A friend of mine leaves her 3 year old DS to watch T.V by himself in the morning until she can be bothered to get up. He can watch T.V for up to 3 hours before gets her lazy bum out of bed.

How do you know all this Information NannyNanny

pingping · 27/10/2008 16:36

See what she needs to do is put the TV in the bedroom and show him how to use the remote stick on a stair gate and he will be fine.

I think YABU you are not there everyday unless your seeing with your own eyes then you shouldnt judge.

I wish I had a friend like you if you are that concerned maybe you should offer some help.

QueenFee - how old was he when you started doing it? Do you stay awake or go back to sleep?

QueenFee · 27/10/2008 20:56

I can't remember really NA it just eveolved in an effort to save my families sanity. (DH and I nearly split over lack of sleep) We usually just sort of doze. When he was younger we used to sleep on the sofa next to him but now he's bigger louder and more vocal I don't feel the need to be so close. My house is completely toddler proof anyway.

I would be worried about ds tipping his pushchair up and trying to stand up in it I think else I would try it. He is 2 aswell.

When is your DS 3?

QueenFee · 27/10/2008 22:37

He was 2 in August. He can climb out of the buggy straps if he needs to and just comes upstairs to us. He has done this without the pushchair falling over .My pram is a big sturdy one. But more recently he is quite happy to wait for his big sis or one of us to come down and let him out. Like I say this system just sort of evolved. I am not saying this is right for anyone else just that it works for our family
He is a very active little boy during the day and we make up for this time in front of the video is countered by what we do in the day.

nappyaddict · 27/10/2008 22:55

I'd also be worried of him turning the oven on I think.

Boobalina · 28/10/2008 10:11

I think it is irresponsible particularly as the three year old is eating food - what if he choked whilst parents were asleep upstairs? Its not like you can shout out when choking?!

Yes we all need lie-ins but take turns on the weekend with OH whilst one of you stays with the kids.

3 is far too little to be unsupervised at any time of the day for up to three hours?!

If he was at nursery and then the careers said ' oh we left him to be on his own in a room for three hours' they would be closed down?

Jsut because poster is not a mother, it doesnt mean she cant have concerns for another human being. Just because you have given birth, it doesnt automatically make you a good mother!
