A friend of mine leaves her 3 year old DS to watch T.V by himself in the morning until she can be bothered to get up. He can watch T.V for up to 3 hours before gets her lazy bum out of bed.

my ds could work a video at that age, godsend.

and he never stuck food in the hole either.

Saturn74 · 25/10/2008 16:32

sounds like bliss.
next step - train him to make breakfast for everyone.

Snaf · 25/10/2008 16:33

Can he make a bacon sandwich too?

nooOOOoonki · 25/10/2008 16:33

I find it really sad that kids watch tv everyday in the morning .

3 hours is sad - lazy buggers.

tiredemma · 25/10/2008 16:34

Im so glad my children can entertain themselves now in the morning.

SuckyMuckyCock · 25/10/2008 16:34

well if you leave finger food on the table before you go to bed then you can have 4 hours in bed

Bride1 · 25/10/2008 16:36

My son used to watch TV for an hour or so before I came down from about the same age. He still likes to do so now for 20 minutes or so before I get up at 6.45am (he's 11).

He's bright, sporty and a keen reader. Doesn't seem to have done him any harm.

NannyNanny · 25/10/2008 16:37

He's been doing this since he was two. An hour or so is different to 3.

Is this every morning?
I have been known to have a lie in whilst DS's go and watch TV.
They get up at 6.30 every day without fail, sometimes I cannot face it on a weekend and leave them to until 8.
They are 5 and 8 yrs old.
And tehy sometimes do themselves a bowl of cereal. Fantasctic!!

wannaBe · 25/10/2008 16:49

I think it depends.

Three hours is a lot first thing in the morning, but I guess it depends on whether the child gets up at 4 and iwatches tv until 7 or whether he gets up at 7 and watches until 10 before his mother gets up. If the latter then I do think it's bad.

Personally I don't allow television until at least lunchtime, but I realize that I am totally in the minority on this.

NannyNanny · 25/10/2008 16:50

He is generally sitting in a bowl of coco pops. Which is smeared just about everywhere while he scratches his eczema until he is bleeding.

I don't have children but I work as an au-pair and the parents or myself would never leave the children to get up by themselves.
They do play together upstairs whilst I am downstairs, but I will check on them. I can also hear them, which is something I can't do if I am asleep.

He wakes up between 7 and 7.30.

This boy always sleeps through the night, from 7 in the evening till 7 in the morning.

it has been known for dh to set up ds with a dvd and his drawing things and leave for work leaving me curled up in bed with a sleeping dd. its rarely more than an hour before we surface. ds is 4 and can get himself a drink of milk and his weetabix if he wishes. and he can also come and jump on the bed till we shift our lazy butts.

How do you know he is sitting in a bowl of coco pops and scratching his excema until it bleeds? Are you there at the same time?

NannyNanny · 25/10/2008 16:57

I went to pick him up one morning to take him out. I had to phone the mum to wake her up. Went into the boys room and he is sitting naked in a bowl of coco pops.
