I went to a well known high street store and was served by a lady who had tourettes. I have no problem with this or any of her ticks BUT she kept saying cunt and wanker - i dont use these words in front of my children so dont expect others to AIBU in expecting that she shouldnt be serving customers?

It was rather disconcerting to be told "thats £20.00 please, cunt, wanker"

I think this is a TROLL.....

needmorecoffee · 30/11/2008 18:00

kids are going to hear those words and then, when they are teens they will use them.
I applaud the shop, not hiding her away in the back. She has a right to the same jobs as anyone else, whatever her condition.

racmac · 30/11/2008 18:02

why am i a troll

I came across this when my eldest ds was in hospital for just over a week. No matter when we tried to get something to eat in the hospital, we would be served by a staff member who possibly had the same condition.

It was pretty unerving to be sworn at, spat at and have your toast thrown at you.

the woman has a condition. Ignore what she says, your children wont melt. Anything else is disablist.
What next? OMG that quadraplegic is drooling????

look on the brightside, our dd's can open a cafe(they can call it shockers) and drool and spill stuff all over the customers

judgenutmeg · 30/11/2008 18:04

unnerving

I was just trying to correct a spelling. Sorry for the multiple posts!

needmorecoffee · 30/11/2008 18:05

having been on the reciving end of some precious woman who said my dd's condition upset her 3 yo I think there's still too many intolerant and disablist attitudes.
If your little angel hears a bad word either tell her not to use it or stuff cotton wool in her ears.

2AdventSevenfoldShoes · 30/11/2008 18:06

judgenutmeg imagine having a condition you have no control over.
unnerving i imagine

moston · 30/11/2008 18:06

well it is self-limiting really. A blind person does not make a good crossing guard. A person who has an uncontrollable tic of swearing and spitting does not make a good customer services rep.

To try and pretend anything else is drivel

for the op

moston · 30/11/2008 18:12

so it is ok to be serving people if you have uncontrollable swearing then?

is it ok to be serving people if you are suffering from manic or psycopathic violent outbursts? After all that's a disease too.

I'm am trying to work out where the line is drawn.

moston · 30/11/2008 18:13

I used to work in a kitchen with a woman with Tourettes by the way. For about 8 months. Lovely lady.

I'm with Moston on this one.

needmorecoffee · 30/11/2008 18:16

since when is the manifestation of this ladies impairment going to actually hurt you?

2AdventSevenfoldShoes · 30/11/2008 18:17

sorry I find it hard to take a thread like this seriously, a small child hearing a few swear words will not harm them for life. a grown up hearing swear words will not harm them for life.
but if the lady in the op isn't allowed to work, it will harm her for life.

needmorecoffee · 30/11/2008 18:17

I'd go shop there and applaud their positive outlook on impairments myself. And I'd take my 4 yo.

2AdventSevenfoldShoes · 30/11/2008 18:18

moston tourettes is not a disease, you won't catch it.

thenewme · 30/11/2008 18:19

Which shop was it?

2AdventSevenfoldShoes · 30/11/2008 18:19

nmc I would too, trouble is dd would be laughing her head off.
