to think you shouldn't dress your children in Boden to go to a playgroup for deprived families?

A lady who goes to a homeStart playgroup I go to always has her kids in Boden, which I don't think is fair on the other mum's who can't afford such things like that. The playgroup is especially for deprived families and families in need in other ways so I think she is a bit off to rub our faces in it that she shops in Boden for all her kids when she knows most of the parents and even the staff can't afford to.

I have thought of pointing this out to her and asking her if she would dress them down occasionally but didn't know if she would take it well.

What would you do?

mrsmaidamess · 01/11/2008 18:03

How do you know she doesn't buy them from NCT sales, or from ebay or is given them?

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 01/11/2008 18:03

To be honest, most (if not all) wouldn't even notice. I wouldn't mention it.

aGalChangedHerName · 01/11/2008 18:03

Maybe she gets them from someone?

None of your business IMO.

MorticiaDoom · 01/11/2008 18:04

My kids are usually in Next or Gap but I buy everything from ebay and never pay more than £5 for anything (and actually I have to really want something to pay that much). You know nothing about where she gets the clothes so yes YABU!

2point4kids · 01/11/2008 18:04

do you know her well enough to know she buys the clothes new?
my friend dresses her son in beautiful clothes and they are all given to her by her cousin who's son is slightly older....

memoo · 01/11/2008 18:04

what do you want her to do? put them in bin sacks?

milge · 01/11/2008 18:04

This has to be a piss take. Surely.

SixSpotBonfire · 01/11/2008 18:05

They could be hand-me-downs/second-hand/bought on E-bay.

And even if they're not, it's actually none of your business. In our area, SureStart events are open to all parents with pre-schoolers and a lot of people go to e.g. the Walkin' Talkin' Drop-Ins, not because they are "deprived" but because they are worried because their DCs are slow to walk or talk.

I think you should wind your neck in.

daftpunk · 01/11/2008 18:05

how would they know the clothes were from boden??

weepootle · 01/11/2008 18:05

If the families are so deprived then Boden probably won't mean a thing to them, I really don't think anyone will care what her kids are wearing. I do think you're being unreasonable.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 01/11/2008 18:05

YABU. How do you know its new Boden stuff? It could be 4th time hand me downs. Also, as far as I am aware, it is not a crime to want to dress ones children in a nice way. The way she dresses her kids is really nothing to do with you or anyone else, as long as they are appropriately (ie for weather etc) dressed.

Why does it even matter? I don't really understand your perspective.

Sparkletastic · 01/11/2008 18:06

trip trap

KerryMmmmkay · 01/11/2008 18:06

Wow she sounds like an inconsiderate bitch. Whenever I'm slumming it I make sure my DCs wear rags. Apart from anything else, I suspect those so-called deprived people might try to nick my DC's Boden-wear. You can't trust 'em you know.

AMumInScotland · 01/11/2008 18:08

I'm not a "deprived" family, but I wouldn't recognise Boden clothes from those from Matalan, or care. Why on earth would anyone be bothered?

OTOH If she has loud conversations about what a lovely outfit she just got for only £70 then yes I would have a word.

PurlyQueen · 01/11/2008 18:10

I was almost going to reply to this thread, but it's got to be a wind-up.

CrushWithEyeliner · 01/11/2008 18:10

How will anyone know they are from Boden?

AuraofDora · 01/11/2008 18:10

hand out council clogs and sackcloth dungaress for duration of your playgroup...

Saturn74 · 01/11/2008 18:11

How do you know they are from Boden?
Do you grab her DCs in a headlock and insist on rootling through their clothes, checking for labels?

Saturn74 · 01/11/2008 18:12

I don't think this is a troll.
Boden infestation is a real problem.
OP, check your local council website; they've probably got a relevant Helpline.

nappyaddict · 01/11/2008 18:12
Hmm
daftpunk · 01/11/2008 18:12

yep..think your right purlyqueen

and a boring wind-up too

glitterball · 01/11/2008 18:14

YABU

I dont think how people dress their children is a measure of their financial status....as had been said she could buy stuff from ebay/charity shop etc, or have been given it, or have a friend or relative who works for the company & gets the stuff free/discounted.....or she might live on beans on toast & not buy any clothes herself to afford them. there are lots of possibilities.....

spottyzebrahasthelurgy · 01/11/2008 18:15

id never even heard of boden pre mn, i don't think most folk even know what it is.
