sorry but this is starting to hack me off. been reading several long and involved discussions recently and getting a bit sick of the number of people who join in going "i've only read the op but here is my opinion, despite the fact that you all moved on about 3 pages ago"

sigh

Pah! It's somebody slapping their hand on their forehead in a kind of kind of way and the dopeyness of the OP!

No prizes Gori - credit crunch and all that

prettybutterfly · 14/12/2008 23:01

Did it take long?

Gorionine · 14/12/2008 23:06

Well, i had to ask, just in case this one is just to prove my smily insetion talent!

here is my next party trick yes I can put the hat on too...

Oh4cryinOutLoud · 14/12/2008 23:06

Did it heck - I've cut and pasted it from another site - I'm a mother for crying out loud, I don't have time for such pocery!

Oh4cryinOutLoud · 14/12/2008 23:06

poncery

prettybutterfly · 14/12/2008 23:42

Well, I did wonder!

MinesApint · 14/12/2008 23:55

Of course yabu - who the feck are you to try and dictate rules of etiquette for posting on Mn?

Desiderata · 15/12/2008 00:01

I think the credit crunch is more worrying.

DontEatYellowSnowItsWeebump · 15/12/2008 00:05

Agreed, you should be up to date with all the posts if you're going to wade in and slag someone off (or indeed, not slag anyone off in the first place!).

However, I have very innocently posted after reading the first page without realising there were more pages after it, and of course spotted that other people had posted the same thing previously. It's a genuine mistake, and I've done it loads!

DontEatYellowSnowItsWeebump · 15/12/2008 00:06

In fact, I think I just did it there now!

TisTheSeasonToBeSolo · 15/12/2008 00:06

Not read all the thread but!
you can't be in the discussion that's already passed by some 377 posts ago anyway, because you weren't there...I try to read all the OP's posts and then add some of my thoughts to join in the discussion after the last post...you can't wriggle your post inbetween someone elses because you want to add to what they've said 201 posts ago... IYSWIM

Ivykaty44 · 15/12/2008 00:08

If the post is asking for an opinion - why should you have to read everyone elses opinion first?

If I stood at the bar and asked every drunk that came out of the "gents" the same question why would all the drunks need to know how the other drunks answered?

Desiderata · 15/12/2008 01:05

So there you are then, asicgirl. You are being monumentally unreasonable.

Take an aspririn.

Oh! And stop worrying about cyberspace.

Go to the library.

stuffitllama · 15/12/2008 03:16

gawd yes

only read the op

of course

TheProvincialLady · 15/12/2008 07:21

No, I prefer a white bathroom suite.

mm22bys · 15/12/2008 07:27

YABslightlyU, some threads are very long, but sometimes a poster's response has actually been answered in the very post before their own! Very annoying!

mm22bys · 15/12/2008 07:28

And I really hate the response that goes like this:

"What xxxx said."

How on earth does that add anything?

Almost as bad as:

"I heart so-and-so."

Do we have to talk like 6 year old girls on here now?

asicsgirl · 15/12/2008 11:00

ok that's me told!

cheers desiderata, i've taken me meds and the nice nurse will be along in a tick.

lol provinciallady.

i heart you all.

My particular bugbear is when a new poster appears about 8 pages into the thread with some very long-winded post full of questions about comments left by other posters which, if the poster actually read the thread properly, she would have the answer too.

Another bugbear is posters who misquote/take quotations out of the context of a conversation between other posters and get all upset and aggressive about things that weren't actually ever said...

matildax · 15/12/2008 11:20

yabu. its a thread where anyone can have there say, it is not a active conversation between rl friends.
posters log in and out whenever and can say what they want, when they want.

so please get over it.

ps, i actually read the whole thread!! (do not normally, unless its something i really feel strongly about) lol

pps, hello twiglett, how are you?
i thought you had left mumsnet. i am glad to see you back.

Tortington · 15/12/2008 11:21

asicsgirl · 15/12/2008 11:29
