Ok I know this isnt really an AIBU topic but I wanted an answer before I went to bed.

Is it ok for me to change my name to something very similar to somebody else?

So say someone on here is called chloesmummy- dont know if they are I just made that up- would I be able to join under the name of chloemummy or chloesmum?

I dont want to jump the gun here but have seen somebody who I think is same person with conflicting life stories.. Just wanted to check really.

Some people would get upset about that, I can understand why because other MNers would confuse you both. It's not advisable. Since you know someone on MN already has that name I don't understand why you wouldn't just pluck a brand new name out of the sky. Hungryhorse is a great name!

I don't see why it would be a problem though. Most people don't mind at all when people front up with a slightly similar name.

I've seen convos on here where people have expressly said that it irritated them to see a newcomer using a name like yours.

As Reality said, you can do what you like, of course you can. The choice is yours, but don't be surprised if that somebody gets a bit sniffy.

The OP thought it might be confusing if people were allowed to have very similar names. So she wondered if it was allowed. I think it probably is.

Ok say everyone knew someone on here called harrysdaddy and would talk to him. Then there is a post by harrysdad and harrydaddy talking about something serious and affecting a lot of people.... and people are responding to these threads referring to the poster as harrysdaddy, not harrydad or harrydaddy?
