I don't think I am but here goes

DS1 has opportunity to go on a school journey. I was in 2 minds about letting him go mainly because there is going to be 6 chalets each with 5 children in and 1 chalet with 4 members of staff in.

Now it comes out that the price which is £350 does not apply to the 3 sets of twins in the class they have to pay £350 for the 2 rather than £700.

DS1 really wants to go so i have said to him IF the twins are both going and only paying for one then I will be telling the school that I will pay half the price as what is good for 1 (or in this case 6 with it being 3 sets of twins) is good for all.

Am I being unreasonable to expect the price to be the same for all???

I think parents of twins are financially crippled ( generally)
It's so expensive, buying two of everything and nothing to hand down!

I would be a bit more understanding!

2shoesisskatingonthinice · 07/01/2009 22:32

yanbu I would be miffed too

blondehelen · 07/01/2009 22:33

YANBU

Effectively you are supplementing. Having twins must be difficult but having children at different ages is also expensive with children doing different things.

dirtygertiefromnumber30 · 07/01/2009 22:35

yabu. you sound like an interfering trouble-maker. pay the price of the trip for your ds and stop involving yourself with what others are doing.

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/01/2009 22:35

Blue, I would be more understanding if this was the only time it had happened but on every school trip there is always only 1 twin of each set that has to pay and i don't see why the other 25 children should have to pay full price when the sets pay half price.

OP posts:
TheLadyEvenstar · 07/01/2009 22:37

Dirty, can you not see that they are going buy one get one free holiday when the other children have to pay the full price. everyone should pay the same as far as i am concerned.

OP posts:
fluffles · 07/01/2009 22:39

yabu if the twins families need the financial help the school are offering.

yanbu if they come from well-off families who do not need financial help or if there are other families who are struggling more financially but not recieving any help.

if you cannot afford to pay for the trip then it's up to you to approach the school and ask for financial help for your son.

Lindax · 07/01/2009 22:39

can understand you feeling miffed think I would too - having 2 kids going on school trips is expensive whether they are twins or not, the fact they are on the same trip is irrelevent.

KingHerodNametaken · 07/01/2009 22:41

Oh have a heart - you have no idea how crippling it is to pay for 2 of everything at the same time

nicolamumof3 · 07/01/2009 22:42

YANBU i would be v.miffed personally.

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/01/2009 22:43

Fluffles, the woman who is bragging about getting her 2 dd's on the trip for the price of one works part time (cash in hand) and tells other mums this and also claims benefits. Plus does school run with 4 other children charging £50 a week per child, i know this as I asked her when heavily pg with ds2 if she would take ds1 for me. in the end i got a friend to take him. so i wouldn't think she struggles and needs help.

OP posts:
TheLadyEvenstar · 07/01/2009 22:45

King, but then the parents should not let either of them go if they cannot afford to pay...

Mind you I DO think £350 is a lot of money for 5 days in the isle of wight

OP posts:
WallOfSilence · 07/01/2009 22:45

I don't know if you're being unreasonable or not.

I would say that the school are doing a good thing.

Imagine the kids faces if 6 of them in the class couldn't go because it was too expensive. This way they all get to go.

Say nothing, maybe some day you will be struggling to pay for something (or not) & the leniency of the school rules will work in your favour?

KingHerodNametaken · 07/01/2009 22:46

When you have one child and have another child 2 years later, you've made the decision to have 2 children.

When you get pregnant with twins, that's not a decision the mother makes.

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/01/2009 22:48

Wall I am struggling we cannot afford £350 so ds1 cannot go but if the twins have to pay £175 each then why not all?

dirtygertiefromnumber30 · 07/01/2009 22:50

oh god, TLE. So now she's a benefit fraudster and complete BITCH to boot. Well then, OBVIOUSLY yanbu, now you have given us the extra information....

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/01/2009 22:51

Dirty, one of the women is working cash in hand i didn't say she was a bitch at all.

OP posts:
TheLadyEvenstar · 07/01/2009 22:52

I just think the price should be the same for ALL the children

OP posts:
mazzystartled · 07/01/2009 22:52

i think if the school is subsidising out of their budget, then imo it is fine

if the other parents are paying more in order to cover it, however, then it is not

but blimey, yes the whole thing sounds a bit a lot steep

and that other mother sounds a horror, but it shouldn't cloud the issue

2shoesisskatingonthinice · 07/01/2009 22:52

I said you were yanbu about the twins bit as imo that is unfair. but i couldn't give a shit about the mums circs. I think is crappy to post.

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/01/2009 22:54

Mazzy Thats my point if all the children paid the same and the staff paid then surely the price would drop?

OP posts:
LouMacca · 07/01/2009 22:54

I am the mum of twins and can see your point. I want my children to be treated as individuals - no way would I expect to pay one, get one free on a school trip unless as others have said the families need the financial support.

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/01/2009 22:55

2shoes, ok i should not have put that but what annoys me is this one parent can get away with paying for 1 child when in fact 2 are going and she brags about it and then starts talking about what money she brings in.

OP posts:
bluejelly · 07/01/2009 22:56

are you sure you're not just a tiny bit cross cos it's too expensive for you?
remember the twin mums will have to pay the same amount, eg 350

for what it's worth i think 350 is steep for 5 days!

dirtygertiefromnumber30 · 07/01/2009 22:56

also - who the HELL pays £50 a week to get someone to drop their kids off at school

by the way, are the parents of the other two sets of twins benefit theives too?
