DS1 has opportunity to go on a school journey. I was in 2 minds about letting him go mainly because there is going to be 6 chalets each with 5 children in and 1 chalet with 4 members of staff in.

Now it comes out that the price which is £350 does not apply to the 3 sets of twins in the class they have to pay £350 for the 2 rather than £700.

DS1 really wants to go so i have said to him IF the twins are both going and only paying for one then I will be telling the school that I will pay half the price as what is good for 1 (or in this case 6 with it being 3 sets of twins) is good for all.

Am I being unreasonable to expect the price to be the same for all???

Stewie,
Thats the same reason I joined the PTA. Did I want to, hell no; was it fun, no. I joined for my dd, so that I could 'help' from the inside. It wasn't easy, I wasn't working, but had a severly disabled ds and was studying for my OU degree too.

Can you afford for your child to go. I mean that is the main issue?? If the twins' parents had to pay £700, would your son be going? Or is it the fact that they have to pay the same as you, the reason why your son wouldn't be going??

I have twin boys by the way and they are going on a school trip this year. I have paid for BOTH of them and in actual fact, it never occured to me that I shouldn't.

TheLadyEvenstar · 13/01/2009 20:09

Knocked, I can indeed afford to pay half price for my son to as is the parents of all the sets of twins. But as I don't have twins I am not offered the subsiding that they are. That is why he is not going. well one of the reasons

And they are not paying the same as I or other parents as they are only paying for 1 child when 2 are going.

If your child wants to go and you can afford it you should concentrate on your own child - otherwise all you're actually doing is punishing your child for an action by the school.

Put it back where it belongs; write to the head/govs about this policy and put in a complaint. don't take it out on your child!

Leo My son understands that we cannot afford £350 but we can £175 which is what 3 sets of parents are paying for each child. He understands that if the school cannot allow the same price for each child then he won't be going, and he doesn't see this as a punishment, he understands the unfairness of it all.

He knows his dad has just returned to work and therefore £350 for us is a lot. And as i only have one child in yr6 the school won't help other than offering me the opportunity to pay the full amount over 4 installments. Whereas the twins parents paid £350 over the same period but that is not for each child it is either the reduced rate of £175 each or a bogof. The fee should be the same for ALL pupils whether a twin or not.

Stewie because I never knew about the trip then, i never founf out until the end of November. And going on previous yrs trips they have been days out for the year 6 pupils not a week away.

I had told the school when i found out that I could not afford £350 and was offered the installments.

if the twins parents paid their way, then surely it would reduce everyones costs...

TheLadyEvenstar · 13/01/2009 21:33

Stoppin, exactly if ALL children were paid for then that would help. But if the school can subsidise 3 of the children i.e 1 from each set of twins, then why not those that need the help as well? thats what I don't understand.
