OP posts:
Gateau · 17/02/2009 12:37

I think lots of people on here are taking this a bit seriously and being a bit hard on the OP. I'm really surprised by the amnount of fuddy, duddy comments about what was really only harmless fun.
Whether we like it or not, whether it's offensive or not, teenage boys will ALWAYS say mucky stuff like this - and THINK it!
That will never change. It's just boys being boys who really don't know any better and are having a bit of fun.
So I can see where the OP is coming from: she was simply flattered that young boys found her attractive.
My nephew's friends (aged 15 and 16)all fancy my SIL . It is much nicer, I admit, for boys to say "I fancy your Mum" than the remark these boys made.

Gateau · 17/02/2009 12:51

mrsgravy, please can you explain how the OP has set back feminism 100 years or so? That remark is way-over-the-top.

LucyEllensmummy · 17/02/2009 12:55

cornsilk - no i have girls, one of which is 18 and would probably tear giant strips out of anyone who made that sort of comment to her - she is one scary woman!!!

theultimatethreadkiller · 17/02/2009 13:20

Some very interesting points in this thread.

Bluesapphire77 · 17/02/2009 14:20

Yes cornsilk i have 2 boys and a girl, plus 2 girls and 1 boy that belong to my DP
My DD is 14 and so totally alike LEM's DD
Except she would prob also rip balls off.

I am sure someone will have something to say about me having 2 boys, how would i react to them doing it ect..

My DS1 is 11 and a very well mannered boy, very shy and quiet .. i don't expect he would say anything like in the OP BUT i have a sense of humour which is why i am still giggling at some of the posts on here and feeling very bad for it kicking off on poor LMLT
My DS2 is 4 weeks so not expecting any trouble from him yet
If my DS1 said such a thing and someone was offended i would expect that he at the very least apologise, but he does know that people can be frightened or angered by having such comments aimed at them. I have explained such things so he doesn't get involved when the older boys he hangs round with start. Not that they have yet to my knowledge and my son and i have a very open relationship, he would tell me if such a thing was being said/done, and i would explain my feelings as a woman, and the responses he may get from others, i have tried to bring him up to be empathetic to the best of my ability.

My DP, however, is the kind of caveman to be shouting stuff like 'get your tits out' and while it infuriates me it also makes me laugh when people report that he has been told 'I don't need to, you wanna see a tit, look in the mirror'

I understand some women find it frightening, or distressing, some have had it taken further and been threatened, or actually been attacked. I had similar happen and yes, i looked at them with a glare that would have frozen a brass monkey, but really inside i rolled my eyes and thought, spotty little git, and carried on what i was doing. I believe in that case and this, it was simply teenage boys being daft.
And a bit rude.

Unfortunately the world is such a way that bad things happen.

Whilst i would LOVE to say it is a womans right to walk down the street wearing what she wishes (for example) and not be hurt, molested, commented on, ect.. this is true, but unfortunately there will always be someone who thinks this is a green light to grab the woman, rape her, and say if he gets caught that she was dressed provocatively. It doesn't make it right...but...
Same if girls go out and get trashed.. someone may come and take advantage..then when accused (if ever caught) of rape, say that the sex was consensual.

We are all responsible for our own safety (staying sober, staying with friends in a group, not accepting drinks off strangers, getting a taxi home) and we have other people that are responsible for our safety in certain situations also, and laws to protect us, but.....

Shit STILL happens.

The OP is not in this category and IMO is funny only because the OP didn't mind and wasn't offended, if she had of been, i and others would have been posting differently i'm sure, full of support ect.

Backs away from pitchforks which are bound to make an appearance now

Bluesapphire77 · 17/02/2009 14:23

PS RE DP.. some girl once actually did get them out in response to his jeering so it appears this goes both ways

I was majorly unimpressed btw

beanieb · 17/02/2009 14:39

not nice, makes you wonder what their mothers are bringing them up to be IMO.

Bluesapphire77 · 17/02/2009 15:37

UM.. cocks like my DP?
As i said only laughed about this as OP not bothered....fair play to her
Makes you wonder if their mothers even know

Or care?

