i am not talking about shouting things in public

nor have i ever

independiente · 17/02/2009 21:36

Yes, but Iago who talks about the 'beast with two backs' says it in what was then shockingly lewd language, in order to enrage Desdemona's father. ( I loved 'Othello'!) There was no 'connotation' about it. You're right - it was like saying 'fuck' now - no other character in that play would have been given a line like that. You wouldn't have wanted your son to shout it to a woman, and a woman probably would not have been thrilled to hear it about herself...

RiaParkinson · 17/02/2009 21:37

i am being castigated for something i have not said

independiente · 17/02/2009 21:41

Sorry if I misunderstood you Ria, but I thought you had said that posters who had sided with YABU were taking it the wrong way - 'it' being the shouting of MILF by teenage boys to a woman. Have I misunderstood? Am confused...

Stitchwort · 17/02/2009 21:42

Just makes me think would I like DS to act like this when he is teenager - errrrr NO!

independiente · 17/02/2009 21:42

Ria, I really am not into the business of castigating, honestly! Just genuinely trying to follow your line of discussion, because I'm interested in it.

Remotew · 17/02/2009 21:45

I was walking around Manchester one night and had this comment off a teenage boy about 15, he came close to grabbing me. If he had I probably wouldn't have reported it. I would have if he'd been a grown man and grabbed me.

I wasn't flattered and just thought he was showing off in front of his mates.

Not all teenage boys act like this just some very bored/drunk ones.

RiaParkinson · 17/02/2009 21:47

there is a differential between 'shouting' and saying something in private i agree

one is aggressive and demeaning also threatening imo

however

talking about the opposite sex is part of life - living ...

i will never stop doing this with my friends

my sons friends do the same

different language - different generation

Rhubarb · 17/02/2009 21:49

Would anyone like to see a boy who has a thumb for a head? here

boogiewoogie · 17/02/2009 21:49

I've read enough of this thread to just add my 2 pence worth...

As much as I loathe that term, I don't think that calling the OP names and the constant berating is helping. She simply said that she saw it as a compliment because she was noticed and not because she thought "wow, I'm super sexy to horny adolescent boys". Fine. Personally, I would have felt embarrassed especially if this was said in front of my dcs.

So what I'm trying to say is, no of course it's not unreasonable to be secretly pleased that one has been noticed. On the other hand, I do believe that there are better ways of paying a compliment and I personally didn't like it when I was told "She's fit for a teacher etc.." But each to their own....

PARP

cornsilk · 17/02/2009 21:50

Most posters who found the term offensive didn't call the OP names.

Rhubarb · 17/02/2009 21:50

And this boy is obv 'thinking' MILF but is far too polite to shout it out.

RiaParkinson · 17/02/2009 21:51

cornsilk

sorry - i responded wrongly to something you said earlier

I would be distraught if i thought my son said something like that out loud to someone

when he told me what his friends said about me he said they call you and he started but i said 'dont say it please'

he said 'i just dont get it - i could never fancy anyones mum'

i dont give fig if he does actually

I do care that he is a polite - respectful and pleasant man - and affords those qualities to everyone he meets

what he says in private is his bag

Rhubarb · 17/02/2009 21:53

Oh oh oh, this is my favourite!

Let me know if I'm being annoying here ok?

Rhubarb · 17/02/2009 21:53

Although THIS guy looks like he's just noticed her dick and balls!

cornsilk · 17/02/2009 21:54

Rhubarb - how did you find that?

Remotew · 17/02/2009 21:54

lol, Rhubarb.

Not saying I wasn't slightly chuffed in a perverse way that a teen boy would notice me just wouldn't post about it on mumsnet or ring my mates up about it.

Rhubarb · 17/02/2009 21:55

This guy is so awestruck he's gone into spasm.

Rhubarb · 17/02/2009 21:56

Why cornsilk, it's not you is it???

cornsilk · 17/02/2009 21:58

er...no... of course not{worried emoticon}

RiaParkinson · 17/02/2009 21:58

Rhubab do you howl with laughter when you find these?
