...to think that people who post a picture of their child as their Facebook profile are weird?

I'm not taling about people posting a picture of themselves WITH their children as their Facebook profile picture, nor about people who put pictures of their DC on Facebook. But people who put a picture of their DC (alone) AS their profile picture. Is that not weird? It's as if they had no identity of their own left... And generally: AIBU to think that there's a lot of boasting on Facebook? (as in: look at me, I've got such beautiful children and such an interesting life). Opinions?

yes, you are being unreasonable

FAQinglovely · 17/07/2009 18:09

I have a (now very old ) photo of my 3 DS's as m profile picture

bamboobutton · 17/07/2009 18:13

YABU.

i have a pic of ds as profile pic as i always look shit in photos.

why do you care about peoples profile pics so much anyway?

suwoo · 17/07/2009 18:13

An old school friend has a picture of her DS as her profile picture, but he unexpectedly died last week aged 3. Perhaps she is allowed?

TrillianAstra · 17/07/2009 18:13

YANBU, it's a strange thing to do. Absolutely no use when you're looking for people either. It's supposed to be a picture of you.

smugmumofboys · 17/07/2009 18:14

YABU

My boys are way more photogenic than me.

FAQinglovely · 17/07/2009 18:15

well I look different now from when I was younger anyhow, so if people from the past are looking for me then a recent photo of me is no good to them, anyhow.

And besides - I don't have any photos of myself

MrsMcCluskey · 17/07/2009 18:16

YANBU - it should be a pic of person who's profile it is
I often get friend requests where i maight not recognise the name so look to the photo for help!

MummyDragon · 17/07/2009 18:16

smugmum: how are your old friends going to know it's you if there's a picture of your kids instead of you?

johnthepong · 17/07/2009 18:18

I rarely even let photos be taken of me, never mind have a pic of myself as my profile pic. I am currently waiting for an operation which affects the way I look and affects my self confidence alot. I did have a very old pic of myself but I got bored with it, so now I just have a pic of the kids.

Im sorry I dont meet your facebook expectations

bakerslovecakes · 17/07/2009 18:20

but like FAQ said, people from years ago probably wont recognize you so what does it matter

MommyHasaHeadache · 17/07/2009 18:20

yabu - people can put what they like as their profile picture.

FAQinglovely · 17/07/2009 18:22

and yes I have my own identity - it just doesn't come in the form of a photo of my mug

clemette · 17/07/2009 18:23

I don't really want random people to find me!

IKnowWhoYouAre · 17/07/2009 18:26

You're not the only one who thinks that

MrsM

tbh I don't use fb to catch up with friends I've lost contact with years ago. All of my fb friends, with only two exceptions, are people who I see in rl as well or friends I moved away from when we moved areas 3 years ago.

Besides, I don't have my maiden name on there so people from way back won't find me. I don't want them to. That isn't my reason for using fb.

I have DD as my FB pic specifically that old friends won't see how fat I've got since I had her.

pointydog · 17/07/2009 18:32

The whole point of facebook is 'look at my interesting life and all my friends', no?

harpsichordcarrier · 17/07/2009 18:32

no, it isn't weird.
my children are more attractive than me, by quite a big margin

Overmydeadbody · 17/07/2009 18:33

People can do whatever they like o their own profiles on FB.

Bleatblurt · 17/07/2009 18:33

YABU.

I don't like having my photo taken.

The people I have on my FB are people that I want, not people from 20 years ago that I don't give a fuck about. If they can't find me on Facebook then GOOD.

I'd rather a photo of a cute child than a photo of someone who has clearly gone to huge lengths to hide their double chin/wrinkles/spots - those kinds make me laugh - all pouts and weird head tilts.

nikki1978 · 17/07/2009 18:34

Hmmm I get where you are coming from but I say live and let live. I have changed my facebook pic several times over the 2 years I have had an account. Yes a couple of times it has been my kids (particularly nice pics maybe) but usually it is me. I have found most people I am interesting in contacting anyway and my married name would confuse so I don't care if people can't find me.

Who cares really? I think it is a bit harsh to say having a pic of your kids there means you have no identity of your own left

MumGoneCrazy · 17/07/2009 18:35

YABU

I have a pic of my 3DC as my profile pic
They are much better to look at than me and Dp has a pic of him and DD1
