But I have compiled a list of high street stores that will go bust before 31st January and now feel compelled to see if I can shout HOUSE before anyone else...

ooo flipping 'eck Matalan can't go - I know it's not great stuff, but it's about the best we've got round here.

Oh know we use our Blacks, I also missed Borders we always buy something from the Bournemouth or Poole one when we are there.

Not surprised about Blacks - too many stores and not enough stock - I could never find anything to buy

Can I just clear up that technically, Blacks never went into administration?

They instead struck a deal with their landlords which meant that some of their unprofitable stores closed, but the vast majority are still open and trading and will continue to do so. Eyethangyew.

I miss Borders a lot..such a great range, but maybe they overstretched themselves a little.
Speaking of bingo (so many pages this thread I'm not sure if somebody has), there's at least one major chain looking dodgy as we get into 2010 (hello Gala) - they're closing clubs and ditching staff all over the place.

Cross my fingers other chains don't follow, or me and partner will both be up the swanny.

Is there a list of companies which have gone this recession?

I still have a shopping bag from The Pier. I went in it once a year, when I needed candles for Christmas presents.
