to think you shouldn't dress your children in Boden to go to a playgroup for deprived families?

A lady who goes to a homeStart playgroup I go to always has her kids in Boden, which I don't think is fair on the other mum's who can't afford such things like that. The playgroup is especially for deprived families and families in need in other ways so I think she is a bit off to rub our faces in it that she shops in Boden for all her kids when she knows most of the parents and even the staff can't afford to.

I have thought of pointing this out to her and asking her if she would dress them down occasionally but didn't know if she would take it well.

What would you do?

I'd never heard of Katvig and Plastisock before. They have some fab clothes!

LadyLaGore · 02/11/2008 07:49

oh byes i love scandinavian kids clothes. lovely bright colours and lots of stripes and 'retro' patterns. lovely. ds3 has lots of leggings from these people, v comfy and practical imo.

familybliss · 02/11/2008 11:01

DippyDora is spot on!

I ditto everything DippyDora has written here.

NotBigNotClever · 02/11/2008 11:18

Thanks for this thread - the title really made me laugh. V. funny, but entirely unreasonable, IMNSHO. Am now off to rummage in the dustbin for the holey cheap trousers belonging to ds that I threw out yesterday. Can't have him walking around looking smart - I am not loaded.

BBeingpatient · 02/11/2008 14:05

tripity trap, troll!

Cheesesarnie · 02/11/2008 14:09

i buy boden etc on ebay-cheaper than tescos, asda etc at times.i only buy clothes we need-we dont have huge bulging wardrobes.we dont have alot of spare cash.

op -what clothing would be more suitable for your stereotype of deprived family?potato sack?and what shoes do you suggest?

Flibbertyjibbet · 02/11/2008 14:19

Yes I must remember that when we go to the Sure Start playgroups,
I need to take my boys out of the branded but cheap stuff I get from ebay, and put them in some george stuff that will cost more to buy from Asda.
Cos there might be some trolls at the playgroup waiting for a moan on mumsnet.

Cheesesarnie · 02/11/2008 14:26

actually why bother dressing them at all.

Wuxiapian · 02/11/2008 14:27

WellAmI, why does it bother you so much what other peoples' kids are wearing?

Surely, you're there to meet and support other families not label spotparents!

How incredibly sad.

I don't think you are being unreasonable at all. Rather, I think you're full of shit.

Have you also started a pregnancy thread this weekend and one about not being able to pay school fees?

findtheriver · 02/11/2008 20:41

I think it could be

barnsleybelle · 02/11/2008 20:45

I hate it when people look at what children/babies are dressed in and make assumptions. My dd 13 months is more often than not dressed in monsoon that i have bought 2nd hand off ebay (which is cheaper than brand new next). I buy them because i think they are pretty and don't want to spend shop prices on them. I hope people don't look at her and get all judgey.

ChoChoSan · 03/11/2008 17:52

YABU It's none of your business, she can dress her kids in what she likes...why should you take offence as long as she is not taking the clothes of your back, what difference does the label make to you?

I should imagine the kids don't give a damn!

stillstanding · 03/11/2008 17:54

Is this a joke? Put your kids in whatever you want to put them. And stop judging others fgs.

NomDePlume · 03/11/2008 17:55

Not meaning to sound funny but the 'deprived families' round my way probably wouldn't recognise Boden if it bit them on the 'arris.

Weird thing to get het up about, imo.

R2G · 03/11/2008 18:21

DS has a Boden coat. £3 nearly new sale. We dont go to Surestart but he does go to a play group in the very posh area. No one has ever commented on his clothes as they are not inverted snobs such as the OP

brightongirldownunder · 04/11/2008 03:34

Hehe - anyone notice she's wound us all up and now buggered off.....she's troll, roll de roll..

I dress my 18m daughter in twinset and pearls, then haul her down to the local commoners playgroup where she tries to get the other kids to speak properly. I'm so proud. She even drinks earl grey from a cup and saucer, not some awful plastic sippy cup. (reality is she's covered in felt tip and has started pointing at people and saying "poo" very loudly}

Can we please have a troll of the week thread? I nominate this OP.

pingping · 04/11/2008 10:39

FGS YABU!

I know lots of people that prefer to make sure there children are dressed well and they either do this by shopping on EBay or other sources one of my friends has not brought new clothes for herself since both her DD's were born and they are dressed in Nike Gap etc she goes without

Mind your own business

nickytwotimes · 04/11/2008 10:41

pmsl brightongirl.
loved that!

cupsoftea · 04/11/2008 10:44

I find it's the wealthier families who dress their kids in anything - rips, holes, second hand - it doesn't matter.

lisad123 · 04/11/2008 10:50

oh no btter make sure I dont wear my next and boden to work for fear of upsetting the families I work. TBH Im pretty sure they dont give damn!!

pingping · 04/11/2008 11:04

I must be poor as I had never even heard of Boden until I came on mumsnet.

Even though I do all my shopping at Selfridges baby prada etc

lisad123 · 04/11/2008 11:14

LOL a lot of my friends in RL have no idea what boden is!

pagwatch · 04/11/2008 11:16

That Princess Di. The posh shite she dressed in when visiting the homeless....
What a bitch she was. At least Mother Teresa only wore sheets.
