Ok was just talking to my friend and we were discussing baby P and the sentences given to the scum who killed him. My friend said they were fair sentences and I said they were not and that no sentenced served in a prison where they get 3 square meals a day, recreation time where they have games consoles, pool tables, etc, a bed, and everything else is a fair sentence and that scum like that deserve no less than a death sentence.
Now she doesn't agree she thinks that it is unfair to the families of the murderer to suffer...I on the other hand am not of the same mind set....what do you ladies think?

bogwobbit · 22/05/2009 23:48

Well, I don't agree with the death sentence but I do think that for killing a child, they should lock them up and throw away the key. Definitely think the sentences given were far too lenient.

steviesgirl · 22/05/2009 23:48

They deserve to rot in jail - yes - but I'm against the death penalty. It's murder just like any other form imo.

MillyR · 22/05/2009 23:49

I am not that concerned about what happens to them as long as they are not a danger a to anyone and we, as a society are allowed to forget about the fact that they ever existed in the first place in any sense other than as a phenomenon which need to be constructively tackled.

Niftyblue · 22/05/2009 23:50

Don`t agree with the death penalty
They need to live with what they did every single day of there life

I do think they should never ever be released and their life inside be the worst possible

TheLadyEvenstar · 22/05/2009 23:52

But they won't rot in jail. the average life sentence is approx 7 years with time taken off for remand, and good behaviour.

Whatever happened to being hung, drawn and quartered??

Niftyblue · 22/05/2009 23:54

But with the death penalty they escape far to easy with it

I want them to live with it and suffer for it

But LIFE SHOULD MEAN LIFE

NearlyWelsh · 22/05/2009 23:56

I was shocked at the short sentance in this case but I dont agree with the death penalty

This is my next door neighbour singing one of her fab songs

Tracey Curtis - The Death Penalty Olympics

Temporary name change for me so I can shamelessly publicise how fab her songs are

steviesgirl · 22/05/2009 23:56

They need to enforce far tougher sentences for these monsters. My cousin was murdered at the age of 16 by a so-called friend. His friend was sentenced to 4 years for manslaughter! he was out in 2!!

scottishmummy · 22/05/2009 23:57

a liberal society measures itself by how it deals with dysfunction

so what?hang em flog em -dont think so

they all committed abhorrent crimes against a vulnerable child.appaling in its brutality

MillyR · 22/05/2009 23:58

They have been given indefinite sentences. They are in prison indefinitely, not for 7 years. It is not the same as a life sentence. There is no automatic date of release, which there would have been had they been given the maximum sentence. Not giving the maximum sentence means there is more control over lengthening the time spent in prison.

Plonker · 22/05/2009 23:58

Although I understand your sentiment, I'm afraid I really strongly disagree with the death penalty.

Take someone's life, for taking someone's life just isn't right IMHumbleO. It doesn't make anything right ...and what about those who are wrongly accused? No. Death Penalty isn't good.

I do, however, wholeheartedly agree that the 'sentence' given to killers is disgraceful

Life, should mean life. These low-life scum should never see the light of another day. There should be no priviliges and they should never be released. All JMHumbleO of course.

TheLadyEvenstar · 23/05/2009 00:00

See I must be shallow and callous because I would like to see them suffer the same inflictions as baby Peter, each and every injury he suffered I would like to see them suffer too.

OP posts:
Plonker · 23/05/2009 00:00

Wasn't referring to Baby P with the wrongly accused btw ...

underpaidandoverworked · 23/05/2009 00:00

They'll get out in a few years after good behaviour, be given new identities..... will probably have babies in the future. Agree with judge's comments today. Nothing can bring that poor baby back - sorry, but apologies from the 'mother' yesterday just angered me more. How dare she apologise now when she sat back and let that happen - no excuses for that.

Am a cm and can't believe the number of people who witnessed the abuse this child suffered and didn't do anything about it....

EyeballsisonaDietAgain · 23/05/2009 00:01

If one of these twisted creatures was a member of my family I sure as hell wouldn't be grieving for them if the death penalty was brought back. I don't agree with the death penalty but the idea of their families grieving for them is a bit rich. They'd be dead to me the minute they laid a hand on those children.

MillyR · 23/05/2009 00:01

I don't understand why anyone would enjoy watching or causing another human, or animal for that matter, suffer. I don't understand them and I don't understand you.

It is wholly alien to me.

underpaidandoverworked · 23/05/2009 00:05

Milly, it was on the news tonight 'indefinite' means mum could be out in 3 yrs [minimum 5years] and other party in 12 years. What the f..k is going on with our justice system

TheLadyEvenstar · 23/05/2009 00:07

Milly, can I just ask have you ever personally experienced a serious crime? if not thank god
I on the other hand have and would not "enjoy" watching anyone suffer however I would like to see the criminals suffer what they put their victims through.

OP posts:
MillyR · 23/05/2009 00:08

Yes, could be, but that doesn't mean she will be. The indefinite sentence was brought in exactly to deal with cases like these, where there is strong public feeling that the person should not be released. Release will be at discretion of parole board, unlike a maximum sentence where they would have to be released after 7 years, whatever people think.

cory · 23/05/2009 00:08

The problem is that societies with barbaric punishments also tend to have higher levels of barbaric crimes. The two go together.

And from what I have heard, not all prisons are all that comfortable either. Not to mention the fact that there are other prisoners in there...

LaurieFairyCake · 23/05/2009 00:08

Also don't agree with the death sentence.

I also have no idea what kind of life that woman had or if she was an addict.

Hopefully she will get rehabilitated.

beanieb · 23/05/2009 00:09

I think it's unfair to give anyone an undetermined sentence. They should at least know how long they will be expected to stay in prison.

TheLadyEvenstar · 23/05/2009 00:11

And hopefully sterilised and barred from ever stepping foot near another child in her sad sorry life.
