To think that 'Alfie' the 13 year old 'father' is not actually the real Dad

He is supposed to have fathered this child about 9+months ago. He doesn't look like he has reached puberty and it has been reported that his voice hasn't yet broken.
AIBU to feel that biologically he just couldn't have done this?
Is this just a money making scheme?

yes, but the boy we are discussing is 13 and entering into puberty, so he's quite capable of fathering a child. I've never said anything of the sort that a 5 year old can possibly father a child!lol. that's just ridiculous.

Whilst it certainly is possible for a 13 year old to father a child, or a 12 year old, they would have to have started puberty. Getting erections does not = puberty! The fact that he is so short (which is what makes me think all is not as it seems - a 13 year old who is 120 cm tall would be unlikely to be more than 4'6" on full adult height - check the centile charts) and his voice hasn't broken makes it unlikely, though it is a possibility.

ahfeckit · 16/02/2009 13:11

georgimama also agrees with my viewpoint there that the 13 year can possibly be the father. it's not a magical phenomenon.

Pannacotta · 16/02/2009 13:12

I agree with Catissleepy, the very worst thing about this whole affair if the awful, sensationalist media coverage and the parents trying to make money from it.

Cannot fathom how this sad and tawdry situation can be seen as a money making exercise, I would gutted if my teenage kids were in this predicament...

Feel so sorry for the poor baby too, what a sad start in life she has had.

ahfeckit · 16/02/2009 13:14

sorry if my choice of words wasn't precisely accurate, but what i meant was it's not impossible for him to be mature enough to father a child. there's no need to nitpick.
yes I'm well aware that if he's not producing sperm then he's not going to be capable of fathering a child. it's simple biology. but there have been 13 years fathers in the past.

tigermoth · 16/02/2009 13:17

exactly tmmj - just because he's 13 doesn't mean he can father a child. AFAIK It's not a magic number.

Of course I know it's possible for some 13 year olds to father a child - I wouldn't count Alfie as one of them, though.

TheFallenMadonna · 16/02/2009 13:19

That must be a mistake in reporting surely? He can't be 4ft tall.

CharleeheartsherChains · 16/02/2009 13:19

Why is the girl going to miss out on oppertunitys just becuase she is having a baby in her teens?

Im not saying its right i wouldn't give my blessing to a 13yr old or a 15yr who wanted a baby by any means but i don't think it means they are going to miss out on anything, you can still return to education and have a carreer and a social life, i have so im sure other teen arents can to?

ahfeckit · 16/02/2009 13:19

we've all got our own opinions on this matter. we'll have to agree to disagree.

You can, Charlee, and it's great if you have. But the odds are stacked against it. It would take lots of support and dedication.

The fact that the immediate reaction of the parents of the teens involved is not to protect their children's privacy or attempt to get injuctions to prevent publication, but rather to exploit the situation for the paltry sums the papers will pay, does not bode well for these children.

I don't think he's the father, i think it will turn out to be a money making scam and an older child fathered the baby.

He does not look like he could possibly be mature enouh to be producing sperm.

CharleeheartsherChains · 16/02/2009 13:44

Well hopefully she will do as i did and think 'bollo*ks to the teenage mum streotype' and go and get herself an education and and a social life and shock horror a job if she so wished!

Its not EVERY teen parent in the world that think, f*ck it i will just pop out a few more kids and get a council flat, i won't bother with a job becuase i will get loads of benifits'

I suppose i must be a minority............

Pan · 16/02/2009 13:57

Ok. It was me. She told me she was 42.

solidgoldbullet4myvalentine · 16/02/2009 14:07

If it does turn out to be a scam (well, presumably if Chantelle hadn;t actually given birth, that story would have come out now, but it is likely that someone else is the father of her baby, really) - then that poor little Alfie really should be taken into care, away from adults who could so ruthlessly disregard his feelings.

AnyFucker · 16/02/2009 14:10

lol @ pan

'Upwind, call me hard but why the hell should the state have to provide?? I work hard, my dh works hard, we started off in a tiny flat with bugger all and have worked to get the lovely life we have now. Why should my taxes go to provide a house etc for people who have no intention of doing anything to help themselves?
The whole benefits system needs to be drastically overhauled, to ensure people who genuinely need help get it and people who see it as an easy way out don't. '

Absolutely agree, who cares about the baby here, bung them allout of their state assisted homes and on the scrapheap: why should we be proud to be in a country where (theoretically) every child has a meal and a home? As long as my taxes stay the same. Sod that the baby didnt have a say.

Ah no sorry that's the opposite of what I believe. Ooops

TheMadHouse · 16/02/2009 16:32

I read somewhere (tabloid though) that he even had a uniform at her house and that he went straight to school from there.

Surley it is down to their parents to look after them and actually parent them.

Behaviour breeds behaviour and I really do fear for the little baby.

Surely it is wrong to encourage underage children to have sex and that by allowing Alfie to stay at her house her parents have encourage it.

It is so sad and stinks of parents who dont give a toss IMHO

TinkerBellesMumandFiFi2 · 16/02/2009 16:42

"boys get erections from a very young age, so that's enough to fertilise a woman/young girl."

Boys get erections from birth, it has nothing to do with their ability to father a child.

bleh · 16/02/2009 16:59

I think there should be a media black out, so that Alfie's father can't profit from this. I'm sorry, but if you know you can get 100,000 for sprogging at 13, and you think you have no other options, sprogging at 13 and selling the story to the Sun would be very attractive.

I think that her parents' should be charged with neglect, or even pimping (letting 2/3 boys have sex with their daughter with their consent?!).
