sorry but this is starting to hack me off. been reading several long and involved discussions recently and getting a bit sick of the number of people who join in going "i've only read the op but here is my opinion, despite the fact that you all moved on about 3 pages ago"

sigh

OP posts:
JollyPirate · 14/12/2008 20:02

Cannot be bothred to read whole thread but if I do plough in I usually say "I haven't had time to read the whole thread yet but......"

Does that let me off?

CatchaChristmasStar · 14/12/2008 20:03

YABU.

I like to come onto mumsnet and post, but fark me I don't have all the time in the world to sit and read through 100's of posts. Especially if it's a thread that you are new to.

I also find that if I read through lots of posts by other people it can alter my perception on things and my origional view, so I will respond to the OP. That's how a thread is supposed to work, surely?

JollyPirate · 14/12/2008 20:03

Okay - have now skimmed through the posts.....

juicyjolly · 14/12/2008 20:07

I do agree that it would be fine to read the post itself and then leave a comment, but thats were it should end.
If you havent read the views of anyone on the post then do not start to slag them! Simple Really.

poinsettydog · 14/12/2008 20:12

I come on here for light relief, not to plough through pages of rather dull replies.

I'll read through the whole lot when someone guarantees me that they'll all be worth reading.

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 14/12/2008 20:15

haven't read the whole thread - but YABU.

I frequently post my opinion of the OP.

Then I will probably get involved in the discussion properly.

ranting · 14/12/2008 20:22

Yes YABU, I don't have time to peruse 100s of replies all the time and sometimes I want my say too. So there!

Am really starting to tire of all the 'Ohh I don't think MNers should do this' bit.. it's a forum not Debretts guide to good manners.

But sometimes, when you go onto a thread, there are hundreds of posts and most people can't be bothered to read through every single one.

The only LONG thread I have ever throughy read every post and kept up with it was fivecandles post against childminders using mumsnet as it really did my head in, but if it is a stupid pointless thread like this one, I can't be arsed but still might have something to say

ScottishMummy · 14/12/2008 20:49

some threads are epics maybe you only want to answer the op anyway!rather than wade through all the humphy faces

TheBrayingBanshee · 14/12/2008 20:52

Some of the threads on here are pages long. For gawds sake get a life. YABU and unfriendly. Luckily you don't make the rules.

Martha200 · 14/12/2008 21:33

Depends on the thread/subject, for some threads that might be fine, but I might get a little frustrated if I started as the OP and then people commented but then missed other posts I then might have added to the conversation, so if they had then read what else I might have written it may have changed their response a bit, or it might not!

Simplysally · 14/12/2008 21:40

I read them all (if they are not 685 pages long!) until someone starts a Troll Hunt then I tend to skim to the end or leave the thread altogether. Some of the threads have umpteen posts nothing to do with the OP but are from a would-be Troll slayer trying to prove a point. If people are honest about skipping posts, I don't see the problems in them jumping straight to post. Perhaps they're limited how long they can spend on the net?

I did read all the posts before I wrote this as well

VinegarTitsTheSeasonToBeJolly · 14/12/2008 21:40

I always read at least the first and last 10 posts just to get a jist of things

Yanbu - its my pet hate when a thread has taken a U turn then someone posts without readin some of the thread

Gorionine · 14/12/2008 22:02

Only read the OP but Yanbu{grin]

Now honestly, Sometimes if the thread is really long I also read first+last page, and, as someone mentionned earlier, It can on occasion be better to read only the OP not to get swayed by other posters. Very often you see to pages with same sort of advice, comes a fresh opinion and the rest of the thread shift and follows it IYSWIM.

beanieb · 14/12/2008 22:03

I'm the same as 2AdventSevenfoldShoes sometimes.

piscesmoon · 14/12/2008 22:32

YABU- although it is annoying to have to point out facts that they have missed; or when they have a go at OP who changed he mind 20 messages before!

mel1981 · 14/12/2008 22:48

Each to their own surely? I personally dont think any one should be tellling others how to read/reply to posts. its everyones choice how they go about it. As others have already said they might be too busy etc.

I havent been on here much lately cause I dont have time, posts are to long to read properly/quickly and TBH some threads can be quite clicky cause MN'ers have their own groups/friends already, while they are welcoming at 1st it doesnt always hold out in the long run.

prettybutterfly · 14/12/2008 22:50

What is that?
Is it meant to be a face?

I've once or twice replied to an OP without REALISING there were more pages. How embarrassing.

I once replied to an OP and deliberately missed out 13 pages. When I caught up it was reams and reams of 'what she said' type twaddle and I wished I hadn't bothered.

If you really CARE about a thread then it can be annoying when other people have posted without reading, but only annoying. Not enraging.

On balance ... yabu. So there.

nkf · 14/12/2008 22:52

Personally, I think all threads should be answered with one's eyes closed. Utterly randomly.

prettybutterfly · 14/12/2008 22:54

Cheese and biscuits!

Gorionine · 14/12/2008 22:54

I see someone with their hand in front of their face. Do I win something?

Very impressive, all I can do is insert smilies!

I am sometimes so slw that I can crosspost entire pages ,not kidding!

mel1981 · 14/12/2008 22:55

Ive done the same prettybutterfly, by the time i'd read the whole post it turned out it wasnt worth reading as the conversation ended up completely different to how it started. I dont think I ended up posting at all in the end.

MinkyBorage · 14/12/2008 22:57

I haven't read the whole thread, but I'd like to say that I can't be arsed which I think is a perfectly reasonable excuse, and therefore yabu
