Personally I think they're a bit naff, however my dad has one and my DH has just bought one relating to our surname It's DUN 37T. BIL bought a similar one which cost him 3 grand Dh's was £400.

I've been winding him up saying I now want AMY 1 (only 136 grand - )

WotsThatSkippy · 02/12/2008 17:23

lol@nouveau riche jibes.

Such snobbery!

TsarChasm · 02/12/2008 17:24

But some of them are so vague it's hard to tell that they are 'personalised'.

Anyway all number plates are personal aren't they? I've just changed my name to match the one I've got. (That was my version of a Lee Evans joke btw)

I do think they are maaaad but each to his own and all that.

it's fun ! it's something personal, like some people wear their name or initial as a necklace, or have things monogrammed ( probably not helping myself here...... )

and why does anyone have to justify it to you??

UnquietDad · 02/12/2008 17:36

Not nouveau riche "jibes". Observations.

Lulumamawanker · 02/12/2008 17:37

you didn;t ask why people had them, you wanted to know if you were BU to thikn they were obscene, different thing really..

Miyazaki · 02/12/2008 17:39

Not obscene but a bit naff for sure.

My mum really wanted one - and I still look on the lists for her name. She wouldn't have given a shit that they were naff it would have just tickled her...

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 02/12/2008 17:50

If you don't want to pay, just change your name to your number plate.

At least pregnant women should consider naming their kids after their no. plates. It'll save you a fortune on their 17th birthday!

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 02/12/2008 17:52

BTW I think they are naff and have better different things I would rather do with my money!

SoupDragon · 02/12/2008 18:41

christiana, open your eyes and look around you. There are 1000s of people spending money on 1000s of things which have no use, which aren't FOR anything.

I can guarantee that you have spent money on something I would never dream of owning, nay would rather gouge my eyes out with a blunt spoon rather than own. I wouldn't, however, call you all sorts of names and make all sorts of judgements based on that item.

I spent £160 on a handbag recently. I could, quite easily, have spent £3 in Primark instead.

FWIW, the majority of people owning private plates at DSs school are staunchly Boden Style rather than Chave Style.

hifi · 02/12/2008 18:48

ive seen VILAN, wonder what he does?

IllegallyBrunette · 02/12/2008 18:48

I just don't se the point of them.

Woman who lives in my road has K SEXY as hers. She is about 45 with white blonde bleached hair and dresses like her teen daughters.

myjeansaretootight · 02/12/2008 18:58

I saw S4ANTA a few weeks ago. He might not be happy at being called tacky - no pressies for you!

They are cheesy. But if people want to spend their money on them, fair enough. Some people do a lot dafter things

SantasNuttySTaff · 02/12/2008 19:16

the point of pnp's is to decorate your car with something "personal" or put your stamp on the car rather like putting a collar on a dog it's like wallpapering or painting your walls if you like

the reason people spend money on them is simply because they want to!!!

end of story

you could add other things to your thread if you really like ....monograms, headed paper, named sports bottles for kids, keyrings with names on etc ..... would you call these items "tacky/vulgar" NO

so please leave the pn plates alone

noonki · 02/12/2008 19:25

whats a monogram?

SantasNuttySTaff · 02/12/2008 19:27

where people get their initials printed or embroidered on stuff like towels or bathrobes
