to be shocked at 20 month old sitting in a pram feeding himself a jar of baby food on a bus?

Probably Miss Judgey pants here. But surely if he's capably feeding himself with a spoon, it shouldn't be a crappy jar of baby food! And on a bus while mum talking on her mobile phone!

Guessing he was a bout 20 months as older than my ds but prob not 2. Was a bit shocked at the self feeding on the bus,and crap nature of it....

....flame away.....
I'm ready for it..

would fair trade organic made in a commune by artisans food have been preferable?

My 11mo dd had her tea on the bus home last Friday! Does that make me a crap mum then? We do BLW, does that make it any better? She fed herself the rest of her bean and cheese sandwich, cooked green beans and carrots and some grapes in her pram... and now I come to think of it I texted a friend, but I was facing my dd and watching her. We had had a lovely and rare day out which she really enjoyed, and she would have been very cross and starving if I'd waited until we got home to feed her.

First time it had ever happened and every other day we eat together. I think YABU, children often end up eating in all sorts of places and situations - otherwise you'd never get out of the house, especially if you use the bus and not a car!

CrushWithEyeliner · 23/03/2009 18:43

Oh come on it's not abuse but you have to admit it's awful to eat a meal on moving transport, you don't digest properly and it just isn't nice for babies that young to eat on the go like that with no help or interaction sorry it's not. This is not a 3 yo.

Blimwy At this age I fed ds jars while he was on buses, in his pushchair at bus-stops, in the car - wherever really,

Basicallty ds never slept while out so I tended to make sure we were home for mpst of his naps. If I stayed home for his food as well I'd have never left the house or been able to do anything. I prioritised sleep at home over eatiing at home.

Another of my friends prioritised eating at hime and her ds slept on the go. Neither of us judged the other we just had different children and different priorities.

I remember one occasion when I had a half day off. I took ds to a morning toddler group, then I had to get him to his cm on the bus before going to work.

He was due a nap at the cm and would have arrived with her too late to have lunch and have a nap before she had to go on the school run so I fed him lunch on the go as there wasn't time to go home for lumch.

He went straight to sleep when he got to the cm and all was well. I used a jar because he wouldn't eat sandwiches at that age much and I didn't want to keep food for him in my bag on a warm morning so I figured a jar was safer and more hygienic.

You have no idea why she fed him a jar or how often she did it and anyway even if she did this every day I wouldn't think it made her a bad parent personally.

yabvu

pispirispis · 23/03/2009 18:47

Ok well I'm not a fan of jars myself obviously, but they are produced to very high food safety standards and are made of fruit/veg/whatever and so are a damn site better as an emergency meal than a lot of other possibilities like chocolate biscuits or crisps. Maybe the mum keeps one in her bag as an emergency meal? Imagine if it had been a battered sausage supper and can of coke! YABU.

ScottishMummy · 23/03/2009 18:48

it wouldnt occur to me to have the hump about this.hey ho whatever floats your boat

JustCallMeGoat · 23/03/2009 18:48

tomanykidstoname · 23/03/2009 18:48

FAQinglovely · 23/03/2009 18:48

CWE - so what was she supposed to have done? Let him scream because he was hungry???

ScottishMummy · 23/03/2009 18:49

LOL a battered sausage supper.that would have been a head turner

psychomum5 · 23/03/2009 18:49

just out of interest..............if same child was screaming blue bloody murder, because he was hungry, but the mum would not feed him even a small snack, like a jar or something similar, would you be just as judgy???

DSM · 23/03/2009 18:49

Clearly some people have nothing else to worry about than shit like this. You are very lucky to have so little pressing on your mind that you would even notice, never mind care so much.

FAQinglovely · 23/03/2009 18:50

well toomany - then you've obviously never had a child of that age that WON'T LET YOU hold the spoon for them.

tomanykidstoname · 23/03/2009 18:50

no but putting off a phone call so she could feed her son wouldnt have gone a miss wat did we all do b4 mobiles we had time to interact with our kids while we were out cuz we couldnt be contacted 24/7

Ronaldinhio · 23/03/2009 18:50

any chance we could have less text speak
I'm so old I am genuinely puzzled by it

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 23/03/2009 18:51

'it's not abuse but you have to admit it's awful to eat a meal on moving transport'

FFS get a grip! This thread has made me laugh and fume in equal measures.

Northernlurker · 23/03/2009 18:51

justneedsome sleep - are you for real?

You saw a snapshot of this mother's life and you're up on your high horse about it?

This woman has done nothing wrong, from what you say her child is nourished, happy and developing well. Just where exactly do you get the idea that it's ok to go around criticising this sort of thing. This post is right up there with the worst nappy change ever thread!

Just try packing up your judgey bags for a holiday!

AitchTwoOh · 23/03/2009 18:51

i would probably have beenshocked as it'san ubusual sight, but the would have reasoned that it's effectively a cold soup. gazpacho, anyone?
