuppyLoves · 23/07/2009 12:25

That sceniro happens all the time lockets. Someone starts a fairly innocous innocent thread, said poster takes offence and suddenly the whole of moldies lots of other posters are attacking the OP for no reason at all.

scaredoflove · 23/07/2009 12:25

so the mean girls are coming back, all forgiven and it is already going back to how it used to be.....which wasn't a nice place to be a lot of the time. Cliques and suck ups a plenty

Shame, as these last few months have been quite pleasant

PuppyLoves · 23/07/2009 12:26

Oh I god I never PMSL but a tiny bit of wee did come out when I read that Lockets

VelvetPlum · 23/07/2009 12:27

Agree, nothing to do with moldies. Coincidental timing is all - setsqare has been back for a while by all accounts.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 23/07/2009 12:29

I'm very glad that I'm oblivious to this sort of stuff going on. I've been on MN for years and post most days but all the bitching passes me by without me even noticing it. I'm either not reading the right threads or I'm very dim. Probably the latter.

I don't notice the name changers, I don't notice peoples' posting style, not even Cod's and I understand she's back posting under a different name. I'm glad the politics pass me by and I just enjoy the posts/forums without the worry.

PuppyLoves · 23/07/2009 12:29

coincidental

flatcapandpearls · 23/07/2009 12:31

Maybe the person who sent the post meant it to be harmless fun, although it seems very odd to me. Particularly to someone they don't know.

What is worrying is that at the moment there are some very unpleasant people on mumsnet, who take great joy out of bullying people and they would have taken this invitation as a licence ( that word looks odd) to peddle their poison.

KingRolo · 23/07/2009 12:33

Puppyloves - I think you are right. There have been attempts to stir up trouble on a couple of very innocuous threads recently. Sometimes it kicks off and sometimes it doesn't.

You are right too that if this was a newbie there is no way anyone would be defending her.

PortBlacksandResident · 23/07/2009 12:34

And how is this trmjs fault? If i'd have recieved said CAT i'd have made it public too.

Like i said, cut and paste .

Yes - not slagging off either party - but how can we tell without proper information?

MagNacarta · 23/07/2009 12:36

I suspect you've missunderstood that particular poster's style. Fwiw I wasn't a particular friend, but am rather pleased to see her back (although I was a bit slow on the uptake initially).

PuppyLoves · 23/07/2009 12:37

I don't think 'having your own mind' fits in with the criteria of being a moldie. In actual fact I think you may have been blackballed for daring to own such a thing

slyandgobbo · 23/07/2009 12:37

My own observation would be that the person in question (the Cat-er not the Cate-ee) enjoys a jape.
