To think this is the worse film I have EVER seen?

I think I am still in mild shock.

Had a bit of time to kill yesterday afternoon so thought I'd watch a bit of telly. Blues Brothers 2000 was on. Loved the original and whilst I didnt think this would match it, it did have an impressive cast so thought I would give it a go.

Have you SEEN it It was so bad it sort of mesmerised me. It was like it was started without a script or plot line and they sort of chucked things at it as they went along.

At one point a voodoo queen turned them all into green zombies so they would play crappy pop/jazz fusion. There were also animated skeleton cowboys riding on skeleton cows, a car driving under water for at least a mile (not a special car, just a car), a black policeman levatating through the roof of a revival meeting and turning into the 3rd blues brother on his way down, a car pile up that went on for about 5 minutes long after anyone driving behind the first few cars would have realised something was up and Russian gangsters who turned into rats.

Twas mad. How the hell did they get James Brown and Eric Clapton involved in that?

John Goodman was in it. I am wondering if he produced it. I think he has a history of these vanity projects.

Anyone got it on DVD? I think I need to see it one more time.

So am I right or is there a worse film?

Why has nobody mentioned Down with Love, Gigli or Hideous Kinky? All of them truly terrible. And don't get me started on Vanilla Sky.

I quite liked Lost in Translation, but then I have quite often been a trailing spouse. Being on your own in a strange city waiting for your husband to get home from work is not the fun holiday you might imagine it to be.

wiggletastic · 25/05/2009 17:53

Down with Love - aarghh! I thought I had erased that from my memory. Truly, truly awful.

dancingqueeen · 25/05/2009 17:54

Rumour has it, and Mamma Mia, both definitely on my list. not seen Blues Brothers 2000 although enjoyed the orgininal, but based on that description it must be a contender!

Of course I like What's Eating Gilbert Grape. And of course I don't think The Terminal's a good film.

You seem very confused, ShineOn. Strong views, which sometimes go the right way and sometimes don't.

How can we help you?

"for me, a film has to go somewhere."

And yet Lost in Translation doesn't really go anywhere. But that is a film we can agree on. As you say, "Thought provoking". And that's not just Scarlett Johannson's arse in the opening shot of the film.

Just like Gilbert Grape, it has strong intriguing performances in a somewhat unusual setting. Storyline is secondary to the acting and the curiousness. That's why they're both great films.

"You seem like a Tom Hanks kinda guy to me". I've never been so insulted in my life! How can you say that?

Thunderduck · 25/05/2009 18:14

Gilbert Grape is not a bad film.

RnB · 25/05/2009 18:18

I recently saw the Boat That Rocked. It is shockingly terrible

francagoestohollywood · 25/05/2009 18:19

Running on empty is one of my fav movies, but I loathed Lost in translation.

Mouline rouge is another terrible movie, imo

....Lost in Translation is certainly thought provoking.

'What a pile of steaming shite' is an example of a thought provoked by this film.

Thunderduck · 25/05/2009 18:21

Philadelphia is a wonderful film! I love it. You are aptly named Crazydiamond.

BanjosFanjo · 25/05/2009 18:25

Pmsl retiredgoth!

I liked it actually- and I liked that they didn't have a cliché shag either. It was a quiet movie, but they're ok sometimes.

nevergonnapost · 25/05/2009 18:29

shine on and belfast get a room will ya

BelfastBloke · 25/05/2009 18:31

Oh, retiredgoth. You had me at Escape To Victory. You had me at Donnie Darko on the other thread.

Now you've lost me again.

....I like quiet films too, BF.

As long as they engage me.

...Sideways, for example, is a gentle, sad, human and engaging film.

Lost in Translation I just don't 'get'. It starts, dribbles along for a bit and then peters out. I can sort of see what was being attempted, and I applaud the attempt. Plainly it is a noble attempt to create a thoughtful, wistful and intelligent auteur piece.

..it's still rubbish, though.

Thunderduck · 25/05/2009 18:43

I hated Sideways.
