To be absolutely steaming about the fact that people think unnecessary genital mutilation is OK?

I've been having a debate about this on another site and am staggered by the amount of people who are quite blase about it and can't get worked up about it and seem to think it's perfectly OK, and even perfectly acceptable!!

FFS if you smack a child on the street you risk arrest for assault or abuse yet people are allowed to unnecssarily ritually circumscise male babies without anaesthetic? It beggars belief that this has a place in a so-called enlightened civilised society and can be legal.

I have literally got steam coming out of my ears, some of the exchanges I've had have made my heart literally pound with anger and I think my feelings on this issue might actually make me able to understand how strongly those animal activists feel!!!

I think I need to have a lie down...

lol@ weirdo! Whats weird about not wanting my children to be harmed? Thought that was a pretty normal thing?

junglist1 · 26/06/2009 14:14

And why are you quoting someone else as if I said it, wattless?

posieparker · 26/06/2009 14:14

People that do circumsize their boys do it out of responsibility to culture and/faith are most probably blind to the fact of the matter. If being a follower meant cutting of an ear lobe would people still practice it?

posieparker · 26/06/2009 14:15

People who cannot spell should not post!!!

Circumcise.

junglist1 · 26/06/2009 14:16

And you can fuck right off, too. good parents teach their children to be non judgemental and to have respect. I FEEL SORRY FOR YOUR KIDS

onagar · 26/06/2009 14:16

Btw, if anyone's interested this is a UK site by a GP and a mohel (ritual circumciser)

He makes it clear that babies do feel pain, that many parents don't believe in pain relief, but he offers it as an optional extra.

It would be interesting to know how many take it up.

Oh and about half way down this page describes it being done the traditional way at a party in someone's house.

" First, he solicited the help of a man from the group and instructed him to hold the boy's legs apart and down so they would be out of the way. Another man was asked to hold the boys arms still. The doctor then applied two surgical clamps to either side of the foreskin. It must have hurt a little, because the boy began to cry. From this point forward, they had difficulty keeping the wine soaked guaze in the boy's mouth and had to keep tucking it back in.

By pulling on the clamps the doctor was able to make various measurements of the length of the stretched foreskin and the location of the tip of the glans (the "head" of the penis). The boy was not happy with all this pinching and pulling.

The doctor then produced a device clearly designed specifically for circumcisions. It consisted of two flat plates of stainless steel, approximately 3"x2" and 1/8" thick, hinged at one end so that when closed would create a 3"x4" flat plate. He stretched the foreskin again way out over the glans and locked the large flat clamp in place just beyond the point where the tip of the glans would be (as determined by the measurements taken previously). The clamp was applied on an incline, as viewed from the side sort of like this =\ only on a more pronounced angle.

Although the inside edges of the clamp did not appear to be sharp, the device was so tight that as soon as it was locked in place the boy went from being upset to being hysterical. He turned bright red from head to toe, and the quality of his crying became impossible not to empathize with. Many people looked away, including the parents who both seemed a little faint. By the time the foreskin was removed, the baby was relaxing into a endorphin bathed wailing that sounded much relieved compared to the screaming that had gone before. These people knew it would hurt like hell. There was no delusion here"

Not you Posie, the one at the top.

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 26/06/2009 14:19

LOL at how aggressive you are junglist.

Was I the one at the top? Your description is a bit vague.

junglist1 · 26/06/2009 14:20

So yet again some bitch pretending she hasn't just called me a bad parent. LOL at your thinly veiled insults.

lal123 · 26/06/2009 14:23

well - no one can accues YOU of thinly veiling insults can they?? Jessy peeps!

Is this all part of being non judgemental and having respect?

wattless?

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 26/06/2009 14:24

I haven't called you a bad parent.

I merely made the observation that I believe that as parents, it's not ultimately up to us to judge whether we are good or bad parents - it's up to our children. I don't really know why I should be called a bitch for that - I've always believed it and you are extremely insecure if you believe that to be an attack on you, thinly veiled or otherwise.

You are extremely badly behaved on this thread, calling people bitches, telling them to fuck off and telling them you feel sorry for their children. And then pretending that you are being insulted.

Oh - I'm not complaining about jung reacting! And why would anyone post on here if they didn't want to provoke a reaction? Isn't that the point? To have a debate? To share ideas? To ask people to justify their points of view?

I say it as it is, I don't need to beat around the bush.
And yes I have been called a bad parent by the both of you. That is why I'm "behaving badly". Or do attacks need to be subtle on here in a passive aggressive way?
LIKE I SAID I'M ONLY POLITE UNTIL I'M ATTACKED.

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 26/06/2009 14:28

Oh right, in that case I unreservedly apologise for calling you a bitch junglist and will report my post.

Sorry.

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 26/06/2009 14:29

Oh right, no you did call me a bitch then.

Did you call me a bitch or not?

junglist1 · 26/06/2009 14:30

I WAS DEBATING UNTIL YOU INSINUATED I WAS A BAD PARENT "LOL AT GOOD PARENT"!!!! ARE YOU THICK??????!!!!!!!!

lal123 · 26/06/2009 14:30

where have I been badly behaved? Where have I been passive agressive (what does that mean anyway?) I'd say Jung needs to take a look at herself and why she is so defensive about this all, why she has to resort to swearing and foul language.

junglist1 · 26/06/2009 14:31

Oh God what's going on?!

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 26/06/2009 14:33

I DID NOT CALL YOU A BAD PARENT.

I SAID I BELIEVE THAT IT IS FOR OUR CHILDREN TO SAY IF WE ARE GOOD OR BAD PARENTS.

Where does that imply that YOU are a bad parent? It is an observation in response to your declaration that you are a good parent. I have no idea what kind of parent you are and I don't care. I have always found it amusing when parents say they are good parents, because I don't believe it's up to them to decide. Which doesn't imply that I believe they are bad parents, it's just that I would never declare myself a good parent because I don't think it's my place to decide.

Is that clear enough for you, or will you persist in insisting that that represents a thinly veiled insult?

junglist1 · 26/06/2009 14:33

Because you called me a bad parent, I'll swear if I like. What's wrong with you???!!!! Not you now, little bella, the other one. This is getting too confusing for words now

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 26/06/2009 14:34

Oh now I'm thick as well as a bitch.

May I congratulate you on your robust debating style Junglist?

and yes, that is an insult, though not that veiled.
