To think this is the worse film I have EVER seen?

I think I am still in mild shock.

Had a bit of time to kill yesterday afternoon so thought I'd watch a bit of telly. Blues Brothers 2000 was on. Loved the original and whilst I didnt think this would match it, it did have an impressive cast so thought I would give it a go.

Have you SEEN it It was so bad it sort of mesmerised me. It was like it was started without a script or plot line and they sort of chucked things at it as they went along.

At one point a voodoo queen turned them all into green zombies so they would play crappy pop/jazz fusion. There were also animated skeleton cowboys riding on skeleton cows, a car driving under water for at least a mile (not a special car, just a car), a black policeman levatating through the roof of a revival meeting and turning into the 3rd blues brother on his way down, a car pile up that went on for about 5 minutes long after anyone driving behind the first few cars would have realised something was up and Russian gangsters who turned into rats.

Twas mad. How the hell did they get James Brown and Eric Clapton involved in that?

John Goodman was in it. I am wondering if he produced it. I think he has a history of these vanity projects.

Anyone got it on DVD? I think I need to see it one more time.

So am I right or is there a worse film?

That's because your equations are all wrong ShineOn, Thunderduk, BF.

Lost in Translation = good.
Sideways = Brilliant.

These are your starting points.

Thunderduck · 25/05/2009 18:57

I haven't seen Lost In Translation but Sideways was awful. It was so dull and I'm one who enjoys 'slow' films.

ShineOn, Nevergonnapost told us to get a room.

Looks like our film collection Venn diagrams won't allow us to.

You will still approach our Fight Club/Few Good Men agreement with an open mind, though, won't you?

retiredgoth2 · 25/05/2009 19:01

.....welcome to my world!

In truth, I only found Sideways to be a moderately decent film, but I was struggling to think of an example of a 'quiet' film that I liked using my DVD shelf for inspiration.....

It was Sideways or Goodbye Mr Chips.....

lalalonglegs · 25/05/2009 19:04

Do you think shineon is really Christopher Tookey?

I'm with you goth on the Lost in Translation is sack of shite, Sideways is a great night out equation. Don't back down now!

BanjosFanjo · 25/05/2009 19:05

Now Goodbye Mr Chips is a fantastic film- you are rehabilitated in my eyes if you like that!

"my most hated film... Before Sunset."

Did you hate it more than its prequel, Before Sunrise?

ShineOn, I'm beginning to think you might actually not have a soul. Suckle at the teat of Meatloaf and you might rediscover your sense of romance and indeed, your humanity.

the worst films ever made in my humble opinion were:
love actually. what a pile of utter bollocks

ghost ship. unbelievably bad

jeepers creepers, no comment, is too good for this.

mamma mia, beyond bad.

perfect storm, shit shit shit.

HOWEVER, 8 mile is a excellent film, (nothing of course to do with my love of eminem)!!

retiredgoth2 · 25/05/2009 19:40

....I stand by Sideways. It is a decent film....

....I love Brat Pack films, too. Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller's Day Off are all marvels.

For some reason, though, I cannot bear St Elmo's Fire. The other films all feature poor little rich kids, but in a way that inspires empathy (I KNOW Molly Ringwald is supposed to be poor in Pretty in Pink. But having your own car and phone extension didn't look too deprived to me in 1986...)

...in St Elmo's Fire, however, I am inclined to think 'sod the lot of you! Self indulgent arsewipes...'

It's the difference between John Hughes and Joel Schumacher's direction, methinks....

mrsruffallo · 25/05/2009 19:46

Sideways is a very good film

Breakfast Club?

Dear God yes!

...except perhaps the bit where Ally Sheedy is given a makeover by Molly Ringwald. She is transformed from a perfectly attractive girl into a GMTV presenter for no good reason.....

tribpot · 25/05/2009 19:56

I have to agree with the assessment of BB2000 despite having only seen about 10 minutes. I love the Blues Brothers but I watched a bit of the sequel (having only got it cos it was free when I bought the original DVD) and turned it off. Never again. chegirl, if I can find it I will send it to you.

Molly as the poor girl with her own phone and car - twas the era, wasn't it? I have (repeatedly) watched Jumanji recently and the kids there live in a Tara-style mansion for no apparent reason. I seem to recall Bridget Fonda having a fabbo apartment in Single White Female (marred by the psychopathic tendencies of JJL). Have American films got more 'normal' about living spaces? I don't get to the films very often but I seem to recall the people in Knocked Up lived in relatively believable circumstances?

Breakfast Club. Genius. When we were about 10 and 12 my brother and I used to quote the following to each other daily:

Judd: You wear .. tights?
Emilio: No, I don't wear tights. I wear the required uniform.
Geek: Tights.
Emilio: Shut up!

God we thought that was hilarious. Nearly as good as Can't Buy Me Love or Private Benjamin. I still love Private Benjamin.

BelfastBloke · 25/05/2009 20:01

"the bit where Ally Sheedy is given a makeover by Molly Ringwald."

The most outrageous, disappointing moment in 80s film, surely? Man that pissed me off.

bubbleymummy · 25/05/2009 20:03

Matildax - I agree with you about Jeepers Creepers - words can just not descibe how bad it is.

21 grams - most boring movie ever.

Dumb and Dumberer - cringingly awful

I actually like Love Actually and Notting Hill and Gilbert Grape is a great movie.

Haven't heard the Tom Hanks critics mention Castaway - did that one get your approval?

MrsWeasley · 25/05/2009 20:04

I loved Billy Elliot and most of the brat pack films (pretty in pink, mannequin 2 of my all time fave films) due to a love of Andrew McCarthy

Can't be bothered with Bridget Jones, Love Actually or Notting Hill.

FairLadyRantALot · 25/05/2009 20:05

well, the ones I least enjoyed in no particular order

-Little Children
-Moulin Rouge
-When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth ( I think it was that movie, but can't be 100% sure, because it was a long time ago)

  • Knocked up
-You don't mess with Zohan -Dumb and Dumber

Am I the only one to have loathed Juno?

I haven't seen Juno but I know I'd loathe it from what I know of it. I like indie films but I've heard that it tries too hard to be cool and quirky.
