to feel unsettled about this teacher and pornography?

I'm a regular but I've name changed because I don't immediately want the school to be identified.
On a school trip, the son of my dd's teacher had degrading porno pics on his moblie. Another boy asked where he'd got them from, and he said- "They're my Dad's, he has a pile of mags and I photoed them".
This is hearsay- passed on by another boy to his Mum.
The teacher in question was my 10/11 year old dd's teacher, a small class with pre pubescant girls.
Another Mum said it was a free world and he's entitled to look at porn, which I agree with, but it still makes me feel uncomfortable.

The boy may have been fibbing.

The teacher's wife taught at the school too, and he sometimes put her down in front of people too, which I didn't like atall at the time.

Now I'm interpreting things in a different way of course.

How would you react?

Our dd has left now anyway, but it bothered me at the time.

It is inappropriate for the man, whether he is a teacher or not, to have a stash of porn which is accessible by his children. I do think you're being unreasonable in a way, because it sounds like you're implying that because this man looked at porn, he's also likely to be interested in children.

Tamarto · 13/05/2009 18:21

Looking at porn does not a pedophile make

lljkk · 13/05/2009 18:23

So
The boy who said his dad had porno mags, may have been lying
The boy who told his mum that he saw these images --may have been exagerating. And we only have his descriptions to go by in deciding what is degrading or just sexual.
And the mum of the boy who says he saw them, may have exagerated or misinterpretted.

It's all too tenuous for me to have opinions at all.

cameraobscura · 13/05/2009 18:24

Well, no, I feel bad for feeling uncomfortable about it.
And it did make me think that he may look at these girls differently I suppose.
But obviously it doesn't make him a paedo.
It just made me wonder.

cameraobscura · 13/05/2009 18:25

They could have been the boys porno mags.

Tamarto · 13/05/2009 18:26

"And it did make me think that he may look at these girls differently I suppose.
But obviously it doesn't make him a paedo."

But you must think it does or you wouldn't think he looked at young girls differently.

oldspotraver · 13/05/2009 18:28

Why would he look at these girls 'differently' if he HAD been looking at porn ?? Was the porn pre-pubescent ??

Agree with Tidey in that he should not make it easy access for his son. He needs tipping of for this though

BitOfFun · 13/05/2009 18:30

Would you think the same if it was some random dad of your son's friends? Teachers are normal people, some of whom will have a stash of pornos and may/may not be nice people. I would lighten up if I were you.

TheCrackFox · 13/05/2009 18:31

Hmm, 3rd hand gossip about a teacher. I would be inclined not to believe it.

branflake81 · 13/05/2009 18:34

er - is this for real?

Even if he did have porn on his phone (which in itself I find hard to believe, why would the kids know what was on his phone?) it certainly does NOT make him a peadophile. That is a very extreme allegation and one that should not be banded about lightly.

lowenergylightbulb · 13/05/2009 18:36

I'm a teacher and I've got some 'erotic' literature in my bedroom, and I have watched the occasional mucky film.

I can assure you that I'm not a paedophile and I don't look at the teen boys I used to teach any differently.

Sheeeeeeesh.

spicemonster · 13/05/2009 18:40

branflake - the kid found his dad's porn stash and photographed it.

I don't think you can blame anyone for their children finding their stash either - my sister and I used to ransack the house when my parents went out

TheLadyEvenstar · 13/05/2009 18:48

LOL spice, don't all kids?

DS1 managed to guess the password to my laptop a few years back and errr well I changed it very very quickly!!

I think I do realise I'm being unreasonable about it.
But it did make me, as a human being, think about him differently.
Also, my judgement was probably clouded by the fact that I saw him out his wife down quite a bit, and I didn't like him anyway.

So, maybe everyone's right- I'm being unreasonable about the porn.
Thanks for opinions

Branflake- the boy had the pics and said he'd taken them of his Dad's stash.

"put his wife down" - not "out " his wife.
Doh

mind your own beeswax

bloody busybody

spicemonster · 13/05/2009 18:55

Do they lady E? That's comforting. I don't think it's anything I've ever discussed before with anyone

I'm going to have to put a secret trapdoor in the floor I reckon

cameraobscura · 13/05/2009 18:56

I'm really amazed at these reactions though.

Thanks anyfucker.

AnyFucker · 13/05/2009 18:57

you are welcome

wotulookinat · 13/05/2009 18:58

Any parent needs to keep porn out of view of kids. Just because this fully grown man is a teacher doesn't mean that he can't enjoyporn like any other adult.

cameraobscura · 13/05/2009 19:00

And- I haven't even mentioned the word paedophile either.
I saw it as degrading to women.
I put together in my mind a man who put down his wife in public, and a man who looked at bimbos on all fours.

OP posts:
cameraobscura · 13/05/2009 19:01

wotulooinat, that's one point about it yes.

Tamarto · 13/05/2009 19:02

"But it did make me, as a human being, think about him differently."

I can't speak for the rest but I'm human too, but still very very baffled by your thought process.
