Ok I know this isnt really an AIBU topic but I wanted an answer before I went to bed.

Is it ok for me to change my name to something very similar to somebody else?

So say someone on here is called chloesmummy- dont know if they are I just made that up- would I be able to join under the name of chloemummy or chloesmum?

I dont want to jump the gun here but have seen somebody who I think is same person with conflicting life stories.. Just wanted to check really.

Im not a troll- but Im diging myself a deeper hole and drawing even more attention to me.

If I could delete all my posts- or at leasts threads Ive started- then the person who Im accusing will not know who I am- right?

Can I do this?

Horsewithnoname · 04/03/2009 00:20

No, you could ask MN to delete them, or you could just change your name and start afresh.

starvingdonkey · 04/03/2009 00:30

yes, I know for a fact it's allowed

famishedass · 04/03/2009 00:32

It's allowed, but only if it's not for malicious purposes.

FuckingRavenousZebra · 04/03/2009 00:35

drlove8 · 04/03/2009 00:37

I haven't got a clue what is going on.

Wallace · 04/03/2009 06:56

I understand what you mean completely. Don't name names. It could easily be different people (or it could be the same person a bit screwed up)

I get what you mean - I think...

So someone is posting as HarryDaddy and HarrysDad and telling a sad story. And you don't know if they are HarrysDaddy making it up, or if they are other posters using the name on purpose to try and make people think it is HarrysDaddy? Am I right?

Anyway, it could be the same person making things up under other names.

Or it could be other posters trying to decieve.

Or it could be that as Harry is a v popular baby name, and variations on 'dad of harry' are fairly popular MN names (dunno why but hey), that its just a coincidence and they are all different unimaginative posters.

So basically you are friends in RL with someone. They post on here under the name 'HarrysDaddy'.

There is another poster on here called 'HarrysDad' who has been posting threads about being made redundant and everyone is feeling sad for him.
Some of the people feeling sad for him are referring to him as 'HarrysDaddy'

You are wondering whether your friend 'HarrysDaddy' is making up stories about being made redundant and using a slightly similar name to do this.
OR if
'HarrysDad' is a completely different person and has actually been made redundant and other people replying are just mistakenly calling him the wrong name in their replies.

I think that the second one is more likely tbh and it is probably all innocent.
IF your friend was going to make up a story for sympathy then either they would name change to a completely different name so they couldnt be identified in RL or they would just keep their usual name if they thought no one knew them on here.
It would be absolutely pointless to use a very similar name!

Mooooooooorrrning!

ChippingIn · 04/03/2009 09:07

I agree with 2.4 kids.

Probably some people are replying as though it's HarrysDaddy as the OP and think they 'know' him... but it's not the OP's fault (and probably wouldn't realise anyway) and it's not the posters fault for not noticing such a small change in the posting name.

So, if 'HarrysDaddy' is a nice person it's probably got nothing to do with them and I'd stop worrying about it if I were you!

I think i worked out who you mean, have checked the threads and can see where the confusions is. Did the sad "incident" happen in sep/oct 08?

nomoreamover · 04/03/2009 10:01

God I am confuddled - LOL timorous for tracking it down!

I got lost halfway down the thread and lost the will to live!!!!

georgimama · 04/03/2009 10:06

Does anyone else think that the OP and the thread title bear no relationship to each other? Could someone explain in words of one syllable what the OP is talking about - hopefully without the not very elucidating "Harrysdad" "Harrydad" "Harrysdady" type posts.

If it helps, there's a georgimum who posts here. She isn't me. We often have similar opinions though and sometimes post on the same threads. The only people who seem to find it confusing are us.
