Probably Miss Judgey pants here. But surely if he's capably feeding himself with a spoon, it shouldn't be a crappy jar of baby food! And on a bus while mum talking on her mobile phone!

Guessing he was a bout 20 months as older than my ds but prob not 2. Was a bit shocked at the self feeding on the bus,and crap nature of it....

....flame away.....
I'm ready for it..

not sure about the whole interaction - or where that came from - just keep an eye on you son feeding himself on a bus while you chat to your phone provider!

My DD1 (almost 11) is eating supanoodles. On a par with pasta and ketchup I think.

but why not let them hold the spoon? DS3 wants to hold the spoon (or for dinner the fork - and sometimes he tries a knife too) - he's happy, he's doing the same as his older brothers.

And my god you must have wierd children who at just under 2 would be distracted by something in their other hand - all 3 of my DS's (DS1 and 2 were still being spoon fed long past 2yrs old ) would throw whatever it was in the floor and throw a strop at that/this age.

You obviously haven't discovered the delights of being able to sit down for a family meal and not having your food cold because it goes cold as you feed a toddler that (as the OP said) is capable of doing it themselves.

DSM · 23/03/2009 18:57

tomanykidstoname

You are lucky if it all worked out so well for you. Some children aren't that easily distracted by holding something in their hand though, so whilst it might work for you, it certainly won't work for everyone.

Also, could you possibly refrain from the text speak? Many posters, including myself, find it very hard to read.

Casserole · 23/03/2009 18:57

What oh what is BLW? I'm such a crap Mum I don't even know the acronyms so I'm almost certainly going to fall short of the OPer's standards.

What a load of bollocks to get all upset about. Is it the eating on the bus? Is it the mother not talking to the child whilst he ate? Is it the child feeding himself? Is it the brand of jar you objected to (and if so, do tell, so we can all restock appropriately)? Is it jars fullstop?

Or is it just that you've got a stick up your arse?

A,B,C or D, all vote now...

oh Riven - I'm going to be chuckling at that image all night I just had to go back and read it again just for the hell of it.

tomanykidstoname · 23/03/2009 18:59

i didn't say my children never feed themselves just not on moving transport

StealthPolarBear · 23/03/2009 18:59

A small judgy part of me (OK, I admit it, no part of me is small at the moment) was agreeing with you, then I thought, but this is one incident. What is for every other meal they have salmon en croute and sauteed baby vegetables? What if she's shuddering at home on MN now, thinking of the judging that went on on that bus?!

Reality

I like your menus.

MillyR · 23/03/2009 19:00

I was totally unaware any of this was an issue.

Why is it an issue?

DSM · 23/03/2009 19:00

I would really love to know what this mother looked like.

Like I said before, one can presume she wasn't a boden-clad, Guardian reading 40 year old.

Oh, and tomanykidstoname, it actually should be toomanykidstoname.

Sorry, pedant.

pispirispis · 23/03/2009 19:00

Lol, I'm now thinking about what some of the other passengers must have thought about my 11mo dd trying to push her entire sandwich into her mouth on the bus! And then she was smiling and saying "bababa" at one of the passengers with it all shoved into her mouth and until bits fell out - lovely! I'm sure she was shocked!

To be fair I did think about choking but the bus wasn't moving that much at all, and it was either that or everyone put up with poor starving dd's screams. And she didn't have indigestion afterwards at all - was in bed a couple of hours later after a big bottle very happy and tired after a lovely day.

Anyway, not something I would do every day, but I think it's VU to judge someone for something like this.

FAQinglovely · 23/03/2009 19:00

yes - text speak isn't good on here - not just because it's crap - but because there is at least one poster (probably many more) who use screen readers to "read" the text for them.

Screen readers (afaik) are not set up to understand text speak so you are automatically alienating them from the thread.

tomanykidstoname · 23/03/2009 19:01

its not the meal that bothers me its the fact that he was left to his own devices to eat it while she made an unimportant phone call
