sorry but this is starting to hack me off. been reading several long and involved discussions recently and getting a bit sick of the number of people who join in going "i've only read the op but here is my opinion, despite the fact that you all moved on about 3 pages ago"

sigh

OP posts:
bigbaubleeyes · 15/12/2008 12:52

No you shouldnt have to otherwise you are implying that unless you have the time to read all posts from some of the longer threads then you are excluded from posting - we all have different amounts of time to spend on here at different times.

So if this were the case then everyone would have to read everything at any given time of day and night.

As many have pointed out OPers want different opinions - the ture value of MN IMO. It annoys me that some threads exclude newcommers if the OP is that bothered about this then on longer more complicated discussion should give 'update' posts.

You could go on forever about this OP never replying or more seasoned MNers ignoring MN who dont come on as often - this idea defeats the object does if not - WHAT NEXT threads by invitation only at set times of day - get on with it

JingleBennysAndJooniper · 15/12/2008 12:54

what custy said

bigbaubleeyes · 15/12/2008 12:59

What - some of you are actually criticising posters for agreeing with other people - get over yourselves this give the OP an idea of the strength of the opinion - oh democracy now theres a concept.

AND while I am at it so what if someone posts a Q thats been answered elsewhere on MN this is excludes people also - like ALL MN have been here since the very beginning and newbies dont have the right to ask questions in order to get a personal response - passive agressive bullying thats what that is

pagwatch · 15/12/2008 13:11

of course people are free to join in and comment on whatever they want. I often tag on to long threads but I usually skim the start and skim the latest to get an idea of what people are talking about.

It just seems a bit thick to join a very long thread without even trying to catch up in the most basic way where the thread has moved too. If someone has posted "AIBU to not wear a hat in the winter" and the thread is now on page 27 does it really take a genius to figure that the thread has maybe moved on.
Yet some towering Einstein will still post " haven't read the op but YABU as it is very cold" No shit sherlock.

But then people who read the op and then post often seem to post the friggin obvious anyway. Yay democracy.
The freedom to make every single thread effectively just a poll.

BTW love that the people posting about freedom and democracy and bullying are telling others to get over themselves. No over reaction there at all ....

bigbaubleeyes · 15/12/2008 13:21

Pag - the point is this thread is an over - reaction - let people be the OP can make up their own minds on what to take on board or not.

Anyway how can you say I have over reacted about people being critical of others for agreeing - its standing up for democracy

Poins · 15/12/2008 13:22

YABU. It's mumsnet not school

Poins · 15/12/2008 13:26

and reading the thread before commenting doesn't mean you are not talking shite. It just means you think you are more entitled to talk shite. But like someone else says, shite is the norm for MN these days. It would be a terrible waste of precious time to have to trawl thru pages of shite just to add to it for fun...and sometimes it is fun to wind people up who are taking themselves a tad too serioulsy. It's far too easy sometimes

pagwatch · 15/12/2008 13:27

But the thread is broadly amusing and lighthearted.

I am just not sure why anyone would take it quite so seriously that they satrt putting in angry faces and talking about bullying.

You stand up for democracy if you like. If this thread is your best effort. You go girl.

pagwatch · 15/12/2008 13:29

Poins

too true
But it does save you from replicating someone elses shite. I like my shite to be my own...

bigbaubleeyes · 15/12/2008 13:34

Ok pag - yeah i do feel strongly about this but you know what - a thread that starts off in its title by being negative about the way in which some MNers post isnt exactly light hearted (subsequent posts have been amusing though becauase I have skim read thru!)

I do believe that everyone has the right to post whether they have read whole thing or not, other posters soon comment back if they think post unreasonable anyway.

Dont tell me whether I have the right to feel strogly about a topic or feel angry - who do you think you are?

Poins · 15/12/2008 13:37
Wink
bigbaubleeyes · 15/12/2008 13:55

Poins

IorekByrnison · 15/12/2008 13:57

YABU - one of my favourite mumsnet things is when the thread has moved far away from the OP into a really intense discussion about what Kierkegaard would have thought about reality TV or some such nonsense, and someone rambles in and says "YANBU your SIL sounds like a bitch".

What's all this about mumsnet being shite recently? When exactly was its golden age?

juicyjolly · 15/12/2008 13:58

I totally agree that 'everyone has the right to post whether they have read the whole thing or not' UNLESS they want to start slagging off the op and her views without actually reading what that person has actually SAID.

pagwatch · 15/12/2008 14:09

I believe I am pagwatch

I was waving for you as well and you are still being all arsey.
If I offer you a mince pie would it calm you down or make you grumpier still?

bigbaubleeyes · 15/12/2008 14:13

Is it an iced one?

Oh it'll do nicely in fact i am going to get RL one - see pag you've ambushed my diet now as well as my views (eek!)

pagwatch · 15/12/2008 14:16

mmmn. Mince pies....

pagwatch · 15/12/2008 14:18

AIBU to respond to poster without bothering to read their name correctly.

bigbaubleeyes · 15/12/2008 14:20

Brandy butter peeeerrrrrrlease

OMG hope anyone posting now doesnt forget to read thread and reply to OP

juicyjolly · 15/12/2008 14:23

Oh anything sweet will do it.

Thanks!

bigbaubleeyes · 15/12/2008 14:29

Help my baubles are shattered and icky with custard

Juicy its every MN for themselves

Poins · 15/12/2008 14:43

No, I'm not having it. What's wrong with addressing the original question rather than all the baggage that everyone attaches to it after? Cutting back to the chase.

Some of us have kids to feed and work to be done you know!

bigbaubleeyes · 15/12/2008 15:04

exactly poins

pagwatch · 15/12/2008 15:09

oh don't feed the kids for god sake.
Have you no sense of priority?

Read my general jibbering instead

asicsgirl · 15/12/2008 16:39
