DH got a cheap one (means something to us, not one you would notice or point out) just so people wouldn't know how new/old his car is.

We have had it on 3 cars now, just transfer it, and a new car is not obviously brand new, and a well kept old car is not displaying it's age.

TheSeriousSanta · 02/12/2008 20:49

FFS - did someone say that?????

Bugger the private plate, what about the £150K cars??????????????????????????

SantasNuttySTaff · 02/12/2008 20:50

tequilamockingbird - www.dvlaregistrations.co.uk lol

GivePeasAChance · 02/12/2008 20:51

Represent.

Not are.

They help support greedy capitalist culture. And hence help justify fat cats. Who do you think gets the money for all the pointless bits of plastic - I am sure somewhere there will be a big fat cat laughing his arse off.

Lulumama · 02/12/2008 20:53

you can say that about buying anything that is not second hand, or costs a penny more than its true worth

or even having a car when there is public transport or bikes or your feet!

Ronaldinhio · 02/12/2008 20:53

sorry i think yabu

what business is it of yours how other spend their hard earned?

just because they gain happiness spending their money in a way that you don't doesn't mean that it's obscene

what a strange use of the word obscene

You know, if it wasnt for the fact I drive a company car (so not allowed to put private plates on) and also the fact it's nearly Christmas and I'm skinter than a skint man's skint bits, I'd actually buy F4 NJO!

One of you lovely MNers must want to drive around in a F4NJO surely?

SantasNuttySTaff · 02/12/2008 21:02

here comes the F4NJO mobile!! lol

TequilaMockinBird · 02/12/2008 21:04

You'd also need a 'Nice Norks On Board' sign for the back though.

Just so that everyone knew you were definitely a MNer

SantasNuttySTaff · 02/12/2008 21:06

pmsl

TheSeriousOne · 02/12/2008 21:13

No-one does...

I used to have a car that (sadly) had the letters VAG (I assure you it was not a private plate) and my 'mates' used to call it the Vag-wagon or the Wag-mobile.

And, what's worse, it was an old style Tigra.

Oh the shame.

TheSeriousOne · 02/12/2008 21:16

That should be VAG mobile

GinghamRibbon · 02/12/2008 21:23

Why on earth do you care. Your brain should not be wasting oxygen on this topic.

In, fact you really need to wind down. People who buy this commercial tat are often really odd and very common/showy.

The DVLA themselves dont do this but people do buy them specifically for charity auctions already and also auction off their own number plates for good causes.

if you do feel that strongly by all means contact them and see what they say

jazzandh · 03/12/2008 09:52

V12 GRA gets a laugh from people where we are.....

purpleduck · 03/12/2008 10:09

Can anyone provide a link...?
I would LOVE a personalised numberplate....

Jackaroo · 03/12/2008 10:13

I've got myself in a bit of a situation by slagging off pnp's when I first arrived in Oz last year - couldn't believe they were EVERYWHERE....... some of them are initials, which doesn't really bother me, as it doesn't really tell anyone outside your circle anything...

But millions of cars here have names/words etc.

Then discovered that BIL has one, two colleagues have them etc etc... should have realised seeing as there are MILLIONS

Obscene, no, tacky, vulgar, common, most definitely.
I used to have one.........

Would it be very wrong to order HI5 7ART for someone?

daftpunk · 03/12/2008 10:22

wouldn't say obscene, but certainly naff..unless you're famous.

it's like people having names for their house when they live in a semi in croydon.

classy!

wontbepreggersagain · 03/12/2008 10:23

i wondered when this topic would come up again- teeeheee!

So they are nasty, vile, chavvy and tacky......... but they are a nice tax relief

Between me, dh and our companies we own oooh about 25 personal plates- most were cheapies bought in bulk with company initials on for the fleet.

smug, me...

purpleduck · 03/12/2008 10:31
