Probably Miss Judgey pants here. But surely if he's capably feeding himself with a spoon, it shouldn't be a crappy jar of baby food! And on a bus while mum talking on her mobile phone!

Guessing he was a bout 20 months as older than my ds but prob not 2. Was a bit shocked at the self feeding on the bus,and crap nature of it....

....flame away.....
I'm ready for it..

Hi All, Hi che glad it went OK.

I am sorry, I will not be able to apply myself to this thread for v. long, as Mistresses is on tonight, and much as I hate the fucker, I can't seem to stop watching it (I think I keep having to check which character I hate the most)

chegirl · 24/03/2009 20:26

Riven Some of our kids get longer than 6 mths. There is a rather complicated criteria. Its all down to waiting lists. They seem to be huge . My DS2 missed out on portage because he was a looked after child (in care) when he was first with us. By the time we adopted him my DD was ill and it was far too complicated. I think he would have really benefited. I am going to make it my mission to make sure kids in care dont miss out on this service (well I will give it a few weeks first

Grumpy thank you. I was in admin for ages although in quite interesting organisations. I am not a natural administrator however, having an extreamly low boredom threshold . I reckon I am best off out of it.

I got well into knitting when DD was ill. I made about a squillion scarves, dolls and teeny tiny egg cup sized hats for the babies in special care.

chegirl · 24/03/2009 20:29

Thanks screaming. I will have to log off because I am knackered from my gruelling day (9.20 - 2.30). I am such a bleedin lightweight these days!

pamelat · 24/03/2009 20:55

crikey, haven't read all of this.
I consider myself quite "precious" about DD but am clearly not!!
She has a jar of baby food once a week (normally at Friday tea time so that we can meet our friends for an after work drink for an hour). She can feed herself (14 months) but is messy with it so would not let her do it on a bus, but I genuinely dont see what is wrong with it??????
Appreciate its not the "ideal" image but its hardly neglectful or wrong. Its actually a very effective way of going about your day!

glastocat · 24/03/2009 23:11

Can I just say......DEAN!

Seriously though, WTF? Its baby food, not cold poison.

CottageChicken · 24/03/2009 23:54

Whew!!!!

I have read the whole thread and can I just offer some of what I'm sure tomany was about to offer as proof.......

There was an episode of Grey's Anatomy about getting pregnant whilst already being pregnant.

FairLadyRantALot · 25/03/2009 00:01

hmm....maybe the baby food jar was the only food the mum had with her, or the kiddo likes it....kid fed themselves, so, that surely is brilliant....can't really think why this is such a terrible thing....not saying it is ideal....
would you have ben so judge if it was a banana said child ate independently???

When dcs were little, we used to travel a lot- we took dd to Berlin on the train and travelled across Sweden on the coach. Baby jars were a godsend.
Bananas are terribly hard on upholstery.

Gateau · 25/03/2009 10:28

What a snob you sound, OP.
I suppose if it had been a jar of "Plum" baby food, you wouldn't have batted an eyelid.
How did you earn the almighty position to judge others? Get a life, love.

minesacheeseandpicklesandwich · 25/03/2009 19:47

Cottage Chicken I'd love to know what that plot line was...

blossomsmine · 26/03/2009 14:42

I just don't get how anyone thinks they have a right or would even want to make comments on someone elses life and how they live it Ok, if it was something life threatening etc., etc., then maybe, but its a jar of bloody baby food, get a life op.

SarahL2 · 26/03/2009 15:02

While walking through the city center last week I saw a small child (maybe 3) in a pushchair with a packet of candy sticks - the ones they used to put in little cigarette type packets when I was little. They even had red ends...

It wasn't that she was eating these that bothered me, it was the fact she was holding and sucking on them as if they were real Marlborough Lights!!

I wish my DS would feed himself (he's 2 and just not interested - "Mummy doit") but never would I want him to imitate such an awful habit!

MsSpentYouth · 27/03/2009 09:44

Did anybody get to speak to the people that were going to meet up with tomany?

I hope they are ok [worried]

CherryChoc · 27/03/2009 10:43

Sarah we used to do that! My Uncle used to get really annoyed by it as well and we couldn't understand why. This was when everyone smoked around children though.

Highlander · 27/03/2009 11:00

For the first time in my life (I think), I saw a toddler in the park eating a Gregg's sausage roll. I nearly went up to the dad to shout 'I thought that was a mere MN myth!'.

No Highlander - a Greggs sausage roll and a FruitShoot is the MN myth.

I too don't get the food snobbery. And I have the descency to not make sniddey judgments on a forum when the mother concerned has no way of defending herself.

I give jar food to my baby because when I goto all that trouble to give her our food mashed up for her convenience she rejects it. So I'd rather not waste food or let her stave.

borderslass · 11/01/2011 12:03

Stella this thread is nearly 2 years old.

StellaRose11 · 11/01/2011 12:16

There's no harm in it is there?

NorwegianMoon · 11/01/2011 12:21

my daugther is only slighty older than that. she will not take food from anyone, she has to feed herself. i presume it was in a jar so it didnt go everywhere. child was allowed to feed itself to encourage (cant think of the right world, wel go with responsibilty, ability to feed itself hand eye coordination etc). mum took this brief min while child was occupied to use the phone.

whats wrong with this picture? a child of that age shouldnt need to be spoon fed any more, would have rather child was eating off a plate on the bus? if child was happy and mum took the opportunity to get soemthing done id say shes doing a good job.

maybe she only gives child food in jar for this circumstance, or maybe child had been ill and this was an easy choice?

TandB · 11/01/2011 13:28

Oh ffs. Got six pages in before realising the thread was o old that most of the original posters have probably died of old age.
