to think you shouldn't dress your children in Boden to go to a playgroup for deprived families?

A lady who goes to a homeStart playgroup I go to always has her kids in Boden, which I don't think is fair on the other mum's who can't afford such things like that. The playgroup is especially for deprived families and families in need in other ways so I think she is a bit off to rub our faces in it that she shops in Boden for all her kids when she knows most of the parents and even the staff can't afford to.

I have thought of pointing this out to her and asking her if she would dress them down occasionally but didn't know if she would take it well.

What would you do?

I'm sure it's been said - but really, what a load of cobblers.

Dressing down so as not to upset people? How patronising. The woman has a right to buy her kids clothes from whereever she wants. And as for talking to her about it - she would (rightfully) think you a lunatic. I would look at myself if I had a second wardrobe for dressing down to go to the "poor people" nursery.

Some people have more money than other people. Lots of people have more money than me. Doesn't worry me one iota.

lol I mistook a jumper a little girl had on for boden, when i ask where her mum got it from, it was primark Asda sell some very boden like clothes atm too

My girls wear boden but i only ever buy in the sale or get from misdee

cheesesarnie · 04/11/2008 11:58

i did that today lisad-i commented on a girls coat and said ooh is it boden-she said no woolworths.

so op maybe your boden bashing is actually asda,primark/woolworths bashing ????(which is actually more expensive than second hand boden imo)

eniddo · 04/11/2008 11:59

lolol at boden infestation

jeee · 04/11/2008 12:00

There's something so frightfully common about wearing new clothes, don't you think?

cheesesarnie · 04/11/2008 12:50

totally jeee

lisad123 · 04/11/2008 12:54

Sorry I am being ignorant but what is Boden?

pagwatch · 04/11/2008 14:44

google it...

sunnygirl1412 · 04/11/2008 14:53

Helpful, pagwatch.

Boden's an upmarket brand of clothing for women and children. Very gorgeous clothing (I wish it came in my size) but pricey.

onthewarpath · 05/11/2008 10:06

Thanks sunny.
I happen to think it is nicer to ask a friend than google things. Makes it a bit more sociable.

sunnygirl1412 · 05/11/2008 10:22

Well mumsnet pretty much IS my social life at the moment, onthewarpath - we moved up to Scotland from the southeast earlier this year, and I've not really made any proper friends yet - not the sort that I can drop in on for coffee and chat - or who'll drop in on me for the same - so I come to mumsnet for intelligent conversation - and it does not disappoint!

LOLOL at this thread

filz · 05/11/2008 10:28

OP, you need to grow up

my children and I wear lovely clothes but the vast majority of them are second hand. I am not going to stop looking nice or wearing quality clothing incase it upsets someone as poor as me

filz · 05/11/2008 10:29

The other thing is...families are deprived for all sorts of reasons, not just financial

CoffeeAndCarrotCake · 05/11/2008 10:41

Talking of Boden, just got this voucher from Boden for a free kids meal at Pizza Express (for those who don't wear Boden, Pizza Express is like Pizza Hut, but posher)

mummyloveslucy · 05/11/2008 10:41

What's so special about Boden anyway? I've looked on the websight and it just looks the same as what every other child in the street wears.
I like more indevidual clothing like Little Darlings, Sarah Louise and Mayoral personally. What people dress their children in is compleatly up to them. I think it's worse when the Mum is glamed up to the nines and her children look tatty.

Romy7 · 05/11/2008 10:57

does anyone remember 'too posh to wash?'

mummyloveslucy · 05/11/2008 11:05

Yes, that was good. Why ?

CountessDracula · 05/11/2008 11:07

So what do you suggest?

That families who normally dress their kids in Boden buy some special clothes that their kids wear when playing with those less financially fortunate than themselves

It is a brand of clothing ffs
get over it

filz · 05/11/2008 11:56

how patronisng aswell

'oh i must wear some new look as I am mixing with those council types today dear'

georgiemum · 05/11/2008 11:57

Maybe that IS them dressed down. 'Now darlings, tiaras off!!@
