To think that 'Alfie' the 13 year old 'father' is not actually the real Dad

He is supposed to have fathered this child about 9+months ago. He doesn't look like he has reached puberty and it has been reported that his voice hasn't yet broken.
AIBU to feel that biologically he just couldn't have done this?
Is this just a money making scheme?

but it won;t make it not happen to them will it?

i do think some sort of wake up call is needed, but when being an underage mum and dad brings you front page fame/notoriety and more money than you have ever seen in your life, or likely to see again, how can you compete against that?

fymmumoftwo · 15/02/2009 17:53

the grandmothers don't look that healthy themselves - I think these ar two families with an awful lot of problems

lazymumofteenagesons · 15/02/2009 17:56

Also what to do about the newspapers paying vast sums for this story/pictures. Have they got no scruples? Obviously not! Silly question

I think for the parents it was also a choice although that is purely my opinion. And i think following this publicity I would expect to see the gutter press full of similar stories in the coming weeks

escape · 15/02/2009 17:58

I'm wide eyed with fascination on the whole topic of the 'social underclass' that appears to be getting large and larger in the UK.
Who is cultivating this lack of pride in oneself and ones future?
Is it an Education issue, I'm not sure.

I have a 'sink estate' background - why am I not on benefits , no job ever etc like many of my cousins? - we went to EXACTLY the same schools.
there are older children and teenagers today who have never seen their parents do a days work.

cocolepew · 15/02/2009 17:59

There was an article in the Times where Doctors were expressing surprise at the boy being the father. I couldn't make out if it was the Drs involved or others. They said it could be possible that he is the dad but they were sceptical.

philmassive · 15/02/2009 18:13

Just hope that the real father isn't an adult in the girl's life.

Sad, sad story.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/02/2009 18:17

turtle i heard it was 6 boys who had slept with her (on radio)

i hope for this poor boys sake that he isnt the dad

i also wonder if the girl will be done for rape/unlawful sex as she is the older girl of 15 and he is 13 (if they slept together)

if it was the other way round and a boy of 15 slept with a girl of 13 - all hell would break loose!!!

themoon66 · 15/02/2009 18:18

But the girl WAS educated about contraception. It said on BBC radio news that she was on the Pill and forgotten to take it on just one occasion.

I don't know what the answer is. I feel sad for them.

Lulumama · 15/02/2009 18:27

then she sdhould have known to take the MAP and also to use condoms to protect against STIs if sleeping with multiple partners

she was not educated

BONKmesenselERZ · 15/02/2009 18:27

surely all the money they have earnt will mean the parents will not be able to claim benefits now?

ADealingMummy · 15/02/2009 18:34

I'm not convinced Alfie is the father either. He looks so young and the baby doesn't even resemble him in the slightest.

Just a hunch though.

Poor Alfie could easily pass as a playmate for my 8yo DS.

It's a bit sick this girl's parents allowed her to sleep with so many boys in her own bedroom, one of them a boy of 12. They should be arrested.

If he is the father, I hope he learns his lesson and doesn't end up like this

ScottishMummy · 15/02/2009 19:02

this is a tawdry tale.the saddest part is an alleged group of teen father's and teen mum.children having children

I am not so interested who is the daddy.more aghast at children being so sexually active with catastrophic consequences

do hope rather than a media feeding frenzy, and blamefest that all concerned get support.

in particular Family Therapy
SW input
Nursery nurse support
contraception and social skill's education

after all the baby is here. so all concerned need some intensive hard work.

in particular that the young people are encouraged to think about self responsibility, self esteem.actions and consequences. hope they can mange to maintain their education

solidgoldbullet4myvalentine · 15/02/2009 19:06

There was something in the Guardian yesterday about another boy who fathered a child at 13 10 years ago: apparently he is still with his partner (the child's mother) and just about to buy a house, so it can turn out ok sometimes. This is not to say it's advisable or desirable, just that it's possible to improve your life even when the odds seem to be against you.

keepingitRia · 15/02/2009 19:16

It was on the front of one of the tabloids today (petrol forecourt) that Alfie is demanding a DNA test.

I hope they get it done quickly so that if it isn't him he can find out and move on, unless he decides to stick by her of course. I feel sad for him if he is the father that he isn't living with the baby.

ilovesprouts · 15/02/2009 19:22

theres something not quite right about this story

Heated · 15/02/2009 19:24

PeachyHasABrokenKeyboardSorry · 15/02/2009 19:30

escape I grew up on an estate like that also: my friends started having sex aged 10 with pretty much whoever was in park. But its not just where you live its who your family are: Mum and Dad valued education, expected me to have a job and dad worked his arse off on 60 hour weeks rather than claim benefits.

Locality is worth very little compared to aprents and the ethics you exposed to IMO.

Upwind · 15/02/2009 19:32

I find it bizarre that so many assume that this girl and her family did not want her to become a teenage mother - that it was some lack of understanding. Why wouldn't they want this baby? Babies are wonderful, and the state will provide, mading them financially better off. Why on earth should she wait to become a parent? What opportunities is she missing out on?

Ashantai · 15/02/2009 19:38

Well i'm sure they will be on Jeremy Kyle very soon now with her testing all the boys to see which one is the father.

I cant believe how young that boy looks, can he really be the father?

escape · 15/02/2009 19:53

Absolutely Peachy - I've got my dad to thank for working his arse off and taking us away when we were 6, still same area, but they got a mortgage and bought a house.

FWIW, My mum was pregnant at 15, got married on her 16th BIRTHDAY. I was born a few months later - still married. (i'm 31 btw)

BouncingTurtle · 15/02/2009 19:59

My friend who I mentioned in my earlier post came from a very well-to-do family, and lived in the posh end of town. Unlike me who lived in the scabby end

nannyL · 15/02/2009 20:03

to OP YANBU

i think the same.... doesnt look old enough to be physically able to father a child now, and cant belive he could 9 months ago either!