Depending on where they are/what context it was said in.
Well i've said my bit think the OP wants this one to die a dignified death now tbh

Rhubarb · 17/02/2009 15:40

"Mother I'd like to Fuck" - seriously, is that what they shout? I'm presuming the feminists have been on this thread already, it's too long for me to get into. But I'd walk over and challenge them on the spot. For swearing in front of my kids and for being disrespectful to me in front of my kids.

If that's the best flattery you can hope for then there is something wrong in your life.

Rhubarb · 17/02/2009 15:45

Bluesapphire - so if you know that women can find it distressing, frightening and threatening, why don't you say something to your DP? Or does he think it's his right to upset, distress and threaten women?

I used to work in a office in the centre of Manchester and very often walked past these people. When they shouted everyone turned to look and I found it very humiliating and upsetting. I was 17. To have those people looking at me like that really really upset me.

Ooops, sorry!

kizzie · 17/02/2009 15:47

this thread is slightly bizarre.

Im 38, happily married, professional career....

If it was me I would look suitably aloof and glare at them disapprovingly.

The storm off with a little skip in my step

As long as they werent being threatening with it I reeeeeeeeeeeally cant see whats sucha big deal with this

Rhubarb · 17/02/2009 15:49

Because obviously we were only put on this earth to be judged by men in order of how good a fuck they think we are.

Only now it's not just men who think they can shout obscentities at us in the street, it's teenage boys too. And the fact that you may have small children with you doesn't deter them.

Oh, but we should be grateful for the attention that gives us!

VoteforGoat · 17/02/2009 15:50

I dont want women to be shouted at suggestively in the street. it is just NOT nice or respectful.

Bluesapphire77 · 17/02/2009 15:53

Because he's a nob rhubarb and there is nothing i'd like more than for him to actually come unstuck

If i say anything i just look like a jealous twat apparently

kizzie · 17/02/2009 15:54

"Well LoveMyLapTop I hope you're proud of yourself. You have apparently, singlehandedly, set back the cause of feminisim by about 100 years or so. Before you know it Germaine Greer will be hurtling down your path in high dudgeon. Ms Pankhurst is spinning in her grave as I type.

Shame on you, shame on you. "

That post is a joke -right????

SalmonintheLiffey · 17/02/2009 15:54

Exactly rhubarb, the idea that some not yet grown up little brat is grading me (according to fuckability and nothing else) is revolting.

the fact that some women are flattered to be graded for their fuckability even when they haven't put themselves forward to be judged is a pile of steaming dog poo.

pigsinmud · 17/02/2009 15:55

I wouldn't have understood what they were talking about.

VoteforGoat · 17/02/2009 15:55

Im with you fishy

Bubbaluv · 17/02/2009 16:02

Don't know if it's all of Aus or just Sydney, but a law was brought in a few years ago to stop construction workers (identified as the worst culprits apparently) wold whilstling or making remarks about women passing by the construction site. It carries instant dissmisal I think and maybe a fine (can't remember)??
Anyway, makes it much less intimidating to walk past a construction site.
As for MILF, I would normally say it falls into the same category of agressive behaviour disguised as a compliment, but if the OP can get a kick out of it then good for her.

Bubbaluv · 17/02/2009 16:02

that's wolf not wold.

ILiketoMarmiteMarmite · 17/02/2009 16:05

Threads like this make my heart sink. It's so depressing that "feminist" is used as an insult. Here we go round the mulberry bush again - if you don't find this shite funny you have no sense of humour.

Actually, I don't find this shite funny because I have a brain.

As someone said earlier, Mother I'd Like to Fuck is a term borrowed from the porn industry and it represents the objectification of women. Being objectified is not sexy. Your self-esteem ought not to be dependent on the objectification of random teenagers. Children should be learning not to objectify - by this stage - this is 2009 ffs - objectification ought to be unusual, practically a historical curiosity.

For those children to shout that was aggressive, unpleasant - not complimentary - and if I ever heard my son doing it at 15, 20 or 25 or any age I would not only be amazed & horrified, I'd have serious words with him and realise my parenting hadn't been everything I pride myself it is.

What if they had shouted GILF at an elderly lady? Would you have told her to enjoy the attention?
