to think you shouldn't dress your children in Boden to go to a playgroup for deprived families?

A lady who goes to a homeStart playgroup I go to always has her kids in Boden, which I don't think is fair on the other mum's who can't afford such things like that. The playgroup is especially for deprived families and families in need in other ways so I think she is a bit off to rub our faces in it that she shops in Boden for all her kids when she knows most of the parents and even the staff can't afford to.

I have thought of pointing this out to her and asking her if she would dress them down occasionally but didn't know if she would take it well.

What would you do?

I go to a surestart group.
My dd wears little Boden dresses.

YABU. You are an idiot.

electra · 01/11/2008 18:16

yes the more I look at the OP the more I think

SixSpotBonfire · 01/11/2008 18:17

Oh bugger, fell for it .

DippyDora · 01/11/2008 18:18

They are new as well

It is possible to live in a disadvantaged area and still have money you know.

Even if the OP is a troll some of the attitudes on this thread are

Just because you live in a surestart area doenst mean you have to live on beans or depend on second hand clothes to survive.

I live in a surestart area and own my own house!

cheekysealion · 01/11/2008 18:18

i disagree that homestart playgroups are for familes from deprived families

I am a volunteer and work with a wide range of families... some are really poor and some are not, but they all need support from us in the same way in that they are not coping very well with young children

needmorecoffee · 01/11/2008 18:18

I wouldn't recognise Boedn if it bit me and I use Surestart.
If she was flouncing in boasting of restaurants and foreign holidays and rubbing people's noses in it fair enough but I reckon half the poeple wouldn't recognise Boden or don't care.

BBBee · 01/11/2008 18:20

god what a thoughtless bitch

DippyDora · 01/11/2008 18:21

Cheeky - I am coping fine, thank you!

I go to the group because its another toddler group to attend in my area. Nothing to do with status, money or how well I am coping.

Many of the women at my group would be very upset if they could see this thread.

MissisBoot · 01/11/2008 18:25

Homestart isn't for deprived families . Its for anyone who needs some support with a young family.

DippyDora · 01/11/2008 18:26

The group I go to is for anyone with a child under one.

You have to need support

loobeylou · 01/11/2008 18:26

Are they def HER kids, she is not a CM? Why should it matter what anyone wears anyway? I used to attend the surestart group here for something else to do with my toddlers, a friend who is a CM used to take her mindees too, it was positively encouraged by the staff there!

But actually I think this is a wind up so don't know why I am wearing out my fingers........

Yeah, lets honour the poor and dress in rags...

Wouldnt that be a tad patronising?
"Look at me, I am so aware that I am richer than you that I dress myself and my kids in cheap clothes today." Would that really be any better?

Maybe she assumes people dont give a toss what Boden is?

I have to stick my neck out here and say that I agree with the OP.

I go to a mother and toddler group in the city. It's run by a charity. There are several mothers who take clean children along. I toy with telling them that it is unfair to mothers who can't afford soap. I may pop a note in their bags.

cheekysealion · 01/11/2008 18:30

glad you are coping well- lucky you

The homestart groups in my area you can only attend if you have been reffered to homestart.. and you are in need of extra support...you cant just turn up

I appreciate all areas are different though

2shoespunk · 01/11/2008 18:31

YABU
dd was dressed in good labels as a baby and tot.....all hand me downs

DippyDora · 01/11/2008 18:31

I had the same thoughts QS. Should I tell dd we are dressing 'for the poor people' today

DippyDora · 01/11/2008 18:33

they dont have to be handmedowns just because it is a surestart group

twinsetandpearls · 01/11/2008 18:33

What an outrageous thing to say, I was helped out by homestart even though I was very secure financially but still really needed their help.

misdee · 01/11/2008 18:33

my kids are nearly always in next/boden.gap etc. but then 80% of their clothing is second hand off ebay, car boot sales, charity shops, nct sales etc. if they are bought new then i buy them in the sales. dd's boden duffles are all second hand/hand me downs/sale ones.

expatinscotland · 01/11/2008 18:33

how on Earth would anyone know what brand of clothing someone is wearing?

i'm very perplexed.

MarmadukeScarlet · 01/11/2008 18:35

Surely if they were such deprived families their aspirations would be more Burburry than Boden?

DippyDora · 01/11/2008 18:36

they could be brand fucking spanking new clothes you know
