A friend of mine leaves her 3 year old DS to watch T.V by himself in the morning until she can be bothered to get up. He can watch T.V for up to 3 hours before gets her lazy bum out of bed.

No I don't have kids {runs for cover as everyone jumps onto the barren lady - how dare she criticise when she doesn't have children etc].

I do live with four of them however

OP posts:
needmorecoffee · 25/10/2008 17:23

as a nanny?

needsomeonetotalkto · 25/10/2008 17:23

Right no kids. That is kinda like, reading about brain sugery and thinking - yes I get it and then trying to do it and finding out actually its very different in reality. So OP you are an 'in theory parent'? I think enough said, come back and let us know how you get on when you have a three year old.

NannyNanny · 25/10/2008 17:24

au-pair, live in nanny, mother's help. I don't know what I am

OP posts:
nooOOOoonki · 25/10/2008 17:26

and how gets up at night and who gets up in the morning ?

needmorecoffee · 25/10/2008 17:26

well, I think YABU. Parents are on duty 24 hours a day for blardy years. A nanny gets time off and holidays and is being paid.
Nothing wrong with having a lie in if the child is safe. I couldn't wait till number 3 reached 3 and could go downstairs and poour cereal everywhere and watch TV so I could get a lie in.
And I miss it cos number 4 can never do that so no lie in for the rest of my life!

I didn't claim to be a parent. I was just pointing out that I do not come from planet mars when it comes to children.

I have a baby monitor in my room and so does the mother. The dad is mostly away on business. We both get up.

you've got a lot of 'friends' of late that are 'rubbish parents' nannynanny.
how about going and earning a living/ getting a life instead of trolling around the boards or trying to get everyone het up.

feelingbitbetter · 25/10/2008 17:31

Today, we slept in till 8.45! AND, that nade us 45 mins late for DSs very strict (precribed) feeding regime (NEVER happened before). He was in bed with us, asleep, it was lovely! Nothing was stopping me from getting up at all, so go on, shoot me!
I still have to feed DS like a newborn, I have to medicate him. I get up at least twice in the night with him, every night without fail.
I can only hope that one day he will be able to entertain himself (it seems lately that he might be able to see the TV) and be capable of any kind of independent life.
I wish he could spend 3 hours a day watching TV, but with his appointments, meds, therapies, etc. we can't and we probably never will.
What I'm trying to say is, we all have very different things to deal with, and, believe it or not, we don't all run them by you first.
When you've walked a mile in my shoes, please feel free to judge me (I won't listen but will respect you are entitled to your opinion )

twinsetandpearls · 25/10/2008 17:35

Is it a very larg bowl?

feelingbitbetter · 25/10/2008 17:36

You'd hope so twinset then mum could save making her own breakfast and nick it off LO!

nooOOOoonki · 25/10/2008 17:37

but I am still agreeing that 3 hours a day is too much telly for a child.

the bleeding would contaminate the milk - i'd make my own cocopops...

nooOOOoonki · 25/10/2008 17:40

but feeling better that surely is different from a child with no sn who sleeps 12 hours.

au-pair, live in nanny, mother's help. I don't know what I am

There is quite a hefty difference between these roles. Surely you know what you are?

twinsetandpearls · 25/10/2008 17:45

I think the coco pops business is awful. Now if the child was sat in organic goats milk and some lovely dorset cereal that would be a different matter.

Tryharder · 25/10/2008 17:47

YANBU OP.

If your friend's son gets up at 7 and watches tv by himself for 3 hours then she's getting up at 10 which is late...I mean, come on everyone.

If you want an easy life with lots of lie-ins, then don't bother having kids. Your friend sounds like a selfish person and 3 is too young to be left like this.

Romy7 · 25/10/2008 17:47

porridge could scald.

cupcakesinthesnow · 25/10/2008 17:50

Twinset - Dorset cereals a bit scratchy and crunchy I find and far too expensive to waste on a 3 year old ;)
