to wonder why another MNer would randomly send me a CAT message asking me to indulge in slagging off other threads?

Never heard of this MNer before (but then I have only been around here for a year and regularly posting for about 6 months). Claims to be posting under a new name but was previously someone else on here - whose name I have seen on threads - and asks me to indulge in some slagging off of threads. Ignored message and then find myself being referred to as "poncetastic" on a thread I posted. Can accept the accusation....probably am a bit poncetastic at times....but all seems very strange "coincidence".

AIBU to wonder question posted in title of thread?

AIBU to think this is pathetic behaviour?

AIBU to think that this kind of trolling etc happens all too often on MN?

(am trying to steer clear of starting a thread about a thread issues here ).

Though i think the posters who've suggested it's a compliment may well have a point.

Mumcentreplus · 23/07/2009 03:00

Shock
sherby · 23/07/2009 10:49

what did the cat say exactly

greenday · 23/07/2009 10:49

Hah babybarrister .. I was just thinking the same. Why is it it never happens to me!?

StealthPolarBear · 23/07/2009 11:03

So who is setsquare?

BecauseImWorthIt · 23/07/2009 11:07

Whatever the rights and wrongs of this, please don't out the person. She has to name change regularly because of being stalked/threatened in RL.

EccentricaGallumbits · 23/07/2009 11:08

bonkers

harleyd · 23/07/2009 11:09

expat.....you just made me lol

sherby · 23/07/2009 11:17

why didn't you CAT her back, if it made you feel uncomfortable?

random · 23/07/2009 11:18

MN has gone quite mad just lately .....

Upwind · 23/07/2009 11:19

YANBU

LIZS · 23/07/2009 11:21
Hmm
StealthPolarBear · 23/07/2009 11:23

oh sorry BIWI - I thought this was a famous troll

idranktheteaatwork · 23/07/2009 11:24

Sherby - the op said that she emailed her back as she doesn't want to pay a fiver to reply to the CAT message she received.

TheChilliMooseNeedsaDiary · 23/07/2009 11:27

That's a very strange thing for someone to do.
Perhaps, as BitofFun said, it was a clumsy attempt to be friendly towards you.

PuzzleRocks · 23/07/2009 11:27

and thrice

CybilLiberty · 23/07/2009 11:28

Sounds weird to me

FAQtothefuture · 23/07/2009 11:31

BIWI - I think the prett much out themselves by their posting style and comments tbh.

And if the OP really has been invited to slag off threads on MN, I don't care whether it's someone that's been here since 2000, or someone that's been here since yesterday - it's not on.

Just because someone is a long time member doesn't mean they're all sickly sweet and innocent.

differentID · 23/07/2009 11:37

if we are all correct then this poster is not know for being sweet or innocent- far from it.

KingRolo · 23/07/2009 11:38

Really odd.

Though this reminds me that that particular poster - the one named by Mamazon - called me a chicken on a thread the other day for no particular reason I could fathom. Ignored it.

StealthPolarBear · 23/07/2009 11:40

No not that FAQ but if it's someone who is being harrassed in RL then they don't deserve that either.
setsquare seems to have been joining threads just to post something ofensive though - which made mw think she was a troll. Or maybe they're just the oens I've seen.

FAQtothefuture · 23/07/2009 11:42

well yes she could have been harassed in RL - doesn't mean that she can't develop a not so nice on-line persona.

And she HASN'T hidden herself well at all. If she wanted to retain her anonymity she'd have been a lot more subtle that she has been IMO.

slyandgobbo · 23/07/2009 11:44

I don't really feel able to judge this without seeing what the CAT actually said. Sounds like it could just be some frivolity.
Also "chicken" and "poncetastic" don't sound that desperately wounding to me...
