Ok I know this isnt really an AIBU topic but I wanted an answer before I went to bed.

Is it ok for me to change my name to something very similar to somebody else?

So say someone on here is called chloesmummy- dont know if they are I just made that up- would I be able to join under the name of chloemummy or chloesmum?

I dont want to jump the gun here but have seen somebody who I think is same person with conflicting life stories.. Just wanted to check really.

Look...we need actual posting names so we can help you figure this out.

hungryhorse · 03/03/2009 23:17

I think they are the same person, and from the replies to these people or person's ?!?! thread, so does everyone else on MN.

Basically either everyone is mistaken and the original harrysdaddy has nothing to do with this,

or harrysdaddy is a nutter!

OP posts:
Spartycus · 03/03/2009 23:17

No, I'm Spartacus.

HungryPony · 03/03/2009 23:17

Yeah but Hungryhorse wants to know if the person she knows is a nutter or not.

Actually I don't think harrysdaddy and harysdad are the same person in RL.

Quattrocento · 03/03/2009 23:18

Well someone is a loon, that's for sure. It's not me though.

Spartycus · 03/03/2009 23:19

I am so confused that I fear I can be of little help. Point us to the thread Hungryhorse.

hungryhorse · 03/03/2009 23:20

I know but I cant tell you because the person is talking about something very personal and sad and if I accuse them of making it all up- I think they'd be extremely angry and upset.

I only noticed this because I was searching for posts by this harrysdaddy as I worked out I knew the person...

Then all these threads appeared about something that I know for a fact hasnt happened... but when I looked closely these posts were by harrysdad and harrydaddy, but people were replying calling him harrysdaddy.

OP posts:
TheFallenMadonna · 03/03/2009 23:21

Are the posters in question actually variations on a theme of harrysdaddy?
Never heard of him.

beanieb · 03/03/2009 23:22

is it a current thread?

Spartycus · 03/03/2009 23:23

I would leave it if I were you Hungryhorse. It is actually considered bad MNetiquette to go tracking down people you know in RL.

HungryPony · 03/03/2009 23:25

Just becuase it is a sensitive subject doesn't mean you can't tell us. We are not going to go and beat harrysdad up.

How can we tell you if they are 1 or 2 people if you don't tell us who you are on about?

drlove8 · 03/03/2009 23:25

i think i get it.... but then mabey i dont. there is a poster called needmorecoffee- (shes very nice btw), and theres another poster called needcoffee( who is also very nice) simmilar names, different people? am i right?

HungryPony · 03/03/2009 23:26

Well...that makes sence.

Spartycus · 03/03/2009 23:26

If that is who you mean, I don't think people think they are the same person.

hungryhorse · 03/03/2009 23:27

No harrysdaddy is not the actual name- but the variations are the same.

Its not a current thread no.

Let me give you an example:

Ok I am harrysdaddy- a MN regular who posts frequently. Then suddenly there are posts from harrysdad and harrydaddy saying oh dear help me I've beeen made redundant and have no money.

Then everyone else is replying to dear harrysdaddy we are so sorry we are praying for you I couldnt sleep last night thinking about you.

Ok So I can see that if harrydaddy and harrysdad are meant to be harrysdaddy, then he is a fruitcake.
But on the other hand, if they are not the same person, most other MNetters are under the impression that they are.

OP posts:
drlove8 · 03/03/2009 23:28

i should also say that coffee and coffee are nothing to do with this, just same thing with names, ......good grief... i've confused myself now!

HungryPony · 03/03/2009 23:30

I've decided hungryhorse and needcoffee are best friends.

Unless you are going to name names I off.

Clip clop clip clop

Spartycus · 03/03/2009 23:31

Can I hitch a ride?

hungryhorse · 03/03/2009 23:32

Im not tracking anything down, she gave personal info and when I clicked on her profile pics I realised I knew her in RL.

So then I searched for her other posts- as the one I was reading was a bit neurotic...

and all these threads come up about something terrible happening which I know isnt true.

I know no-one else can tell me here if they are the same people or not.

More like- If I suddenly changed my name to needlesscoffee and people were saying oh hi needmorecoffee I am so sorry for you-

wouldnt I or others say "no, no you are mistaken... this isnt needmorecoffee this is needlesscoffee they are 2 seperate people".

Because nobody has done this- it seems as if the person has been deceitful.

OP posts:
ToiletRollCover · 03/03/2009 23:35

I'm now totally confused!!! Gah

Horsewithnoname · 03/03/2009 23:35

I think the thing you need to ask yourself is whether this deception - if deception it is - is harming anyone. In other words, do you need to do anything about it?
If so, you should report it to MN and let them sort it out. If not, then let it go. If it is someone you know well in RL, then maybe they are in need of some support.

hungryhorse · 03/03/2009 23:39

What Im saying is....

As harrysdad and harrydaddy didnt turn around and say- oh no please dont get me confused with harrysdaddy as i wouldnt wish this terribly bad thing to happen to anyone else...

Nor did any of the many hundreds or posts replying make the distinction-

I have assumed that harrydaddy and harrysdad meant for ppl to assume he was harrysdaddy.

There are new threads started looking for harrysdaddy saying hope you are ok etc... but harrysdaddy is not haarydaddy or harrysdad who the terrible thing has happened to.

OP posts:
hungryhorse · 03/03/2009 23:41

I think if it is deception then yes it is harming people as people have been praying for and losing sleep over this person.

But it might just be a mix up.

If I report it to MN is there a way that they can find out?

OP posts:
Horsewithnoname · 03/03/2009 23:42

I think I would report it and let them sort it out. They have their methods...

HungryPony · 03/03/2009 23:42

But if the threads came up when you searched the name....the name must be identical, non?

If you search hungrypony, you won't find posts by hungrypo.
